Post Game Quotes: Nebraska vs. Texas Tech

Captain Leach on Saturday's game:
"It really was wild and hard fought, and the rest. It was one of the strangest games I had been a part of, and I think that Nebraska would say the same too. I can't say enough about their offensive line and their offense did a great job. I think the coaching job they did was impressive. I was proud of our guys hanging in there, we had a little bit of adversity but we overcame it. I am really proud of them for that. I think sometimes we went out and tried to make too much happen, defensively we tried to make too much happen we tried to play perfect and we just need to make routine plays. We need to solve something's on special teams but I am impressed with this group. But almost always in games like this you have to be the last guy swinging and we were and I am proud of our players."
Captain Leach on the 4th and 4 conversion:
"Well, we were hoping he was offsides, I was thinking he was. There were a lot of things that didn't turn our way this game but in the end it did. When you are down quite a bit and things aren't going your direction you got to stick in there and our guys did that."
Captain Leach on time of possession:
"Well, surprising, the whole thing was strange. Some stats guy could really have a hay day with it. Who cares about time of possession, I thought we could have done better on third down offense and stopping them. And we let them have the ball too long and they did a good job controlling the clock. I think that we will learn from it and respond to it. I think there were some key times, and even with that we held them to 10 points for a real long time. And offensively we responded a few times which was key, and special teams we did some things which were key and even with the mishaps we found a way to win and our group deserves a lot of credit for that."
RB Baron Batch on a frustrating game:
"It can definiately get a little nerve wracking and they are definitely playing keep-away and they got a stop when they needed to and we won. And I'm just real happy about that the fact that we got win."
QB Graham Harrell on the 4th and 4 conversion and Mr. Crabtree being open:
"We got to work, we got to make it happen and we did and the thing about coach is he has a lot of confidence in his guys. He said just make it work and we did.""I'm surprised with how open he was and if he was just a little guy I would go to him. You know, Crabtree is our go- to guy. I knew he was open and he was; I threw it up there and he made a play.
LB Brian Duncan on lessons learned today:
"Absolutely, it teaches us that we can't give up on a team and anyone can come in this house and we can go anywhere and get beat. We have to go out there and respect each team."
Duncan on where the team goes from here:
"We are excited, Coach Leach is a great guy, Ruffin (McNeill) has a great scheme. We are going to improve as weeks go by and we are excited, we had some fun today."

The Tech Offense
played well; not perfect, but good enough to gain the win. The defense seemed to be out of position all day. That could be to Nebraska’s credit, but ultimately, the defense has to adjust and play much tougher on 1st & 2nd downs to prevent ball movement by the other team. 40 minutes is a long time on the field, and this is very remindful of what happened in the first few games last year. I thought the defense was making good progress, but this game really exposed them as not yet being ready to stop anyone at any time. I still have hopes, but they may be slightly dimmer now. We have really got to improve this week and continue improving with the brutal schedule ahead. Keep the faith…..

quote from espnu.com
does anyone agree with this post on espn about the big 12 rankings?
5. Texas Tech — Upset against Nebraska was averted by the kind of late defensive stop Ruffin McNeill has been preaching about

Well,
It worked. Problem is, I’m not a big fan of preaching, “let them run through you all game, but step up at the very end.” Kind of a flawed system to these eyes…but I’m not a coach. I am pretty sure the players and coaches would rather the defense step up ALL GAME long. Why they can’t do that I don’t know, but they’re playing with a very hot poker right now. We’ll get burned if we don’t tighten it up.

espn is funny
my favorite quote so far is the “it was over when”
It was over when… Jamar Wall intercepted Joe Ganz on the second play of Nebraska’s overtime drive.
Gameball goes to… Michael Crabtree, who caught five passes for 89 yards and two TDs, becoming the Red Raiders’ all-time leader in TD receptions in the process.
Stat of the game… 32. Graham Harrell and Crabtree have connected for 32 TDs, setting a Big 12 record by a QB-WR tandem.
i just want to put up a big duh…it was the last play of the game…

Tech fan first.
then a big 12 fan…i like this quote too.
Last week, the Big 12 had the No. 1 team in the country, four teams in the top seven and six in the top 17.
But after the Saturday stunners, the Big 12 still has the No. 1 team (although different), four teams in the top eight and six among the top 15.
If you not having fun....then your not playing the game right.

Change is hard
I know that we all have very high expectations but I believe this is new territory for the fans and the Team/Coaches. As hard as it is to swallow I think that in years past based just on play we very well could have been 1-1 or 0-2. These last 2 games are exactly where we have fallen apart in the past. I also don’t like just playing Base defense but it seems to me that Leach/Ruffin have deceided that I we can just out talent our opponent then we stay in Base. I think that’s what we will see this week and I hope the Kansas game will finally push Ruffin to be more aggressive. It also seems again we are hiding our special defenses. Remember this is our first win in OT @ the Jones. We lost a very similar game several years ago to Kansas. That’s why I say stay the course all is not lost yet. we just need to take one week at a time. Win the next 2 and let Texas come to town and let it all go then. 6 and 0 is still our record. Wreck’em Beat the Ags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
