We need to get over it and support Oklahoma in Miami

I agree the system sucks, Tech played one hell of a season.  For the big 12 south this has been possibly the most explosive season to date and I for one am glad to have been off work to catch most of the games.  That said our next battle is SEC vs. Big12.  Im sick of the nonsense Ill easily support any big12 team for the title game.  The haters will be silenced OU make sure you beat UF and shut Corso up.  Lmao about Texas getting the shaft.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors.

So, according to boy genius Mark Schlabach on ESPN, if it came down to Tech vs. UT for a BCS bid it should go to UT because of … strength of schedule. Not head to head. Apparently, the fact Tech played to FCS schools, the head to head win is diminished. But he argues UT should go ahead of OU beacause of head to head.

Funny, but I kind of thought the strength of schedule should be a tie breaker after you got past any sort of head to head issue. I swear, the erection for UT that ESPN has is amazing.

Sounds right, UT cry’s about Head to Head until it does not work for them (BCS at large).

Since Oklahoma and Florida could potentially be two loss teams after the conference championships, would either of their losses open a spot for Tech in a BCS game, particularly the Sugar Bowl? And, by my own bowl predictions, does that need to happen:

NC: Oklahoma v. Florida
Orange: Cincinnati v. ACC who cares
Fiesta: Texas v. Utah
Rose: USC v. Penn State
Sugar: Alabama v. Texas Tech (?)

Doesn’t that make sense? Does anyone expect Ohio State or Boise State to get picked over Tech? Am I forgetting a team?

There are a large, large number of people who don’t understand the way the BCS works. It is impossible for more than 2 teams from the big XII to go into BCS bowls unless #1 and #2 are both from the same conference AND are not conference winners (for example, if tiebreakers had worked out to TTU going to the big XII championship game but still had OU and UT as #1 and #2).

The only way that Tech can make a BCS bowl now, without somehow jumping UT is by UT dropping to #5 (maybe a USC blowout of UCLA, OU blowout of Missouri, and close game between Alabama and Florida with Florida pulling it out) and then Tech being chosen over an admittedly more appealing UT team. It happened last year with a lower ranked Kansas being chosen over a higher ranked Missouri, but Missouri had the stigma of being the conference championship loser, something UT won’t have.

It is possible that the Cotton Bowl extends an offer to TTU this week, though I think they will wait to see the result of the Big XII Championship (because a 10-2 OU is an appealing draw, even over an 11-1 TTU).

While I am not holding my breath,

I had the same thought and tried for two weeks to voice that.

However, you should be careful about posting things like this. Some yokel from Austin will swoop in to update you on TU’s superiority post haste!

One conference can only have 2 teams. Texas is in for sure due to their high bcs rank. OU will go to NC if they win. Mizzou will get a bcs game if they beat OU.

In all scenarios right now, Tech gets the shaft. It is obvious to every literate person in that Tech is better than the ACC or Big East winner. But according to bcs rules, Tech has no hope and is off to the Cotton (unless OU loses and gets picked over Tech, which would make the shaft factor grow exponentially and send Tech to the Holiday Bowl.)

i think OU made UT looked like a saint

Going into this season my most hated rival was by and large UT… after watching the cockiness and cheap shots taken by OU, I hate OU more than I have ever hated UT… OU takes cake

I felt the same way…right up until all the complaining and politicing UT did. I get why they did it, but it still made my eyes bleed.

by Tech92 on Dec 1, 2008 5:28 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

agreed, the politicing was pathetic

however, give them credit for doing the best they could to support their school. It wasn’t as much players and coaches politicing as it was fans… and I have always felt that a true fan does all they can to support their team (why my voice is gone every sunday morning) if that means holding up a sign with 2 numbers on it, then do it… but again, a little over the top.

The Texas fans are a smart group, by and large. And some of the theories they toss around over at BON on how Texas can make the title game are pretty interesting, if not completely unlikely. And I completely appreciate their support for the Horns…but at some point, the talk turns into whinning…and begging…and pleading. Not really manly, eh? : )

In our defense, please keep in mind the size and diversity of the fanbase

Including the Alumni and our t-shirt fans we’re dealing with a very large group of people, millions wouldn’t be an exaggeration if you include varying levels of fandom.

As a proud Texas Ex have I seen some things lately I would rather not be associated with my beloved Alma Mater? Without question. Do I think Tech got shafted in many of the arguments made on our behalf on message boards and ESPN? Yep. Do I think some of the support took on a whiny quality? Yes, and I think a stiff upper lip would have served us better.

Did I think hiring an airplane to circle a game in Oklahoma, in which UT was not participating was comically absurd? Yes, and I’ll have tears of laughter in my eyes telling my kids one day.

Welcome to life as a University of Texas fan. You learn to accept the beautiful chaos and the ugly maelstrom and roll with it. Win, lose or draw there’s rarely a dull moment.

A word of warning, as Tech’s success continues and the fan base grows across the country, your world will start to look more like mine than you might think. On that note, Guns Up.

proud to swim home
