Muschamp
Dodds stepped up in a very big way today by naming Will Muschamp his coach in waiting when Brown retires. They bumped his pay from $450K to $900K, as well, to keep him in Austin. Meyers? Are you listening to this? Step. Up.
Don't wait for the season to end, get on the phone with Leach's agent right now. Put down whatever it is you're doing, call his agent and ask, "What's his price?" And exceed it. Please.

agreed
but leach says he doesn’t want distractions, I say, when we win on saturday. show him the money!!
I find it hard to believe that muschamp will stay an assistant for as long as mack brown stays at UT. I figured Mack has 10 years in him EASILY. Maybe more. It will be interesting to see if he stays
Leach has an agent to deflect distractions in this sort of thing. All the agent needs to do is tell Meyers the starting point. It’s VERY easy to agree in principle on contract terms when money is mentioned by the buyer (I do this pretty frequently for work…if a client tells us their starting point, it is very, very easy to reach agreement and the details are always worked out later). Leach and his agent are the client in this case.
I just think a call by Meyers to the agent could have this underway and wrapped up in less than two days…without Leach being distracted. You know that he has a number in mind. Find out what it is (the agent sure as s*** knows what it is), top it, and be done.

If you not having fun....then your not playing the game right.
I think this is a smokescreen to protect Muschamp from leaving Texas. Mack still has a long time left there at UT, so is Muschamp willing to wait that long and watch good jobs pass him by? He would have been a good fit at Tennessee with his SEC background.
Regarding Leach, I just feel as fans we strongly need to let Myers know Leach must stay as coach and we very much appreciate him. There have been websites hosted by radio stations, the chancellor has spoke out, and the “after the season” talk. However, I just feel as Alumni and fans, we can do more to keep him. I know ultimately it will come down to dollars (which I have very little of), but there needs to be more student, city, and alumni involvement.
I live in Dallas so if there’s anything going on here we can get involved in, let us know. We have come too far to let the best coach at Texas Tech just up and leave because he doesn’t feel appreciated.
The contract is all but near finished
There is a few details that have to be ironed out. There is work on it with the agent. Leach has made it clear he wants to get past OU if not the Big 12 title game before he works out a few details that will take time on his part to deal with. Mainly, how much time and money is he willing to do promos and other adds and with what kind of companies.
Some coaches do not care who they run adds for. Leach does. Generally, Leach hates having to be in adds. But it may come down to that in a big promo deal for some big corporation like Under Armor, Nike, Puma or who ever. There is lots of those big companies right now working to get a deal made with the Red Raiders as they are the new hot team on the block and many of these corporations are looking to capitalize on the TV coverage.
So its more than just the money. I personally think the base salary is a done deal. Its the extras which are still being worked out.
Just a note
My term adds is not the same as ads. Adds means both advertisements and endorsements which is not a pure ad. There is also merchandising with the Leach name as well.
Sounds like a Jerry Jones [stunt] hire
Emotional hire,,,, that will last until Tech or OU stacks 35-45 points on them,,,then they’ll be wanting his head and his contract. Hope he had a good attorney. GO RAIDERS
Pretty interesting take
from SAEN’s Mike Finger:
So Dodds did something about it Tuesday, and proved once again that a $100-million-per-year athletic budget can buy more than just a lifetime supply of Ambien. By naming Muschamp as Brown’s eventual successor and rewarding him with a pay raise that will put the defensive coordinator’s salary close to that of an average head coach, UT staved off several potential sources of restlessness.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
Texas makes an obvious choice
The truth is that Mack Brown sees the writing on the wall. They will not get to the NC this year and will not see the Big 12 Championship game either. Muschamp was on several schools lists and the university most likely had been called several times to request access to Muschamp for job inquires.
As much as some people think that those are back room deals they are not. Almost all universities have in the contract a clause requiring notification of job seeking and requests with a stiff penalty if they try to do a back room deal.
I see Texas looking to make a run for the NC next year with McCoy a senior and a pretty good set of returning starters. The Last thing Texas needs is to find a new DC when they will have a legit shot at the NC next year.
