OSU whipping
Boys, I think this game Saturday could be a beat down at the hands of the Red Raiders.
I think this year's Tech team has taken every game as the big game and that continues Saturday. The team learned a lot about themselves against UT. We can beat anyone. I don't think they will underestimate OSU at all, contrary to what our fine friends at BON believe. While many still don't respect our defense (#10 against the run nationally), I think OSU is ripe for a beatdown if this turns into a shootout.
They have a garbage defense against the pass (so do we, but passing is not OSU's sweet spot this season ~ 250 yds a game) and if Texas couldn't get consistent pressure on Harrell, I can't see OSU doing more. OSU only has 11 sacks all season (vs. 24 by Tech's defense). OSU will get their licks in, but I just don't see them hanging around all night long like UT somehow found a way to do.
Watching a replay of the game from Saturday, I'm a little surprised at all the points Tech left on the field. They could have had close to 50 if not for a some breakdowns inside the 20. Harrell took an awful sack for a 16 yd loss that resulted in a blocked FG. Texas had the 91 yd TD play on the next play from scrimmage. A drop by Britton of a sure TD, and a few off target throws by Harrell in situations where he's normally money.
My Too-Early-In-The-Week-To-Hold-Me-To-This prediction...OSU 28 TTU 56.

don't forget
the Offensive interference against Crabtree in the endzone. even a guy at BON (may barking
carnival?) gave us that one. they also gave us the TWO blocks in the back on the shipley
return. (missing a call on that is one thing, but calling it, THEN picking it up, REALLY?)
But I completely agree with your feelings on this one. the Pokes better look out.

Wasn't a drop by Britton
The pass to the endzone wasn’t a drop by Britton, the Texas defender tipped it with his fingertips exactly when Britton would have caught it. There were a few angles that ABC showed, and Texas (luckily) defended it well.
If no defensive last second tip happened, I believe that Britton would have caught that pass!
The Tech Players needs to F-O-C-U-S on everything “Oklahoma State”.
We need this win!
Lets see some articles on OSU, and their Offense & Defense……..

I think you’re thinking of the one that just barely missed leong on the 1st and goal from the 25 yard line?
Britton’s lone drop was in the first quarter on a scrable drill with Harrell lobbing the ball back across the direction of movement. It rolled right off the tips of britton’s fingers. would have been a tough catch, but those are the catches that we need our guys to make at times.

Someone needs to post the OSU TTU score
From last year. Then ask the team if that score is acceptable! Then ask the team if they will allow OSU to come into Our House to Do it again!
If anything, they need to post a poster of the OSU guy who said Tech was worthless after they beat us in Stillwater because we had no defensive game plan which led to a coaching change because that coach did not prepare a game plan and could not make in game adjustments because he did not spend the time in preparation.
Our Boys need to send a statement that Last year was a mistake that will not be repeated.

Last year notwithstanding
I think we’ve got OSU’s number in terms of matchups, especially on the lines. The D line continues to impress by getting consistent pressure with the base 4 man front, and the combination of Colby Whitlock, who played great against UT, and Brian Duncan in the middle is going to give Kendall Hunter some problems in the power running game. The secondary showed that they can be absolutely monstrous when they man up and start mauling receivers- OSU’s dropoff in receiving talent after Dez Bryant and their tight end whatshisface is going to let us do the same thing we did to Briscoe/Meier in Lawrence, and Shipley/Cosby last week. OSU’s best defensive game this year was against Mizzou, which I got to watch a little bit of, and to get pressure on Chase Daniel they had to bring all sorts of bizarre blitzing patterns- that’s all well and good against Mizzou, but sell out that hard against Harrell and he is going to torch your ass to any one of 5 receiving options on an at the line checkdown.
All that being said, though, I have immense respect for what Gundy’s been able to do with the ‘Pokes, and think it’s great that they’re fighting as hard as we are to stay relevant in such a tough division. I try to stay optimistic by convincing myself that he’s just one stellar season away from ditching Stillwater for an offer at an elite program.

having lived in Tulsa
and having peeps as OSU alums, they’re my #2 team. Id like to think Gundy would stay in that he’s an OSU grad, but it’s hard enough to get past UT and OU in one year. Don’t need any more competition. Hope he goes to Tenn too.

OSU offensive philosophy and defensive statistics
It is a run-first system, even out of the spread. They average 250 passing because that’s all they generally need. They have the 5th ranked rushing offense in the nation
The defense held Texas and Missouri both to their lowest point totals of the season. In conference play only, OSU is 1st in scoring defense, 3rd in rush defense, 5th in pass defense (yards), 1 in pass efficiency defense and 2nd in total defense.
OSU is 7th in the conference with 9 sacks in 5 games. Contrast that to 2 sacks in the 4 non-conference games (both in the opener vs WSU). I am pretty convinced that OSU played bend-but-don’t break against Wazzu, Houston and Troy and kept their defensive scheming under wraps until Missouri. By comparison, OU leads the Big 12 in sacks with 3 per game. So it’s basically a 1-sack-per-game difference. OSU has sacked each QB twice in conference play, except McCoy, and they stripped the ball from him after a 1-yard scramble in the 4th quarter…definitely a preferable outcome to a 1-yard sack.
OSU is generating much more pressure on the QB since the start of conference play…the results are seen more in interceptions, than in sacks. OSU leads the Big 12 in conference play with 8 interceptions. Daniel had 3 and McCoy had 1, plus another wiped out by a rouging penalty.
Let’s also remember that until the winning TD last Saturday night, the Tech offense had 3 second-half points, with the TD coming on an INT return, and nearly blew a 22-6 halftime lead. Similar to last year in Stillwater, when Tech led 35-28 at the half, but only scored 10 in the second half, or when they led OU 27-10 at the half and only managed a single TD after the break. It would appear to me that solid teams are capable to make significant adjustments against TTU.
Converesly, if Tech falls behind early, I take no comfort. They are equally adept at making the proper adjustments when they fall behind. (See OSU 2003, Insight Bowl 2007) I just can’t recall the last time they put together two dominant offensive halves together against a legit opponent (Kansas, now unranked, does not qualify).
This isn’t the Oklahoma State defense of old. Freshmen and sophomores thrown to the fire without a redshirt season are now matured juniors and seniors. Every team facing OSU has fallen short of their season offensive output. Now Tech is just going to put up 56, coming off their most emotional win EVER? Very unlikely.
Another thing to consider…OSU is the only team to beat the Vegas number in every game this season (8-0). And their two big expected shooutouts (Mizzou, Texas) missed the over by 26 and 14 points, respectively.
The last true blowout in this series was in 2002. The game will be too close to call. Let’s say 31-28, in favor of which ever team your allegiancies lean toward. Looking forward to another classic!

Thanks wino...
For the OSU perspective and information on rankings, etc. It certainly sheds light on the things that scare me most about OSU. I agree it is going to be a lower scoring game with no more than a three point margin as you suggest. I’m not sure my ticker can take many more of these…although it sure is fun!

Seriously,
we (the internet) need a well-written OSU blog. You should consider starting one.

I think the stats show that every Big 12 team (except Baylor) has gone under their season rushing average but over their passing average when playing the pokes. They say their O is balanced, but they run about twice as many times as they pass to get those yardage figures.
Tech Pirate, here’s a site with some good breakdowns of offense and defense for us and OSU: http://www.tortillaretort.com/
