Congrats from a 'Horn

Hey all, I just wanted to be the man here and come and congratulate you guys on the unbelievable win.  I have to say that I completely underrated you guys and Tech should easily be #1 (but voters love 'Bama so we'll see).

That was one of the best games I've seen in years, personally and I wish you guys the best of luck down the road.  As OSU did a week ago, you guys gained the respect of at least 1 'Horn on the net.

Take care y'all and here's to seeing what happens down the road!

P.S. - My only anger with the win is the lack of class the fans showed.  Please act like you've been there before in the future (b/c now you have been there) and stay classy.

P.P.S - Don't mind my comment on lack of class.  I clearly misjudged the whole bleachers business and that was my bad.  Congrats.

Thank you Sir

And I agree it was one hell of a football game. One that was well play by both teams.

Thanks, but...

What lack of class? Students rushing the field thinking time expired? That’s not a lack of class, that’s enthusiasm. They weren’t berating Texas players or coaches, they were cheering Tech. Some Texas and some Aggie fans misinterpret other fans’ enthusiasm for lack of class. We rarely beat UT…we’ve never beaten a #1 team…it was at home. C’mon, man, cut the kids a little slack on this.

by Tech92 on Nov 1, 2008 11:37 PM CDT reply actions

Sorry, but..

They were ripping the bleachers out of the stands in the 2nd/3rd quarters. They showed them holding bleachers above their heads 2-3 times on TV. Respect your stadium at least.

by HornPossessed on Nov 1, 2008 11:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Again, tell me how that’s a lack of class. Destructive and silly, maybe. Classless? Not even close.

by Tech92 on Nov 1, 2008 11:57 PM CDT up reply actions

It's nearly akin to setting cars on fire after a big win

not during a game. Destruction by fans = lack of class. Again congrats on the win. All I’m saying to you guys is to take it all in stride; no need to blow stuff up.

Take care.

Actually...

I was there in the student section for the game. We don’t break our bleachers on purpose, not even close. The bleachers in the student section are pretty cheap and we spend the entire game standing on top of them, jumping on them, being rough in general.

At tonight’s game Tech scored a touchdown and my friends and I were jumping up and down and next thing we knew we were on our backs because the bleachers gave way from underneath to no real fault of our own. after the bleacher breaks like that the safest thing you CAN do with it is toss it onto the field so no one hurts themselves on it.

Shit happens, it doesn’t make you classless. Thanks for the repsect though.

by Zegarek88 on Nov 2, 2008 1:56 AM CDT up reply actions

I was in the

student section. We were not ripping the bleachers out. They break from time to time from everyone jumping up and down on them. I’ve had one colapse below me before, it’s not very fun. Once they break we’re supposed to pass them down to the field for the ground crew to take them. So therefore if that was the worst part of the “lack of class” you observed, I would day we did pretty well.

by Boarder on Nov 2, 2008 1:05 AM CDT up reply actions

There was no ripping....

In case you didnt pay attention to the students, we jump up and down on the bleachers the entire game, and those specific bleachers BROKE after Daniel Charbonnet’s interception if i recall correctly. Students dont rip up the bleachers, thats just stupid, thats what we sit on and stand on, why would we want them to break??? They just break from the stress of all of the excited fans on top of them

yes, great game to you guys as well. thanks for the memories.

To all you tech fans reading this, please ignore the “class” comments for the next few days. we’re going to get it from all over the place.

Thanks

Thanks for the Congrats…. Colt has had some come from behind wins before but guess what, so has Graham. Colt is a class act and a great christian guy and I really love that about him. What a great game and finally Tech didn’t break our hearts!!!!!!!
Thanks again.

Great game

Even if you’re on the bitter end of it.

This is a great community here, and yes, you probably will hear a bit too much about “class” in the next few days. That’s mostly BS to me, since some of the best folks I know are Tech grads (including the majority of my family).

But, when your fans prematurely rush the field, twice, it’s going to annoy some folks a bit. Primarily next year’s Texas team, but there’s another year before you have to concern yourselves with that.

Great win for y’all. I hope everybody enjoys it.

Again, I don’t think prematurely rushing the field bugs anyone but fans. The players and coaches at UT are smart enough to realize it’s not anything more than college kids being excited – and thinking the game was over and time had run out. It’s only a big deal to you because you lost. It probably bugs you because you had to watch the fans rush the field three times in the same game. I am not feeling much pity on that one. This one was in the making since 1926.

by Tech92 on Nov 2, 2008 12:15 AM CDT up reply actions

Actually, I'm not annoyed

As I’m self aware enough to know that I did some things in college that were, at best, not smart. Reasonable odds I would have done the same thing – at least the first time. But I did want to point that out because I’m fairly sure some will use it as a justification for bashing Tech fans, who deserved the thrill as you say.

The only part that actually bothered me were the fans standing just at the edge of the field, shoulder to shoulder on the kick off. After the gruesome Marshall injury, I was a bit concerned about someone getting hurt.

As for what motivates players – who knows? If it does motivate the players, as a Texas ex, I hope we play it on a loop on the godzillatron next year.

Bleachers

That happens every game and the is because the Students jump up and down like the Duke’s do in basketball. So again in the end we are still undefeated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wreck’ em TECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

by techgolf44 on Nov 2, 2008 12:09 AM CDT reply actions

Yeah, what some don’t understand is that when they break the bleachers by jumping on them, they are doing the right thing by passing the broken bleacher down to be put on the end of the stands so it’s not a hazzard. It’s not like they are bringing screwdrivers to the game and taking them apart. They are just metal bleachers that happen to break when a row of kids stand and jump up and down. Give the bleacher thing a rest.

Not a longorn but...

congrats on a huge win from a Jayhawk..after the way you guys manhandled us I thought Texas was in for a fight and what an impressive win…impressive atmosphere, the Big12 South is where it’s at right now in college football.

Give me a break

I appreciate Horns fans…and all fans of other teams…reaching out to congratulate us. It was a great game. But spare me the “congrats, but oh by the way” crap. The “act like you have been there before” line from HornPossessed is absurd because guess what…WE HAVEN’T! We are taking our steps one at a time as we come into national relevance…at least for this season.

I agree with Tech92 that it was a bunch of excited students. I’ve been there. And, I’ve been there when the bleachers break. It is not exactly a new stadium and when big games come around and students jump up and down on them…some of them snap. You try to get them to down to the field so no one gets hurt. I have had that happen to me as well.

We’ll get better at this as we get to experience it more…and I hope we do. It has been such an exciting week and the game just capped everything off. I would have preferred not to have to worry about a last second win… but I’m not picky!

Thanks again for the well wishes and congratulations. It has been a fun season for us so far but we are in the middle of a similar “gauntlet” that Texas went through. We’ll be hanging on each game as we have the possibility of winning our conference division, our conference, and maybe even a national championship.

And guess what? We haven’t been there before either so who knows what might happen. I’m just glad we’re still on the ride this year and hope to make this a new starting point for each season to come.

Wreck ’em!!!!

by Techsan71 on Nov 2, 2008 12:56 AM CDT reply actions

I’m just glad no one can compare us to Kansas from last year, since we have actually beat somebody of relevance and have the chance to do much more. Just focus on okstate for our next “biggest game ever”. Every game for the rest of the season will be our “biggest game ever”.

We have never been here before, folks, so relish it. Don’t let down your guard and keep pounding away.

Great Game tech

Im not gonna lie, I am really unhappy with the way my horns played in the first half, but in the end they fought back like champions, the only problem is that my “champions” left the other “champions” too much time to come back. Oh well that is college football, congrats on the win. Hook’Em!!!

I was squirming in my favorite green chair in the second half. I honestly, and naively, thought that we were going to build on that first half (i.e., you guys did look flat and uncharacteristically dropped some passes). I have been to the last three games in Austin and think I have seen UT punt a total of 5 times…so I should have definitely known better. Colt and UT shook off all the negatives and came back strong. We could certainly start knocking each other off which means Texas is still in the hunt. You never know. I just hope we can keep taking it one game at a time. OSU scares me though. We usually struggle with teams that can run that well (i.e., UT teams the past few years). Thanks for the comments.

Congratulations

Texas Tech came to play. Deserved leaders of the Big 12 South.

I won’t lie: For Texas’ sake, I’ll be rooting against you heading forward, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t impressed with Harrell, the D-Line, Crabtree, and on and on and on. Tech was supposed to arrive this season/this week. Y’all stepped up.

Congratulations. Enjoy the champagne.

Thanks

As a Texas Tech, we’ve waited a long time for something like this. Too bad we only get to enjoy it for a week, things can change quickly.

Champagne doesn’t taste good after a couple days anyway. We will just need to enjoy a new bottle after next week, which is now the next biggest game in Tech’s history.

I am even more excited about getting to see Tech play live against OSU given where things stand as of today.

thanks

I used to hate UT fans for calling my 80-year-old grandmother expletives and throwing things at us for cheering on my brother when he played for an opposing team. I was ten years old in the stands and I still remember it 22 years later. Having said that, though, I’m impressed with the UT fans on this site. Thanks for the respect and the class. You guys are a far cry from the fans I remember, even at Tech games.
