Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Texas Tech Saturday Morning Notes - Nebraska Game Day Edition

Double-T Nation News:

I've only got about 30 minutes before I have to head out the door so I'm going to make this pretty short and sweet. I've linked to as much as I can. The game day thread will go up around noon, I think.

Again, I'll be the only son of a gun in a DTN t-shit, if you see me, say hello and give me a beer.

Texas Tech Football:

  • LAJ's Don Williams, former Texas Tech quarterbacks bound together like brothers:
"It’s kind of a tight-knit … almost like a brotherhood," Cumbie said. "As former teammates, we call each other up and talk all the time - about the practices we had, the funny stories we’ve heard from coach Leach, the funny things he’s saying and doing now. It’s a bond, playing for coach Leach and the quarterback position, that we’ve all formed."
  • LAJ's Don Williams, Texas Tech preparing for Nebraska of years' past:
"This could be the week they put it all together. We’re preparing for that," McBath said this week. "We know they’re a great team. They’re trying to find their self. This could be the week that they put it together, so we’re (preparing) like they’re 5-0."
  • FWST's Dwain Price on receiver Lyle Leong (good stuff):
Texas Tech wide receiver Lyle Leong was in so much trouble with coach Mike Leach that he wasn’t allowed to suit up for a game against SMU last month.

    Snip

"I’m trying to make up for what I did and the experience is showing me that I have good character and can come back and help the team," Leong said. "I tried to take it as a learning experience and not try to get down on myself.

"I’m glad I was able to come back and help the team out. I want to continue to prove myself and get better."

  • Texas Tech blogger RaiderAde looks back at his preview of Nebraska from the summer and looks towards today's game:
Okay, the Red Raiders play their first conference home game tomorrow against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. If you click the link above, you'll be pleasantly reminded of the 70-10 rout from 2004, when Tech rode a wave of 49 points in a period of 12:02 spanning the third and fourth quarters.

It is clear to me that this year's Nebraska team is at least as bad as their 2004 squad, and it is also highly possible that this year's Texas Tech team is much better than they were in 2004.

  • DMN's Kate Hairopoulos, just generally on Texas Tech and today's game:
It's been a rough week for Nebraska and first-year coach Bo Pelini since Missouri creamed the Huskers, 52-17, in Lincoln last Saturday.

Now for the really bad news, Nebraska fans.

Not only is NU taking to the road for the first time this season today, they're at No. 7 Texas Tech. Lubbock just happens to be home to the nation's top passing offense, which is just hitting its groove, Red Raiders players say. It's also site of a 70-10 Huskers loss – the worst defeat in school history – in 2004, their last visit to Tech.
