Tell me about buying tickets

I am heading into Lubbock this weekend, kinda a last minute drive. I've been hearing a lot of bad things about scalpers selling counterfeit tickets this year. But in the first place, I've never had to buy a ticket from a scalper and I'm not really sure how you do that in Lubbock. So, what wisdom do you guys have that you could impart upon me? (that I try to get a ticket to get into the game hinges on my friends being able to get into the game as students as well. It shouldn't be as big of a problem this week as it was last week to get in for them, though, right?)

There is no guarantee that any transaction will be safe. It is going to come down to whether you really trust the individual selling you the tickets or not. You may ask that they accompany you to the actual gate to see if they scan. I don’t know really.

someone had a good idea: take a camera and take a picture of the guy selling the ticket to you.

I added to that idea with the thought that I would also take a picture of the guy’s driver’s license, if I could (and if i couldn’t, i wouldn’t buy it from him).

Driver's License picture

Even if I was scalping legit tickets, I would never let someone take a picture of my driver’s license, there is too much risk of identity theft nowadays. Not to discredit you as a person, just stating that even if a scalper was legit, it wouldn’t be smart to let someone take a picture of the driver’s license.

Call the ticket office.

They sell tickets that people have left over or found that they will not be able to attend the game. They ask the School to resale the tickets for them and they get credit for either another sport or for tickets next year.

There were 145 tickets still for sale at the ticket office as of Wednesday afternoon. I checked. I already had a ticket to the game but I looked to see if it was sold out. It was not. But then the Texas game was not totally sold out until Tuesdays of last week.

Like I said there are some return tickets that are there. They are normally one seaters and if you are lucky, you might find two together.

ask the guy selling to go with you to get the ticket scanned

my professor is chairman of the athletic council, and this is what he suggests that you do! if they won’t walk with you to the gate to get it scanned, it is probably fake.
