Texas Tech Thursday Morning Notes - Have A Happy Thanksgiving Edition

Double-T Nation News:

Without out a doubt, I am thankful for each and every one of you. Earlier this week Double-T Nation passed 400,000 visitors, and just in case you're wondering, it only took DTN a little over a month to garner 100,000 visitors. November was DTN's best month ever and it's not even over. Although I am thankful for a number of things in life, as far as this website is concerned, I'm thankful for each of you as well as my co-authors.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm probably out for the remainder of the day, although I will be back tomorrow, but then I won't be back until Saturday afternoon. I'm traveling to San Antonio for a wedding on Friday and driving back Saturday. On the way back the wife wants to go shopping on the busiest shopping day of the year, but considering I've ignored my wife for the past 3 months, I think she more than deserves it. I will not be able to watch the game, I don't have the Versus Network and I'm not going to order another package just so I can watch 1 more game. Since I won't be able to see the game, I may break down some thoughts based on the boxscore, but I'll be relying on you with your own reviews of the game. Please take the time to write a FanPost as I would like to post some of these to the front page on Saturday evening.

I do have some items on auto-schedule:

  • Prediction Time on Friday morning.
  • Preview and Open Game Day Thread of Pittsburgh vs. Texas Tech in men's basketball.
  • Open Game Day Thread of Baylor vs. Texas Tech, complete with yelling, face-painted girl.

Texas Tech Football:

Rock M Nation's The Boy takes a look at the Big 12 defenses and predicts wayyyy too early records for next year

ESPN Big 12 blogger Tim Griffin predicts this weekend's games, including a Texas Tech win:

Texas Tech 45, Baylor 24: The Red Raiders still have hopes of claiming a berth in the Big 12 title game with the right circumstances, but they have to still be a little dejected after their blowout loss at Oklahoma last week. But they need to get focused quickly to contain Baylor and scintillating freshman quarterback Robert Griffin. The Red Raiders have won 12 straight games in the series, including eight with Mike Leach as the coach. None of those Leach-coached games has been closer than 25 points with an average margin of 36.1 points per game. It will be an emotional return for Texas Tech graduate and former Leach assistant Art Briles. But his leaky pass defense will be too big of a liability in Graham Harrell's last home game.

And the great Phil Steele also predicts a Red Raider victory:

Normally when a team is #2 in the country and they lose like they did last week their title hopes are gone and that means a poor performance the next week. I call that the "Bubble Burst" theory as all their hopes and dreams of the year are gone and it is tough to play with emotion. Despite their drop in the BCS rankings they still have a solid shot at playing for the title game because if Oklahoma St beats Oklahoma (and the Cowboys are off a bye in a rivalry game at home vs a team off a huge win at home) then Texas Tech and Texas would be tied for the Big 12 South and Texas Tech would be in the title game because of their head-to-head win over Texas. Baylor QB Griffin has been a great story this year but is averaging just 144 ypg passing on the road (48%) and Lubbock is a very tough place to play (ask Texas and Oklahoma St).

PHIL’S FORECAST: TEXAS TECH 52 Baylor 24

LSUfreak from EDBS is genius.

Texas Tech Basketball:

Per LAJ's Jeff Walker, the entire team is on the east coast for the weekend's game, starting off with their game against #4 Pittsburgh. Junior Knight sounds like he needs some players on the team to pick up their performance:

"Some of them have got to pick it up," Knight said. "I’m not going to name names, but I’m disappointed in some guys’ performance because we thought we’d be getting more out of them."
