Auburn, which hired Tommy Tuberville away from Ole Miss in 1999, has shown an interest in current Rebels head coach Houston Nutt. The Tigers are also interested in Florida State offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, a former Auburn assistant coach.
Multiple sources have indicated Auburn is considering Nutt and Fisher. Auburn could name a coach next week. The university accepted Tuberville's resignation Wednesday.

Looking more and more like Leach isn’t going anywhere, but as unpredictable as Leach is, I would relax until this is all said and done….
And to consider Fisher before Leach is absurd.

Don't see Houston Nutt leaving after only one season at Ole Miss.
And I would imagine that his contract there has a similar “No-Compete”clause that Petrino has at Arkansas. Would Jimbo Fisher leave FSU? Bowden can’t possible have more than one more season in him, right?
Leach to Auburn doesn’t make as much sense as Washington to me. Auburn’s season was destroyed by their teams inability to adapt to a spread offense and the fan expectations are absolutely ridiculous. It will be interesting to see if any more jobs open up at the conclusion of the season on Saturday. I hardly think the firing is done.

Yeah, I think his options as of right now are limited to Tech. The DMN said today that while Auburn did guage his interest earlier in the week, they also told Tech last night they are no longer interested in him as a candidate. The SEC would seem to be a sketchy fit, in general. They expect the coaches to play the game of political glad handing and he’s not good at that. Though it could happen.
I would think an ACC/Big East/Pac-10 school would be his most likely destination at some point in the future.

Pac-10 or ACC perhaps, I just can’t see him in the SEC, especially at Auburn. While all SEC fans are delusional, Auburn fans are especially so. He’d be doing himself a disservice by taking that position if it were offered

Yeah…and you think we have issues with OUR administration…whew, I wouldn’t wish Auburn’s situation on anyone.

Anybody hear anything yet?
Any status update on our boy Leach?
I’m ready to start talking football again but that won’t be relevent if we don’t get Leach signed.

Nice
So, Ole Miss gets wind that Houston Nutt could be a candidate for the Auburn job and they get to work immediately on reworking his deal. Tech has known for about 9 months that Leach wanted an extension and barely a ripple of noise over them being close to finalizing anything. And he’s already interviewed with UW…
JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi is working on a contract extension to keep Houston Nutt amid reports he’s a top candidate at Auburn.
Nutt is working out the extension with athletic director Pete Boone and the new deal will be announced as soon as it is complete, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Friday on the condition of anonymity. The person asked not to be identified because an announcement hasn’t been made.
Nutt signed a four-year, $7.4 million contract when he took over at Ole Miss last season after resigning at Arkansas.
The Birmingham News reported that Auburn was looking at Nutt to replace Tommy Tuberville.
Nutt told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal and the Clarion-Ledger of Jackson he has had no contact with Auburn.
