black-oUT

'm sure that most of you have heard by now, but a lot of student's, and now companies, are trying to make our game against UT a black-out game.  Much like Georgia's Black-Out, and Penn State's White-Out:Georgia-blackout-football-stadium_medium

I don't know about you guys, but i think Blacking out the Jones would look amazing, and be a kind of motivation booster for our team.  Here at Tech have tried to do Red-Outs and Black-Outs in the past, but it has never worked.  Although, i think this year, we have an exceptionally good chance of making this actually happen.  There is a facebook group for this, of course, which has been spreading the word.  But that's never really enough.  Last year we tried a Red-Out for a game, and not everyone knew about it, and then wore Black, Green, and Pink to the game.  Don't ask me why people wear green and pink to our football games, but they do.  I woke up this morning and went to the Student Union Building to pick up a paper.  There was an ad in the paper for Red Raider Outfitter's new shirt for the UT game, and it was a Black-Out shirt.  This is excellent, the word is getting around and people may actually come to the game in Black only Tech gear.  There couldn't have been a better advertisment for the game than an ad in the paper.  So please everyone, spread the word, and let's try to make the UT game a true "Black-out":

Weather?

I think one of the problems with doing this for the UT game is that it will be a Saturday night in November, so folks will mostly be wearing coats/jackets. Not everyone has appropriate coats and jackets that are black. T-Shirts work best but the weather needs to be warmer than it likely will be for the game.

It’s going to be a night game, so I think the stadium will look empty if it’s a black-out. White-outs don’t feel very intimidating, in my opinion, so I’d favor another red-out. The problem there, though, is that it’s been done so much before.

As long as it’s loud, I don’t think shirt color really matters, anyway.

After all is said and done, more is said than done.

Black outs look like an empty stadium.

yea...

but it will be a loud empty stadium

If you not having fun....then your not playing the game right.

No doubt, they’ll be loud. But the visual effect when it’s all black looks stupid, especially on TV, in my opinion. I think the White Out at PSU is cool…but it’s their tradition.

These outs are retreads and don’t accomplish anything or intimidate anyone. Sort of a goofy trend that really took off earlier this year for some unknown reason. I say just show up in whatever and scream your throat sore. That would do more : )

The formatting was lost, but I had, “These insert whatever color outs…”

Well i don't really

think it would look empty. If you’ve ever seen the Jones at night empty, it doesn’t look like the seats are black. The lights are always on, which makes it quite bright in the Jones, plus the stadium is made of concrete, which is grey. So, unless it was a grey-out, it wouldn’t look empty. Plus, the stadium will be at least at, but most likely over capacity for the UT game. Which means the stadium will be louder than ever before, also considering this is probably the biggest game to be played at the Jones, ever, there is no way it’s going to look empty. It’s just for fun anyways, to have every student wearing black would show unity and support for our school and team.

I’m sure in person it would look neat. But when Georgia did this black out thing a few weeks back, it looked terrible on TV. The announcers voiced what I said, that on TV it looks like an empty stadium when all black is worn. Has nothing to do with the color of the concrete, it’s the fact that all black happens to blend on TV.

The PSU white out looks very cool, though. White works, black doesn’t. Just my opinion, and you’re right…it’s all for fun. Not that the fans will need an extra excuse to be jacked up for this one : )

Red, I think, may work better…and it is our primary color. Or at least it used to be ; )

In process for a long time

JUST an FYI, this has been in the makings since at least july. that is when i joined the facebook group, which had about 1000 members then, it is now up to about 6400. One thing that drives me crazy about lubbock is that even in a year where tech is preseason top15, there isn’t over capacity at everygame, I know UT will be the largest crowd ever at the jones… the 2006 game holds the record and this is a hell alot more important than that one. 57000 maybe?? As far as I am concerned, pull an ND and put the band on the field and let 2000 more people in.
