Post Game Thread: Texas Tech 43, Texas A&M 25

What a tale of two halves.

The offense looks fine, I'm not worried about it in the least, but the defense played one hell of a second half.  Again, I'm sure there's some fault that can be on the Aggie offense, but that wasn't bad.

Kicking game teh sux.

Feel free to leave any and all post-game comments here.  I'll have grades up tomorrow.  I'm probably out for the rest of the afternoon.

That's cool

email me so I know how to do that.

So angry about our special teams. Mike Leach is about as close to the perfect CFB coach as I’d want, yet I can’t understand why he can’t shift to the 2PC attempt permanently, especially after two booted XPs including one returned. That’s a 4 point swing. We’re much better off going for 2 every time.

Go register. Or else.

Thread

First time i’ve participated in the thread and i joined late… definitely going to be doing this every away game, really enjoyed it. Though, not enough to not go to the actual home games :-P and don’t think anyone can hold it against me :)

Worst part of this game:

special teams… i want to go kick for them… i hate this, it ruined every swing of momentum from touchdowns… absolutely frustrating!!!

Starting to think that, too...

But still, whomever is at fault, I don’t think the right remedy is to continue kicking XPs. If we can’t make them with Corona, can’t make them with Fowler, we can’t make them. We need to start going for two after every touchdown.

Go register. Or else.

I’m not sure what else to say about the kicking game, but the problems clearly go deeper than Carona. Which is good for his psyche, bad for the team.

The defense. What a fantastic second half. But why wait? Why wait to bow up and play like that? Sure, the Aggies contributed a bit to their own issues with drops, but they played great.

The offense is fine when it has the ball. Harrell, though, is prone to a bone headed play still. At least they aren’t returned for TDs like the last two seasons. Crabtree continues to show me he’s literally The Man. The offense should go through him at all times. Batch is a machine and I’m thrilled with the way he just simply tries. Hard.

Special Teams

My problem with them isn’t solely on the kickers, while yes it would help maybe 50-60% of our problems if the kickers would just kick it higher and not as low, however, the special teams as a whole look rough! We’ve seen the pictures of the line falling apart… we’ve seen the other team run it back to the 40 or worse. it’s not all on the kickers… we need better special team coaches… bring this team to the level we need it to be!

Big XII games

How do you figure the best turn out for us will be this weekend as far as the results of the other teams?

My thought initially was that we want OU and UT to win so that when we play them.. they are as big a deal as possible…

now, my thought is that we want UT to beat Mizzou and KU to beat OU… because that would put OU and MIzzou at 2 losses…

if we can pull out the season with only a loss to OU… (crossing fingers) that would put us at #1 in Big XII would it not??? losing to OU in norman if they’re a 2 loss… would be hard on us on the national scene… but puting us #1 in Big XII will give us a definate BCS bowl game…

if everyone stays like they are and wins but we lose to OU… it would be OU #1 to probably Mizzou in big XII game… winner going to the champ game and the other to another bcs… we’d be pushed back…

how do you figure?

Go for two every time. Continuing with the 50% success rate after two attempts, that’s more points than we’re getting now. Just go for it. Every. Single. Time.

I’m going to optimistically credit the defense’s second half to them finally waking up in a morning game. Maybe they were sleepy and finally got woken up at halftime, but they can’t do that next week against Kansas.

23:09 to 6:51 time of possession in the second half, in Tech’s favor. That’s domination.

After all is said and done, more is said than done.

Yeah, if there ever was a prototypical game of two different halves, this was it. We held them to 32 yards in the second half. That’s huge. If the defense had that intensity the entire season, I think we’d have much more respect. The fact that it came against A&M won’t win too many converts, though.

"AGGIES WIN....

the first half. then Tech’s defense wakes up and Tech wins game handily."

That is what a&m’s newspaper headline will read tomorrow.

I LOVE the Roll Call.

Hmmmm

First, great win. Second half domination, for sure.

But I’m still queasy thinking about the next four games. We’re missing “it” this year on offense. We haven’t really exploded against anyone, though the final’s look like it.

Remember how a few people were saying that the I-AA teams we played at the beginning of the year were the best of I-AA? Well, E. Wash is 3-4 and UMass is 4-3. UMass lost to Richmond today. What’s that mean? Not much, really. But it does tell me that maybe we are in for a nasty run here in the next month.

Honestly, if we can come out of it 2-2, that may have to be considered a win. Watching Texas totally dismantle Mizzou and OU thump Kansas, I worry.

Just take it one game at a time, cut out all turnovers, continue to tighten up the defense as we did in the second half of this game(even just a little bit), go for all 2 point conversions, and hope the ball bounces our way more times than not. All teams have shown some weaknesses (except maybe ut), so all we can do is bring our A game when we play them. If we can do this, our special season can stay intact.

I was at a friend’s and then later at the UT game, so I didn’t get to take part. Doubt I do much gameday posting the rest of the season: Hosting family for Kansas, Hosting hopefully a large party for UT, Hosting best friend for OSU or at game, Will probably be around for OU, At home.

ah well, i’ll just keep up the posting during the weekdays.
