BlogPoll Ballot Week 9
Draft of BlogPolll after the jump. Everything after #11 is an absolute guess, but I feel pretty good about it. I dropped Texas Tech one more spot, simply because the TAMU game could have been really close without a holding penalty and if Johnson could hit a wide open receiver.
Also, I realize I left off Missouri, but I don't want to have to redo the table. I think they need to be in the poll, probably in the 16 to 18 range. They'll be added in the final submission.
Comments, questions and criticisms are wlecome.

| Rank | Team | Delta |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Texas - Undisputed at this point and it doesn't get any easier with OSU next. | 1 |
| 2 | Alabama - could have had a more impressive game, and now UT's 2 impressive wins are better than Alabama's 1 win over Georgia. | 1 |
| 3 | Penn State - just rolling. | -- |
| 4 | Florida - looked much better, and was tempted to flip-flop the Gators and USC, but saw no reason to change after USC's win over WSU. | -- |
| 5 | Southern Cal - looked impressive very beating the worst team in the Pac-10. | -- |
| 6 | Oklahoma State - they are just rolling right now, but have to go to Austin. | 1 |
| 7 | Oklahoma - aren't the Sooners supposed to have a good defense? | 1 |
| 8 | Ohio State - huge weekend for the Buckeyes, but they get the Lions at home. | 2 |
| 9 | Georgia Beat a ranked opponent, but is Stafford struggling too much for the Bulldogs? | 3 |
| 10 | Texas Tech - the game could have been much closer than the score indicated. | 1 |
| 11 | Utah - Demolished Colorado State. I thought this was going to be a little bit closer. | 1 |
| 12 | Boise State - Handled Hawaii very easily. | 1 |
| 13 | LSU - Came off an awful loss to Florida and squeaked by S. Carolina, there's no reason to move them up, right? | 2 |
| 14 | TCU - Besides Texas, this may have been the 2nd most impressive win of the week. | 10 |
| 15 | Pittsburgh - I can't believe the Wannstache is winning. | 11 |
| 16 | South Florida - Ripped Syracuse. Nothing to see here. | 10 |
| 17 | Georgia Tech Beat Clemson at home and just like the others, they keep winning, albeit not convincingly. Who else deserves this spot? | 3 |
| 18 | Minnesota - Nice win, at Illinois. Defense came to play against Illini. | 8 |
| 19 | Boston College - Only loss is Georgia Tech, but have wins over an improving NC State and Virginia Tech. | 7 |
| 20 | Northwestern - Why the hell not? Crushed Purdue, and the only loss is at Michigan State. Should the Cats trade with the Spartans? | 6 |
| 21 | Kansas - How far to drop a team (and I didn't at all) for giving up 674 yards to the Sooners. | -- |
| 22 | Brigham Young - Initially I had them out of the poll completely. Should the Cougars even be this high? | 11 |
| 23 | Florida State - Only loss thus far was to Wake Forest, but have beaten Colorado, at Miami and at NC State. | 3 |
| 24 | Tulsa - winning against nobody. | 2 |
| 25 | Ball State - see #24. | 1 |

Next week might define the outcome of Tech's season
I will take a 7-0 start (historic in some respect) inspite of some of the criticism (including some by me) that this team has received. The main thing is we have survived the first half of the schedule before the real big XII begins. However, this makes the Kansas game a very crucial one for Tech. A Tech win at Lawrence next week could give us enough momentum to cruise past Texas the week after and in a way set the tone for Tech’s championship run. On the contrary, it might be a little bit more difficult to regroup from a loss given the kind of schedule that we have following the Kansas game. So, it will be necessary to step up our defense, kicking game, special teams and the offense for the game next week. This will be like our first championship game in a lot of ways and as coach Leach says, we will have to rise on all three sides of the ball for this one.
However, I have faith in this team and in coach Leach.
I think we will take care of business at Kansas.

I like your optimism and faith in the team. Support is critical to this team’s success from here on out.
That said, I think this starts a month where 2-2 is probably the best we can do. Not trying to be negative at all, and it’s more a reflection on how I see the other teams v. how I see Tech. I think we’ll, sadly, finish the next four at 1-3. They’ll play tough, but the kicking game and a lack of offensive consistency due to increased defensive athleticism will come up.
I think the defense will rally and play decently, with the secondary hanging on by a thread. But I also think we’ll have a tough time operating efficiently on offense for long stretches. The big difference being that I don’t see Tech hitting one of those spurts where they rattle off 21 quick point to pull away like we’re used to seeing. Tech is improving, but the other guys are too.
My way too early feeling is the Kansas game will be pretty low scoring by Big XII standards. I like Kansas in a game like that. It’ll be a close one, but KU, for some reason, will probably eke this one out.
TTU 27
Kansas 31
After that, I see Texas coming to town loaded for bear and Tech dressed in fur. I also see Tech being pretty competitive but Colt and the boys roll it up at the end.
Texas 49
TTU 30
Okie State will somehow fall back to earth and we’ll take this one. They, like Tech, have a way of laying an egg on occassion. This game will be it.
OSU 20
TTU 40
OU will desperately trying to get into the Big XII championship in this game and will play tight. But it’s in Norman and I see Tech giving up a late TD to lose a very close game.
TTU 41
OU 44
I hope none of this plays out like that and we roll through 4-0. But I’m afraid we’re lacking too many things, i.e. a kicking game and good LBs and defensive backs.
I, like a woman, reserve the right to change my mind without warning : )

i just have a comment/question...
Why does Tech get treated differently than Penn St this week in the realm of public opinion. Both of us were losing to sub-par teams at half time and both of us calmly took control with second half shutouts to cruise for easy victories. How come everyone (espn “analysts”, etc.) is saying negative things about how Tech won, but you don’t hear the same type of worries about Penn St? Just wondering if anyone else noticed the disparities.

that's a perfectly valid point
and I think part of it is that I’m too close to this situation and I see the flaws because I watch the game at least twice. With team X, typically all I see is the final score. With Penn St., I saw quite a bit of the 2nd half and thought they looked pretty good.
I know I’m inconsistent, but I’m also trying not to be a homer too.
