So it looks like we can put the silly academic arguments to bed with regards to Tech v. AM v. UT. Tech clearly educates it's players much better than do the "big boys."

Sadly, it looks like half of all Texas players leave school without a completed education, very little to no job training, and almost no shot at the NFL.

Of the schools worth a dang we're #1

BC not ranked in AP top 25. Northwestern is the only one above us even ranked. All schools ahead of us are exremely competitive private schools, some tiny. We are a large state u and I am very, very proud.

I may be wrong, but I believe Tech is the top ranked public school. Is Wake or Stanford public?

Well there you go...top ranked public school.

Tech needs to blare this from every media loudspeaker they have. This is a fantastic accomplishment, but I bet we hear nary a peep from the national media about this.

NCAA Football Grad. Rate: Texas Tech 79%, Baylor 78%, Oklahoma State 62%, Texas A&M 56%, Texas 50%, OU 46%

There were some different numbers in the study by UCF that Seth linked to in the last couple of days that made UT and OU look even worse – like down into the sub-40% rates for black players at UT. Different methodologies – different numbers.

Did anyone else ever read Meat On The Hoof? I read it about 40+ years ago. It was a scathing indictment of the football program at UT in the DK Royal era. (My dad gave it to me. He was an OU grad from the Bud Wilkinson era.) It’s been a long time, but the general theme was that if you weren’t a first or second string player, you were thrown under the bus and left for dead. If you were given a scholarship but didn’t meet expectations on the field, they would try everything to take the scholarship away so a better player could get it. Institutionalized attitudes are hard to break, apparently.

the reason that this isn't well published is because

UT and OU will argue that it is because they have good enough players that leave early for the draft rather than finish out their education. But still, they gap shouldn’t be that high. Also they argue that TTU is “Texas tech high school” or weak academics and that they could get a degree at tech with their eyes closed, even though they only have a GED and t shirt themselves.

iirc

the NCAA stats follow a player for 5 years after leaving school to allow credit for players who go to the NFL and graduate after a few semesters in the off seasons. If they never graduate, does that mean they’re smart guys who are so rich it doesn’t matter? Or are they still big dumb guys who have to have someone else take care of their business and personal matters for the rest of their lives? Just a wild (“BOOMER!”) guess, but I’m going out on a (“BOOMER!”) limb to say Billy Sims is (“BOOMER!”) in that second category (“BOOMER!”). I don’t see the NFL as an excuse.

And LMAO about the ‘high school’ argument we’ve all heard. I guarantee you the heavy science/engineering focus at Tech makes the liberal arts focus at UT seem like high school. That’s just more of the aggie mentality that UT has adopted as their own.

ok..

but doesn’t amount to a hill of beans when considering a Big 12 tie breaker.

I agree, they are student athletes.. but if you go preaching this, you’re no better then the Aggies that try to use the “who cares about football, we are smarter then you” come back.
