Texas Tech Players talk about BCS

I watched several interviews on the local NBC channel 11 today.

They all acknowledge that they have an outside shot to go BCS bowling which is the Fiesta.

Thus the sports broadcaster for NBC channel 11 understands  and the Players at Tech understand that they have a shot! Not much of one but a shot none the less.

Hopefully, I will get the NCAA letter to show everyone that Tech has a shot officially Monday should Texas get picked on Sunday after the final regular season BCS rankings come out.

This is contrary to the what everyone is thinking.  Right now, there are people here in this board who are so Anti Tech to say that Tech has a zero chance at a BCS bowl. Yet, the Texas Tech Football office says they do have a chance.

I think Leach and the players on the Team know more than a few lack luster fans about what is possible and what is not!

Let Tech go all the way to the BCS!

Because should Oklahoma lose to Missouri, then Texas goes to the NCG and Missouri goes to the Fiesta. Thus if Missouri wins, Tech has a zero shot at the BCS!

If Oklahoma wins, Tech has a chance no matter how small against a Big Money old boy network school!

Except the NCAA Doesn't Control the BCS

and doesn’t have anything to do with which teams play in which bowl games. It is privately run. Here is a link from the Knight Commission Report that describes the history of the BCS:

Here is a nice description of the history of the BCS

Thus, the NCAA’s involvement in football postseason governance has been limited to certifying the postseason bowl contests in accordance with criteria that focus primarily on various financial considerations.

The perfect storm scenario.

Alabama cannot fall further than the 3rd spot/4th after the loss to Florida.

USC must jump above UT into the 3rd or 4th slot based on a 28-7 win against UCLA. I’m not sure this would be possible without active voter collusion, considering the minimal computer bump they will receive.

This would push UT into the 5th slot and out of automatic qualification.

Oklahoma must also win and take the conference champion autobid.

The Fiesta bowl must choose 7th BCS ranked Tech over 5th BCS ranked Texas.

This is not an impossible series of events, merely indescribably improbable.

And another one

In actuality, the NCAA wiped its hands of I-A postseason football long ago. The 28 I-A bowls are owned and run by private organizations. The BCS oversees the Orange, Fiesta, Sugar and Rose bowls, which takes turns hosting the national title game. That’s not to say the organization should be absolved of this mess. But since the bowl system took off in the 1950s, NCAA folks have rolled over and let the bowl representatives and sunny Chamber of Commerce-types run the postseason football show.

And one more from the NCAA

What is the Bowl Championship Series?
The Bowl Championship Series was created independently of the NCAA in 1998 with the goal of matching the nation’s top two teams from the Football Bowl Subdivision in a national championship game. Many falsely believe the NCAA runs the BCS.

If the NCAA doesn’t run the BCS, who does?
The BCS is managed by the commissioners of the 11 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) conferences, the director of athletics at the University of Notre Dame and respective bowl representatives. Their decisions are subject to the approval of a presidential oversight committee whose members represent all FBS programs.

Jeff

I sent my email to the presidential NCAA oversight committee which rules on BCS issues and oversees some aspects of the BCS.

The BCS and the NCAA are run basically by the same people. Mainly conference presidents and their subcommittees.
