Our kid gets left out after going 11-1, beating one of the kids who got invited. The other two just happen to be playing in the Mythical National Championship game. How can that award mean anything any more?

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE… WHAT THE HELLLLLL

This really is disappointing. Harrell got robbed in the worst way.

It's just politics.

The nominating group are elitists. If they weren’t, they would have nominated Crab last year. I’m not surprised.

Go Tech!!!

Damn, I seriously thought Crabtree was a finalist last year

I just looked it up and Colt Brennan and Chase Daniel made it! WTF! If that doesn’t say how out of touch this award has become with football reality, I don’t know what does. Anytime Reggie Bush can win the Heisman for dominating Fresno State, while Vince Young comes in second after leading the nation in passing efficiency, rushing for over 1000 yards, and oh yeah… almost single handedly winning 2 Rose Bowls, you know the award sucks now.

I really believe Harrell will produce in the NFL. If there was ever a QB who performs better with a chip on his shoulder, its Graham. He’s going to destroy Ole Miss.

sucker punch

Even Colt Brennan got the New York invite…

This stinks

I cannot believe in a system that has this happen. Without a doubt, Harrell was the best QB, best leader in the country. He BEAT McCoy in a great comeback and throw. This is exactly what he has been capable of doing, HAS been doing, for three years. He had a good game against OU while the rest of the team took the night off, or tried to. The Heisman is an uppity group of people who know little about the real players and get all their info from the papers. And WHO are plastered on the fronts of the papers? Tebow (only ONE decent game all season), McCoy (whine, whine) and Bradford (run it up some more). Well, this is certainly not the first disappointment we Tech fans have had, it won’t be the last, and the media will always try to overshadow our accomplishments by pushing “name” schools and their players. It sucks. But, the silver lining: consider the sources. In our hearts, we know Graham Harrell is the best this year. And our foes in the Cotton? They just saw a big time wakeup call to Tech. Pooorrrr Rebels. I did not expect a real high scoring affair, but NOW. Tech may lay 60 or 70 on those hapless SEC wannabes. WRECK ’EM TECH!

Stats don't whine

It’s always funny how every elitist that disses Tech players falls back on the “what he means to the team”. They make it sound like it is this grand thing that cannot be measured..the “intangibles”. But they turn around and are the first to use it as the primary differentiator when their guy comes out below others when real measurables are used.
I posted earlier how, to me, what you “mean” to your team is how much you contribute to their overall success offensively (since we are discussing an offensive position). I now extend my analysis to include the other Heisman finalists.

McCoy produced 4021 (576 rushing) out of 5717 total yards for UT. That accounts for 70 percent of the offense.
Bradford produced 4529 (65 rushing) out of 7307 total yards for OU. That accounts for 62 percent of the offense.
Tebow produced 3079 (564 rushing) out of 5751 total yards for UF. That accounts for 54 percent of the offense.
Harrell produced 4689 out of 6434 total yards for Tech (even taking into consideration his negative rushing totals). That accounts for 73 percent of the offense.

McCoy had 42 TDs combined (passing and rushing) over 12 games, which accounts for 48 percent of the team’s scoring per game (based on a 43.9 pts/game average).
Bradford had 53 TDs combined over 13 games, which accounts for 45 percent of the team’s scoring per game (based on a 54.0 pts/game average).
Tebow had 40 TDs combined over 13 games, which accounts for 41 percent of the team’s scoring per game (based on a 45.2 pts/game average)
Harrell had 47 TDs combined over 12 games, which accounts for 53 percent of the team’s scoring per game (based on a 44.6 pts/game average).

No matter how you look at it, Harrell comes out on top. And if they want to fall back on the "intangibles", you would think a last-minute TD drive against the #1 team in the nation would give him an edge over the losing team’s QB.

And don’t tell me it’s about winning. This year we have the exact number of losses as the finalist’s teams.

Welcome to elitism.

At least, on ESPN news, they made a big deal about Harrell being left out, showing his stats and noting that he was the only QB to beat UT.

ESPN’s Tim Griffin feels the same way. I think our ire should be pointed towards the NY Athletic Club here’s their email address: info@heisman.com. Enjoy.

Seth thanks for posting this

I agree with Tim all the way… Harrell is such a class act, but because Mike Leach doesn’t rub him in everyone’s face, then nobody knows about it. Graham, you got hosed!

Great post...

TSR…this says it all. Great post. When I learned about this last night I was trying to (calmly) try to understand how Harrell could be a distant 4th to these guys (no other reason for not being invited). Individual stats, what he meant to the team, or team record…he has it all.

Prior to this year, the knock was always “great numbers but against garbage teams, Tech folds against the big teams”. While I will grant we had a terrible game against OU, we still beat UT (on the skills and abilities of Crabtree and Harrell), we dominated Ok State. And played huge against Kansas. If you’re gonna whine that we had to squeak out a win against Baylor, I say you’ve gotta give Harrell points for grit for winning that with a shattered hand. There is NO excuse for Harrell not being there UNLESS Crabtree was there instead, and in my opinion, both should be there anyway.

ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!! I AM MAD MAD MAD MAD

SNUBBED AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a way to end the season!

by johnlaf13 on Dec 10, 2008 7:42 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

At least Leach is speaking out against this BS...

“If Graham is not invited to the Heisman, they ought to quit giving out the award,” Leach said. “It is a shameless example of politics ruling over performance. The other guys are deserving, but he has earned a place alongside them.”

And it is so true.

F**king slap in the face.
