RECRUITING

Did  we lose any commits after the massacre in  Norman?   Do we have any  good ones looking over the fence at us for next year. A big win in the COTTON BOWL right here in Texas would be a big shot in the arm for the undecided. We absolutely cannot afford to lay another EGG in this bowl on national TV.I really wished we could get a 4 star olb  and defensive end.  GO TECH

Stay tuned, a recruiting rundown should be forthcoming.

Scout.com

HERE is their breakdown of recruiting commits as of today. If you click on our team name (No. 30 on 2nd page), it gives the details of each player so far.

furthermore, does this crap about our coach shopping himself get the kids a little antsy. If all he’s doing is using UW as a bargaining chip, why doesn’t he just go to Myers and say, “You know, UW is interested, but rather than have the recruits feel our program is unstable in the least, let’s just do this contract” Or does all of this have to happen to get the pocket books scared of his immenent departure.

LIMBO

I agress with PLANO JEFF, all this keeping the players and school in LIMBO, damn sure cant help the recruiting. You know other coaches in the BIG12 are using this as a recruiting tool, saying that hr’ll probably go.

Damn ,,we are #30 in recruitng, after this year, i figured in top 25 easy, after this year we had. Maybe late commits will come through once LEACH, commits. We need a Big COTTON BOWL VICTORY TO MAKE THIS SEASON COMPLETE

Weren’t you questioning his coaching ability on an earlier thread? Didn’t you suggest he doesn’t know how to pick assistant coaches? Maybe he’s in Washington right now to tell all the fans with unrealistic expectations, the haters, the pessimists, and the Sunday morning quarterbacks to shut up.

Hell, if I was him and had read some of the things said about him and the program by his own fans, I’d be looking for another job too.

Wes Welker can't be stopped.

for recruiting sites, quantity > quality.

As long as Leach sticks, this is his best recruiting class.

We'll see recruiting results next year

This years class is better than last years. But one thing to consider when following recruiting is this, If you have a great year on the football field, the full impact won’t be seen in recruiting, until the following recruiting class. In other words, this recruiting class won’t be as impacted by our best year ever, as much as next years class. The main reason for this, is that most of these kids made up their minds months ago.

So I don’t think this uw deal has much impact on recruiting unless Leach actually leaves. We don’t have much room in this years class anyway, only so many scholarships to offer. Right now, most of our recruiting efforts are toawrds the 2010 class.

Our recruits have gradually gotten better while Leach has been here. He has taken us to a better bowl almost every year. And winning those bowl games has definitely been a factor as well. Let’s just POUND whoever we face in the Cottonbowl!

Recruiting a close look

Has anyone paid any attention to who we are recruiting?

We are recruiting defensive players heavily right now. More than in any other year.

Last year was also a heavy defensive year.

We also pick up a QB, WR and OTS every year.

But the shock is that this year we actually recruited LBs who are of quality. IN years past we converted players to LB. Thus they always were in a learning curve.

This year we recruited LBS and quality Secondary where normally we convert RB and WR or Athletic players to secondary.

Last year was good. This year is better. We are getting better and better recruits and its getting more and more obvious. I remember 5 years ago that we were lucky to get just 1 4 star recruit to even come look at the Tech Campus.

Now we get 4 to 5 4 Stars who commit to Tech. We are also getting 5 stars to actually look seriously at the Tech program and take a visit which one did this year. We lost that recruit to Alabama after the OU game but honestly, I am not necessarily big on 5 stars that much because they have a low percentage of actually producing as advertised.

But 3 and 4 stars do produce as advertised. We are getting solid 3 and 4 stars.

I can remembe when it was no stars, and massive amount of 2 stars a couple of 3 stars and maybe one 4 star player came to Tech.

Now its a steady diet of 3 and 4 stars. The improvement is very noticeable.

We have arrived in recruiting. It would be nice to see a couple more 4 stars in the future, but I honestly think that we are hitting near peak for high quality players which fit the program.

Its not like some schools who have to pick 5 star players to impress the boosters. Look at A&M. Their team is made up of 4 and 5 star players.

The truth is that it has taken Leach about a decade to overcome Tech’s past and the steady diet of bowl games which is impressive. In fact, Tech has one of the longest Bowl appearances in the country in going to consectutive bowls. Its the longest in the Big 12.

If Potts or Doege works out at the very least 80% of Harrell’s numbers this year and we improve on Defense with a better secondary and Front line, then TTech could go all the way next year.

The truth is that TTech can get to 10-2 or 11-1 or even 12-0 next year. All thouse fair weather fans and pundits I heard and read today are saying TTech will go 9-3 or 8-4 next year because we will get a new QB.

I think not. With each passing year, the team has improved. In the last year, we finally have seen Leach make a concerted effort to focus on defensive players and Leach has modified the offense this year from years past.

People may overlook those things, but the concerted effort by Leach to make the changes over the last 18 months are huge and the reason why the program is much more successful. BJ Simmons had a year like Harrell’s this year. But could not do better than 9-3 that year. So what was the difference this year?

We improved on defense and we made serious changes on Offense to actually close down the massive splits and actually produce a real running game with true designed running plays for the running back where the offensive line actually must do complicated run blocking.

That is something that was not done in years past.

I see next year as being at minimum 10-2.

After all, We play Iowa State, Colorado and Missouri who will be looking for a new QB and they do not have a replacement for Chase like Tech has for Harrell.

That is the difference. Tech has selected every single year one to 5 QBs. Thus Tech has plenty of quality QBs out there.

I really think that Doege will be impressive in the spring. The issue is can Potts make the reads he needs to make and put the ball where it needs to be put. Potts problem is that he has relied on his cannon arm to throw hard as hell but has not found the touch or finess throws.

Guns Up for Next Year and beyond! The Recruits that have Chosen Tech and those who will choose Tech will be secure in knowing that TTech will be a top 10 team for the next several years to come.

great post but

I think we get one more year of KU, NU, KSU. Which is fine by me. Means we get the 2 Kansas teams at home, Cornies up there, we go to OSU, UT, and BU, but get Aggie any Sooner at home. I still think we lose two but I’ll take it. Pisses me off that you still can’t get a Tech jersey at wally world, dick’s, academy, etc. I know tons of kids would jump on the band wagon and become Tech “fans” which would translate to game attendance, enrollment, and overall perception of Tech in re the ESPNs of the world covering us more. Its kind of like Paris Hilton. Why is she a “celebrity?” Dont say that video. She’s famous for being famous. Just like Georgia is auto top 10 every year just cause their Georgia. If we are top 10 long enough, we’ll be a permanent fixture. Like Al Davis says, “Just win baby!”

You have to forgive Pablo. He’s well meaning, just often a bit off on his fact checking.
