Keys to the Game:

  1. How About Some Defense: If there was every a time to have to concentrate to stop a couple of players, Jackson and Culpepper, now's the time. I'm not sure who's going to cover Jackson. Had Okorie been healthy, he'd be perfect, and I'm afraid that Singletary is a step slow. Roberson is going to have an opportunity to prove that he can play on both ends of the court defending Culpepper.
  2. How About Some Height: Seriously? Six-eleven and seven foot? I'm not necessarily a huge believer in Damir Suljagic, but if there's one guy that I absolutely trust in the post playing defense, it's Suljagic. He might deserve more than a token few minutes tonight.
  3. Work The Offense: As mentioned in DTN's basketball report, Texas Tech cannot afford to get lazy on offense and settle for jumpshots. Keep working the ball inside and give yourself and team some easy opportunities.

GO RAIDERS . . .

*Stats can be found at Ken Pomeroy: K.P. Rank = the Ken Pomeroy Rank; Offensive Efficiency = the national rank in terms of points scored per 100 possessions; Defensive Efficiency = the national rank in terms of points allowed per 100 possession. Numbers in parentheses are national rank.

Checkmate

That is what UTEP did to us. Ugh….not pretty. Good thing they learned how to defend this week, else the score could have been a lot worse.

the good: Roberson scores 33 on 10-18 plus 4-8 on 3’s and a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. Also has 9 assists. Robert Lewandowski goes 3-3 from the field and picks up 5 rebounds in 11 minutes.

the bad: Roberson had 4 turnovers. The only stats to Cohadarevic’s name are 8 minutes an 1 turnover.

the ugly: the only other person to score double digits was Suljagic with 10. Voskuil went 1-10 from the floor an 0-6 from 3-point range in 34 minutes.

in short: we gave up 96 points to a middle of the road UTEP team by giving them 5 more possessions on turnovers, 7 more offensive rebounds and 4 more defensive rebounds. They hit a good 51% from the floor and an unimpressive 35% from 3-point range, but they still destroyed us because of mistakes and easy buckets. They also were on fire for a while there and used that to blow us out of the water.

I know basically squat about BBall, but with all the ranked teams in the Big 12 this could be a really long season.
