Post Game Thread: Baylor 28, Texas Tech 35
I just walked into the house and I listened to the entire game on the radio. From the sound of it, Texas Tech was playing short-handed for almost the entire 2nd half, without Michael Crabtree (in a walking book), L.A. Reed in street clothes, and Eric Morris injuring a calf. Not to mention a number of other possible smaller injuries along the defensive line.
It wasn't the prettiest win, but I'll take it, begrudgingly.
I'm about to help my wife do some things around the house so I probably won't check back in until tomorrow morning.
Consider this your open thread if you're checking in on Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State.
From listening to the radio:
- Offensive MVP: Detron Lewis
- Defensive MVP: Brandon Williams/McKinner Dixon

Well,
it’s all over but the waiting. Tech did its part, ugly though it was. We could have seen this coming from a mile away, though. Baylor, while improved, is still Baylor. Tech was coming off a massive let-down and was primed for a possible upset. They finally woke up a bit in the second half and made some tackles they were missing in droves in the first half. A casual observer would probably walk away thinking Tech was a decent team – not elite. (The boys, by the way, are getting skewered on BON, but that’s to be expected from most Horn fans who needed us to lose to improve their chances. I’m kind of glad OU will very likely jump Texas after tonight and shut them up for another year.)
But this game showed two things to me…we lack focus at the wrong times…and we have good overall character to make a nice comeback at home. I give this performance a B-. But it counts.

The turnovers from a senior
quarterback bother me, but like you say, it counts as a “W”. Go Cowboys . . .
Go Raiders . . .

having an argument over at BON
If OU loses then Tech goes and win the Big 12…who goes to the NC? UT or Tech? I just dont see how Tech gets the shaft when head to head is a factor…another option is USC going since oregon st is losing

Crabtree... National Champions don't lose by 44
That game knocked Tech out of the running. Also, people will see the struggles with Baylor (who easily could have won today) as evidence that Tech was overrated and only caught UT exhausted at the end of a 4 week death gauntlet (without a bye week like you had before OU). Beating MiZZOU (who today lost to Kansas and should fall to about #18-19), will not be enough for Tech to move up from #6 (assuming OU loses) to #2.

i dunno bout that
struggles against baylor… due to coming off a demoralizing loss to OU… it was a hangover as they all called it… not to mention the fact that we were playing injured.
if baylor could have easily won the game… they would have..
the second half of the game was solid after we cam out of the grog.
anyone who isn’t trying to defend texas’ loss can see that Tech dominated you nearly the entire game.
you lost…
I don’t know if it will be enough… however… if OSU pulls this out… all your campaigning about head to head could bite you in the ass… and it will be your fault

The words are not necessarily truth…they are the hopes of a UT fan trolling around. My question is why any college football or UT fan insists that an 11-1 team is underrated. Do you have any idea how retarded you sound saying that? I could care less if Tech beat UT on the last second, or it Tech wiped the field with the same OSU that is holding their own with OU. The fact is, there aren’t any major conference 11-1 teams that are overrated.
And I can’t wait to see Florida absolutely trash the field with Texas Longhorn bodies if it gets to that point.
Then Texas can say they not only lost the national title, but also the most overrated team in the conference.

After not giving up a . .
first down for THREE quarters, USC might be the team they opt to put in there in that scenario

I have always tended to root for the Longhorns over OU, but after a full season of dealing with t-sip internet trolls, it would tickle me to see UT left out.
39-33, baby.

Graham having surgery tomorrow
Texas Tech senior quarterback Graham Harrell of Ennis is expected to have surgery Sunday morning on his injured left (non-throwing) hand. The injury and the surgery aren’t expected to keep him out of action long and he is expected to be able to play if Tech reaches the Big 12 title game.
Harrell played the second half with his left pinkie and ring fingers taped together. He was injured midway through the second quarter.

Looks like we’re heading to the Cotton bowl. A 11-1 team versus some mediocre SEC team. I love the BCS!!!

Do you mean
Mac “Whine, cry, boo-hoo” Brown? Or all those sorry a_ wipes they call fans? I live amongst them, have family rooting for them, and it is hard at times. But when Tech BEATS the DOGS _T out of the Whorns, it is such sweetness. And, they are still whining after OU won. I love it.

I’m gonna have to stay away from any sports programming next week. The whining and pleading from Austin is gonna be unbearable. If they don’t get their way, it will last into next decade.

What are we whining about?
Nobody is questioning the shellacking we took against OU and you’d be hard-pressed to find any sane Tech fan saying that the loss didn’t knock us out of contention for the conference championship game based on how ties are decided. All we could hope for was a loss by OU. That didn’t happen and we accept our position below a hot OU team, unlike the UT faithful.
By record, none of the three teams have anything on the other. Each team has one loss which makes every team equal on paper, no ifs ands or buts about it.
The whining began when UT fans wanted to point out a head-to-head score in a three-way tie situation. That’s about as logical as my wife telling me 10 purses just isn’t enough (please don’t let me get struck down by lightning). Coming on our blog and pointing out our loss to OU has no bearing on UT-Tech. This year, there is only one point there, and that would be 39-33.

hmm..
First you ask “What are we whining about?” Then, have a paragraph dedicated to why Tech started whining. Tech has had a great year, and beat Texas in a great game. But I don’t understand the animosity against Texas for pleading its case. If Tech was in our situation, watching us to go the National Title after beating us on a neutral field, but then losing to OU by 6 at night on the road, you would be doing the same stuff.
It sucks that the system forces us to do this, but it’s not like Texas doesn’t have a legitimate argument to make here. Complaining loud enough might be the only way pressure finally mounts to a level where a playoff becomes a reality.

Please be specific...
..about where we are whining. I stated the facts. We lost to OU. There is a 3-way tie. We’re on the outside looking in since the tiebreaker comes down to opinion. We ACCEPT that. UT doesn’t. Touting OU’s score over us changes nothing about the fact that the score in the Tech-UT game was 39-33. Despite even that, it’s still a 3-way tie.
The problem with thinking that complaining will bring about change is that it seems disingenuous when you are in the group that is possibly being left out. When you are in the driver’s seat then the system is perfect and nothing needs to be changed. It’s only when people outside of those feeling screwed actually try to effect change that anything MIGHT happen. I would be 100% behind you if you mounted this same campaign in a situation where there was no question that you would be going to the conference championship and possibly the national championship. As it is, everyone comes across as sore losers. And it’s not just UT. Just look at Pete Carroll’s comments about the BCS once he realized their conference absolutely sucks and it would more than likely cost him a chance to play for the championship, even if they won out. Big money schools are happy with big money systems as long as it works in their favor. We’re stuck on the outside looking in until we can beat OU and UT in the same season (at a minimum, of course), which is strange because then that means it would all be settled on the field, like it should be, and not in a court of opinion.

Texas Tech
picked the wrong year to win 11 games. If they had done this last year, they would have probably played in the championship game. Oh well. We should be good for a very good, if not a BCS, bowl game. Lets concentrate on it, whatever bowl it is, and just blow the doors off the other guys. And next year, even without those seniors and Superman, we have a great chance to repeat this year’s accomplishments, maybe even improve a little—-say at least one game…….

I have to agree that Tech peaked in a crappy year.
Last season I think Tech would have gone to the MNC and possible won it. It is a shame that Tech has fallen to the Cotton Bowl. The Big 12 has to push the Cotton to increase its payout and get a better SEC team. Maybe Georgia will still be there now, with the loss, but I doubt it. Tech should destroy Ole Miss.
Tech consistently fields an elite team every 3-4 years but doesn’t have the depth to do it every season. If Bradford comes back, OU and Texas will both be better next year, and Tech should regress a bit. (we’ll see how Potts looks, and Batch should be asked to carry more of the load).
Time for Tech to pony up the cash and lock up Mike Leach. Eventually, another school or NFL team will come after him and TT can’t afford to lose him. Your AD should be on that Monday.

Great comeback.
I could easily make fun of Tech, but was only pointing out that I agreed with TTpilk. Keep hanging on to 39-33. If history has taught us anything, it’s that Texas will win more than they lose against Tech.
