Gauntlet fodder

Ok, so everyone is talking about how hard it will be for tech to run the gauntlet. But what most UT fans and others I've read from don't realize is...

Although we play four games in a row against ranked opponents...

IT'S NOT FOUR WEEKS IN A ROW

we get by OSU and then we get a bye to week to get our fresh legs back, UT didn't have that luxury. we will have more than enough time to get mentally and physically prepared for OU. Our first bye week sure did seem to prepare us beautifully for KSU. Of course, once Texas fans realize this, they will probably start arguing that our stretch was even easier than theirs after switching MIzzou for KU, where they still get to play. Players are asked every week to get prepared for whatever opponent.
And anyways, when did college players start being expected to be more tired after a stretch like that than before...does everyone just assume that the players aren't trying that hard against inferior opponents? Likely...but after watching the last 5 weeks of Big XII ball, our effort just has not seemed to waver. Thank goodness for so much depth up front on the DLine.

Bye week

The Bye week not only applies to us, but OU has this same week off, and should be just as fresh as Tech. When I first saw the bye week, I was ecstatic, however, upon looking further into OU I noticed they had this same time to recoup.

True BUT

I think the bye week means more to us. If we win this week then we’ll be able to use the bye week as the perfect opportunity to get our kids’ heads back down to earth and to focus two entire weeks of practice on OU. The sooners are still banged up with some of their secondary being out for 2-3 weeks yet so they won’t be quite as 100% as I think they’d hope. All in all I still like the way it’s unfolding.

I’m almost glad the OU game is on the road. While playing at home is a big boost, it also carries with it a little more pressure to be perfect. On the road, you take a few more gambles – and those can often be difference makers against great teams like OU.

The boys will be glad to get the breather, though. (and I can hear the Horn fans bellowing now about the unfairness of it all…take that to the Big XII, they create the conference schedules, not the teams).

UT has become aggie...

I swear I have never heard so much crying, whining, and rationalizing in my whole life. This is my usual aggie imitation, but now it is also my longhorn imitation… ready?

BEFORE THE GAME: “You suck, you’re overrated, you haven’t played anybody, you couldn’t beat a top team for anything” which devolves into… “Lubbock is a backwater dustbucket with whores and battery throwing heathens on every street corner… and they are all homophobes! And if Tech wins it will be a singular glitch, and then they’ll lose to everyone else and go bang their bells and throw their taco shells and be losers from hell”

AFTER THE GAME: “The refs suck! We were tired and beat up! We had a down night, and Tech was playing way over their heads on some sort of excitement crack. And the refs suck. And that’s not why we lost, but still… and what’s up with all the holding? And we had a bad night, and our guys were banged up and tired! And Tech will lose to OSU by 12 because they ran out of excitement crack! And only classless clowns would ever rush the field, and we were tired! Did I… say we were tired and hurt?”

hmmmm…. aggie disease spreads

... I'm just sayin'

speaking of bye weeks

OSU gets a bye the week before OU. Tim Griffin on ESPN’s Big 12 Blog has OSU as a favorite against OU on Stillwater. We get past OSU and we’re still in hunt for Big 12 Champ Game if we somehow fall to OU, Beat baylor and OSU beats OU. Not conceding the OU game, but there’s alot riding on this Saturday’s game If we were to beat all but OU, UT would go to champ game by virtue of likely higher ranking in BCS per a 3 way tie. I’m 37, but giggled when I wrote 3 way.

don't forget

the championship game. Probably against Mizzou, which will basically be a home game for them (we’re going – don’t anyone think any differently)
