Could Tech be ranked #1 with a win?

If Tech beats Texas, will they be ranked #1?  I think they should be.  They will have beaten the team that has obviously proven themselves as the team to beat by doing the most this year (Beating OU, OSU, MIZZOU) and will have proven they are worthy of the ranking.  A lot of people are saying Alabama, but I live in SEC country.    Alabama only has one quality win.  The Big Ten is not up to par with the Big 12 and SEC.  What do you guys think?

IF TTU wins…

then no, they would not be put ahead of Bama or PSU. Face it..Bama will go to the title game if they win out. Penn St. would benefit most from a Tech win. Moreso than Tech.

What about down the road?

No way Tech would be denied Title game if we go undefeated.

If we go undefeated, I agree. Anyone running the tables in the Big 12 should go. A one loss Big 12 team will most likely take a back seat to an undefeated Bama and Penn St. and maybe even a one loss USC team if it played out that way. It pays to lose earlier in the season than later.

Agree with JH

If Texas Tech wins, ’Bama or PSU ends up #1 this week with Tech at #3. If Tech wins out (which means beating OSU and OU in addition to UT), plus Mizzou (most likely north winner), then I think it is likely they end up in the #1 or #2 spot.

PSU should win out pretty easily, though strnger things have happened. ’Bama still has to face LSU in Baton Rouge and the winner of the Georgia- Florida game this weekend. I think there is a loss lurking for ’Bama in there somewhere.

If there are 3 undefeated teams, I think it goes to the Big XII and the SEC.

Something interesting

If Texas Tech beats Texas this week Then Tech will be ranked 4th in the nation ahead of OU.

If Tech then beats OSU, Then actually Tech could surge ahead of PSU in the BCS because of the power rankings.

Because Tech will have beaten 2 straight top 10 teams and will have beaten a #1.

PSU only has Ohio State and Wisconsin to really point to. Ohio State is good but not a top 5 team.

Thus I see the BCS giving Tech the #3 spot if they beat OSU.

Now If Tech then goes on and Beat OU, who will still be a top 5 team provided they have not lost, then Tech goes into the Baylor game as #1 because of Power ranking which has more of an effect on the BCS than people realize.

Alabama even if they win out, will not have as high of a power ranking as Tech when its all said and done. The only thing that could derail Tech is severe bias in the AP and Coaches poll to prevent Tech from rising after they beat Texas and OSU. In other words. Tech remains at No. 5 despite winning its games.

That kind of bias happened back when Texas got to go to the Title game to play USC over a better SEC team.

The point here, is that Texas Tech plays 4 top 10 teams down the stretch. and Has played a top 20 and beaten them on the road. Both OSU and Texas have beaten Mizzu who will be a top 10 over the next two weeks bar another loss.

Thus the Big 12 will have had 5 teams in the top 10. The power ranking from that will give Tech a massive boost and it will also change the computer rankings significantly!

Alabama would be after OU No. 2 and may well be No. 2 after Tech beats OSU. It really depends on how much the power ranking boosts Tech in the computer polls. Thus Tech technically could be No. 1 after a OSU win and would lock that no. 1 up with a road victory at OU.

Baylor game is just icing on the cake.

4th for a win?

I understand ‘Bama and PSU being ahead of Tech, but who else? There aren’t any undefeated teams left in the BCS conferences.

That is true but look at the winner of Georgia/Florida. Believe it or not, they could leapfrog TTU even if we beat Texas. Stranger things have happened in the BCS. And don’t forget USC. All of the press adores the Trojans.

I think Tech...

..is third if they beat Texas. And I don’t think Tech has to worry about bias from the coaches poll. We have consistently been higher in the coaches poll than in the other polls

By the way, Tech (as of 3:15 Central) was #1 in the ESPNU Fan Poll

... I'm just sayin'

BCS

You’re probably right about the BCS rankings I was thinking AP and Coaches’ Polls. It will take winning out to make it to #1 or #2 in the BCS.

no no no

no way we are 4th, 3rd at minimum, 2nd if they punish Penn State for being in the big 10… haha but i love that OU jumped us when they beat Kansas by 14 at home, and we didnt jump them when we beat kansas by 42 on the road… oh what it must be to be loved

#3, definitely

i agree with most of you guys. If we beat UT, we’ll be #3, beat OSU, maybe #2, but if we go undefeated and beat UT and Baylor, due to strength of schedule, we will be #1. Penn State doesnt play as many ranked teams as we do, and i could still see Bama losing one, but if not, they will be #2.

oh, i forgot...

i saw the espnu fan poll results before, and Tech received 78,878 first place votes…. Which makes us #1. I only really agree with about the top 4, but whatever, haha. Oh, UT is number 17 i believe.

oh tech hahaha

there is a facebook group that is voting on a victorias secret competition to get the VS pink line at tech. well some of the students figured out a program to auto vote and our totals on that website shot up to 4 million in a couple days… i have a feeling that somebody has us at 1 and UT at 25 and is auto voting
