Texas Tech Friday Morning Notes - Across the Board Edition

Double-T Nation News:

If you're going to the game, bring a rain jacket, the latest weather report says that there's a 40% chance of rain on Saturday. Can someone please do something about this?

Texas Tech Football:

LAJ's Don Williams writes that the defensive line is playing a key role in Texas Tech's success. Here's defensive line coach Charlie Sadler on his group:

"We’re experienced and solid across the board, and we’ve got some depth that we haven’t had," said Sadler, who is in his sixth season at Tech. "It’s certainly the best overall defensive line that we’ve had since I’ve been here."

The LAJ guys, Zach Long, Don Williams and Adam Zuvanich, also have video previews of the Nebraska game and video reviews of last week in the Big 12 and the Kansas State game.

DT's Alex Ybarra writes that Nebraska's head coach, Bo Pelini, is still searching for answers from his team:

"I think we're still trying to find out some about our personnel and what is best for this group as far as giving our guys the best opportunity to have success," he said during his weekly press conference Tuesday. "Some of that is personnel oriented, some of that is philosophical. You can't always try to pound a square peg into a round hole. You've got to evaluate, look at your personnel and what they do best and put them in positions to have success. You have to adjust as you go along. That's offensively, defensively and special teams."

Defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill says the defense is getting prepared by looking at the high number of personnel groups Nebraska runs:

"You have to be able to get lined up against a lot of stuff," McNeill said. "You gotta be able to get into 10 different personnel groups. We gave (the defense) a majority of looks on Tuesday; we (gave) those same looks Wednesday, and added the two groups we didn't see Tuesday, and Thursday we (did) all of them."

Nebraska StatePaper's Samuel McKewon takes a look at the 5 keys to beating Texas Tech, and I thought this was an excellent summary of last week's loss to Missouri:

Last week, the Huskers threw themselves into the deep end. The stage was too bright, the defensive plan was too cute, and Missouri was too good. Worst of all, Nebraska played nearly 60 minutes of chippy, grabby football. Forget the Raiders; NU's performance was parody, achieving the grace of a mobster in one of those sweatsuits they like to wear.

And if it hadn't been for Husker Enemy No. 1, Mizzou quarterback Chase Daniel, well, who knows what "long on tough, short on smart" mentality the Huskers might have dragged to Lubbock.

But Daniel's "Spitgate" accusation was the perfect alarm bell. Who's right in this "he said, he said" contretemps? Doesn’t matter. What matters is that Nebraska's zeal to proverbially punch Daniel in the facemask was a key underpinning of the plan Pelini now says he regrets. NU clearly got in Daniel's head; it simply made no impact on his play. Daniel had his victory cake and got to whine about its taste, too. Nebraska couldn't have lost that psychological war by a larger margin.

[Note by Seth C, 10/10/08 8:16 AM CDT ] Update:  Rajon Henley will not play Saturday, per LAJ's Don Williams.

Texas Tech Hockey:

The Texas Tech Hockey Club and the Lubbock City Council have agreed to renegotiate a contract after the City Council rejected the Hockey Club's proposed contract:

"The previous contract that is expired and the one they tried to present today both provide for the hockey club to pay on the day - the full fare - on days of their meets," he said. "But the rest of their time, for all intents and purposes, it just says they can just use the coliseum for five months with no payment at all for recreational skating, skating lessons and so forth."

Sounds like both sides are starting to dig-in on this deal and then no one wins.

the city should be ponying up to provide recreational skating, not the damn tech hockey club. What a bunch of jerks.

It will not rain.
