Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

[...] Crabtree made a very surprising statement today regarding the NFL Draft.

"Yeah," he responded when asked if he would be returning for his junior season.

But surely, there must be some consideration of entering the NFL?

"No, not at all," responded Crabtree when asked that question.

He knows

Maybe he knows he will get the ball deep with Potts unloading his cannon for a right arm.

I don’t know how to take this. I want to believe him, but I just don’t see why he would turn down the NFL right now.

by djollie111 on Dec 4, 2008 4:30 PM CST reply actions

Ehh…color me veeeeery skeptical. Not that he wouldn’t want to stay, but how do you turn down top 5 money?? I think it would be a bad move to come back, personally. If he was my son, I’d tell that kid to play his arse off in the bowl game and promptly declare for the draft about 15 seconds after the final gun.

I think the other comments following those quotes

are more telling. I don’t see it happening, but if he does stay, he can get like $3 mil in insurance if he can prove he would have been a 1st round pick THIS year. it’s perfectly ok with the ncaa from what i read. we can all pitch in a pay his premiums! ok, that might not be cool. Hope they quit throwing his name around with that awful crap in re DB D. Sanders.

i know you were kidding, but i’ve gotta point out that us paying his premiums on draft status insurance is an NCAA violation :V

by kayakyakr on Dec 4, 2008 4:44 PM CST up reply actions

I think what he may have meant is..

I’m concentrating on our Bowl game right now, until then, I will not announce my fraft status.

by TT4EVER on Dec 4, 2008 4:49 PM CST reply actions

I’m pretty sure you are correct

by jeffinhouston on Dec 4, 2008 4:50 PM CST up reply actions

That or...

I DREAMED IT in my HEAD!!…National Championship next year!

by TT4EVER on Dec 4, 2008 4:51 PM CST up reply actions

I like your optimism…but after this year, just winning the south would make me really, really happy.

by Tech92 on Dec 4, 2008 5:01 PM CST up reply actions

Same here..

Just making a joke referencing his quote after “the play” on ABC.

by TT4EVER on Dec 4, 2008 5:11 PM CST up reply actions

Not going

is crazy. Isn’t there a cap on the signing bonus after this year? I’d love for him to stay, but I also want the best for him. NFL is where he belongs.

by NM99 on Dec 4, 2008 5:17 PM CST reply actions

I want what is best for me, though.

And that is Michael Crabtree at Texas Tech.

Go register. Or else.

Not to change the subject but...

Just saw John Parker Wilson(Alabam QB) on espn…is it just me, or does he look like Opie?

“He hasn’t told me that,” Crabtree’s father told the News. “We’re pretty much leaning toward coming out. But it’s up to him. If he wants to come back and win championships, I won’t be mad at him.”

Crabtree’s father has always made it apparent that the payday is the most important thing to him. Crabs himself has never said much in either way.

by kayakyakr on Dec 4, 2008 7:02 PM CST reply actions

I’ve pretty much thought the same thing. I don’t know how close dad/son are, but Crabtree Sr sort of creeps me out. Sounds very much like he wants junior to support him at some point. Nice.

by Tech92 on Dec 4, 2008 7:14 PM CST up reply actions

wasn’t there a quote from Sr last year that Crab would not play after his soph year?

"56,000 screaming crazies in The Jones rockin' as it has never rocked before" - Terry Bowden

If you not having fun....then your not playing the game right.

See you say that

and then a pro agent texts you the number of zeroes at the end of your first NFL check. Don’t toy with me Crabs, just go. Go now so I can remember this magical time we had as when I first experienced it. Beautiful, pure and sublime.

:(

by mojavereject on Dec 4, 2008 9:24 PM CST reply actions

yeah we will see

where this all leads… sr sounds a little bit like david archuleta’s dad on american idol haha… I think crab will go pro but I would welcome him back with open arms… regardless he has done more for this program than any player has in the past 20 years… he helped give us a face. Dont get me wrong I give Harrell and Leach more credit for the results, but the media loved Crab.

Crabtree has $1 Million Insurance Policy This Year

http://www.star-telegram.com/college_sports/story/1078065.html

“At first he said he was going to declare, but I don’t know what he’s doing now,” the elder Crabtree said of his son’s NFL aspirations. “I think he’ll put his name out there and see.”

If word is that he would go “in the top five or 10, we’ll probably consider [declaring] then,” Crabtree’s father said. “But I’m quite sure he’s still going to put his name out there to see.”
