WOW!
I was expecting Tech to win in a similar fashion to last week. This was even better. McNeil made some changes in-stride during the 2nd quarter, and the defense gave the ball back to the offense 3 times. Rout was on. I can’t wait to hear what those Tech exes at work who picked Tech to fold are going to say on Monday. I have said it before: This is easily the BEST team Tech has produced, ever. And I really liked the Allison group in the mid seventies. WE ARE READY FOR TEXAS! BELIEVE!

Nearly Flawless
This game was about as solid a performance by a Tech team – against good competition – that I’ve ever seen. The offense was unstopable, and the defense had teeth. That was great to watch.

My Dad said just about the same thing . . .
“Maybe the best game I’ve seen them play. Ever,” was his exact quote I think.
And he was a freshman at Tech in 1966.

Overrated no longer
Outside of the first quarter our Red Raiders have entered a new era. They have NEVER played that well for an entire game. I think we’ve found our kicker. Also, I’m very surprised to see our team play better on the road than at home this year (exception being Nevada game). Hopefully next weekend will feel like a road game. WOW!
The only real negative is Leach didn’t have his usual entertaining quotes after the game.
Go TECH!

If we play...
4 quarters like that against Texas, we win. NO doubt. But this week I hope Leach continues what he is doing in keeping the players insulated from the hoopla.

That #2 run defense was exposed today. Any doubts about Tech’s ability to put up points against UT should be laid to rest.

I heard May say Harrell’s completion numbers were getting close to McCoy-ish. I’m going to need a TV repairman now. Can we say "obscene yards per play"? We can, May can’t. I think Lou Holtz could make most of the "passes" McCoy’s getting away with in the stat books.
Even though these Cable guys are now just desk jockeys, a big non-traditional up and comer like Tech deserves the research that Texas and company gets. If fans are tuning in to watch Tech (which they are), the ESPN guys need to act on that trend and come up with a better, more accurate report to match.

Finally a little respect

Weakest unbeaten BCS team, huh? Baron Batch and Texas Tech showed they’re the real deal by destroying Kansas.
… Now that’s the Texas Tech everyone has been waiting for. The offense was flawless against Kansas, Graham Harrell was nearly perfect, the defense swarmed and came up with the big play, and there weren’t many mistakes. After a tight first quarter, Tech held on to the ball for 10:53 in the second quarter and 13:41 in the third. Ball game.

Let's drop
the idea that we get no respect. We are top 10…that’s all anyone needs to know. We sound whiney when we complain about this perceived lack of respect. Just because an analyst doesn’t slobber all over himself to sing our praises does not mean we are being disrespected.

Opps left off the best part
This is the game that’ll serve notice that the Red Raiders belong in the national title hunt with the really, really big games coming up.
Don’t mean to sound whiney just sick of the BS from the NE meida types.

one of the announcers today
said something along the lines of “we will know in three weeks if this Texas Tech is hte best in the country”
and much better to peak now than at the beginning of the year. that’s why i’m fine with our non-conf schedule. If you sweep the Big XII, then your four games at the beginning of the year aren’t even remembered. i mean, we’re not gonna find any teams that can challenge us as much as these next three games. Kansas used that same type of schedule last year. Even avoiding TTU, OU and TU on their schedule didn’t stop them from being talked about for national championship before their game with Mizzou.
Graham. WOW! and by the way, no homo, but of all the Heisman contending quarterbacks in the country, Graham is the pretty boy of the group. Chubby Chase in Mizzou, Blandface Bradford and Half-tard McCoy don’t compare to how good Graham would look on the stage in New York. Not to mention he looks sharper than all the other gunslinging QB’s at Tech the last few years.
can’t wait to see how electric lubbock and Jones ATT is gonna be throughout this week. i might have to carry a difribulator to the stadium to help me off the field after we rush it.
GO TECH!!!

one more Heisman thing
anybody else notice that when UT changes a play at the line, nobody looks at Colt McCoy because he is not the one in charge. the change comes from the sideline, same thing with Okie State. Not sure about Bradford of Daniels, but clearly those other two guys in orange aren’t as mentally capable as Graham. He is the one making changes at the line, even checking to running plays when the defense calls for it. haven’t heard anybody else notice this, but if you pay attention next week, you will. that’s definitely one advantage Graham has over Colt that I’m pretty sure any Heisman voters won’t have any clue of.

Not sure about Kevin’s ascertations, but this I do know. Big 10 football is damn near unwatchable. This PSU v. OSU game is an embarrasement to offense.

Guys...
I jumped in during the open thread and I just wanted to stop in again and say great game to you guys…your team is outstanding, you fans have been great all week, and you’ve got a lot to be excited and proud about going forward…enjoy it and good luck against the longhorns.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

Thanks!
Now we know how you guys felt during your amazing run last season! We’re fired up and I think for the first time in a long time, a lot of us will allow ourselves to REALLY get excited about Tech football. We have something unique this year.
Good luck to you guys the rest of the way…take care of KSU next week and you’ll be fine.

Subtle Fear
It is interesting as a follower of Tech and the way Tech is covered and talked about, that following this game the opinion of Tech has turned from absolute scorn and disrespect, to a not-so-subtle absolute fear. I don’t know how that plays out in the minds of Texas players and fans, but some of the pronouncements seem outright shrill and fearful as they contemplate coming into the Jones this next weekend.
I hope the Tech players continue their insulation from the hoopla, and their understated desire to prove themselves and to not be swayed by poll rankings and other things. I truly believe this Tech team believes they can and should win every game, and they seem to be focused on fundamentals and obedience to the coaches and their leaders (like Harrell). I’ve never seen a Tech team more willing to make in-game changes and wholesale tweaks in order to shore up weaknesses and fix problems.
As someone said earlier in the thread, Tech seems to be peaking at exactly the right time, and the road ahead will not allow them to get the big head or to get lazy.
I have spent the last two weeks trying to get fans (both for Tech and against them) to see some things about this team and about the vastly superior Big 12 south that they might tend to ignore because of the east coast media bias.
I think we stay partially under the radar for one more game. We will go into the game as slight underdogs, but I say the good money is on Tech at home against a defense we can dominate and an offense we can stop.

Well, I don’t think we can “stop” Texas as much as we can out score them. They will bring a level of speed and athlete quality across the board that we haven’t faced since last year’s OU game. This game will be a HUGE test for our boys. So will OSU and OU, for that matter. But the flipside is also true…this will be a HUGE test for Texas. We’re pretty darn good : )
I don’t think we’re under the radar anymore, though. I know a lot of posters on this site have gritched about a perceived lack of respect, but that only stems from the obvious and inarguable fact that of the top teams, we were the one team who played a bunch of nobody’s. Until today. Is Kansas still top 25 after this? Doubt it, but they WERE favored by 1.5 today.
What makes me think this could tilt towards Tech is that funny things happen at the Jones…at night…against top teams.
Speaking of, when is the last time the Number 1 team came to Lubbock? Miami in the 80s? Can’t recall off the top of my head.

I believe..
but I could be wrong that #1 or #2 SMU came to Lubbock in the early 80’s and was losing by 4 or so with 17 seconds left in the game when Tech kicked off. Craig James acted like he fumbled the ball on the kickoff return and then lateraled across the field to Bobby Leach who went 91 yards for a TD as time ran out… SMU wins.
Can’t remember all the details, but I remember the pit in my stomach and just standing there for 30 minutes in disbelief.
That was SMU’s undefeated season and I think they were #1 when we played them.

I remember that. What a heart breaker. I was in high school at the time, or junior high. My mother was beside herself after that game.
I also think Miami came to town in ’87 and just demolished us.
Here’s to hoping for a MUCH different outcome Saturday : )
Over on Burnt Orange Nation, it seems about 70:30 that UT will have no problem with us. Some of them are a bit nervous, but they sound pretty confident. And they should be; they are number one. But I just think a night game in Lubbock is almost like a haunted house. Weird things happen.

My memory is a little different....
And could be wrong. But as I recall, the Pony Express was ranked #2 at the time and was undefeated. We had just tied them up with only seconds remaining on the clock. This was back when there was no overtime, a tie at the end of regulation just remained a tie. But this would have been a great “victory” for us. So we kicked off and things transpired as antiswarm describes above.
I also remember we opened up the season in 1979 against a #1 ranked USC team that had Heisman Trophy candidate Charles White playing for them. I think we were ranked somwhere near the top 20. It was a close game by the score, but we were never really in the game. Charles White went out early with an injury and a back-up running back named Marcus Allen came in and ran for over 100 yards on us. At least that’s the way I remember it….
As for yesterday, that was one of the most complete performances I have seen from a Texas Tech football team. Outstanding… And on the road! I loved seeing those extra points flying high through the uprights! I’m really looking forward to the HUGE game this Saturday!

TT is scary...
…and many of us in the BON are a bit leary of Lubbock. It seems that TT has a penchant for giving Texas a black eye, even during the SWC days en route to the Cotton Bowl. We are a bit tired, beat up, and emotionally drained after dispatching OU, MU and OSU. I think you will find a UT team that is a bit exhausted and flat. We watched the KU game and Graham/Crabtree combo is scary. Our current ranking was totally unexpected this year, so being this high has been a treat. Nobody thought we’d be in this position before our trip to the panhandle. I think TT has an excellent chance in upsetting UT, especially since the mojo in the Jones is so real. I grew up in Midland and saw a few games there. aTm definitely gets spooked there.
I hope we will win, but it will be tough.

The tired players thing probably will have more to do with the outcome than talent in this one. I can imagine if Tech was coming into the game having had to make the same run UT has…I’d be less than optimistic. But the Big XII determines who plays whom and when during conference play, so that’s out of everyone’s hands.
