Texas Tech Adds #14 Commitment: Donnie Carona

Hey, hey, hey! According to the Rivals Commitment List, kicker Donnie Carona, has committed to our Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The most impressive think about Donnie is that he's an athlete (runs a 4.6/40), but he was selected as a first team running back for TAPPS first-team Division I all-state for Kelly High School (you can see the pictures here - ignore the fumble), can punt and kick the hell out of the ball (see the video here). You can see some of Donnie's stats from 2004 to 2006 here.

You know what's coming next . . . Donnie, welcome to Texas Tech, and Git Your Guns Up!

[editor's note, by Seth C] I just got done watching Donnie's video and you need to watch the whole thing. This kid is booming kicks from what would be his team's own 40 yard line with 15 yards to spare. I know, I shouldn't get so excited about a kicker, but it's impressive.

We also got a commit from OL Joe King today.  That's 4 of the Top 25 players out of Oklahoma...more than OU (3) or Okie Lite (2).

He's pretty good
kickoffs were incredible. Had some problems kicking from the right hash but he's listed as having a 55 yard range. Here's hoping, if he starts next year, he'll be solid enough for us as a freshman, but he's got a lot of potential for the future.

If you need a curb for your enthusiasm Seth, watching him kick, he reminds me a bit of Keith Toogood. One hell of a leg, can't aim a field goal to save his life.

Awesome
An average kick-off of 73.5 yards.  That seems amazing for high school.

I really like this kid
and I am glad that the staff gave this kid a scholarship.  I think he will mainly be the kickoff guy next year, while practicing his XP's and FG's.  I really think that Cory Fowler, a walk-on senior, will earn the duties of FG's and XP's next year.  Either way, this kid has a bright future and he is a great athlete too.  I would love to see a fake FG like the one LSU ran this year where the holder flips it to the kicker.  This guy is like a fast fullback!!
