Heisman

Watching Monday Night football and they flashed a commercial for the Heisman trophy presentation show.  The only people mentioned on this particular commercial were Harrell, Bradford, Tebow and McCoy.  But, apparently that seems to mean that Harrell is a finalist.

GO TECH!

They've been showing the same commercial all weekend

Votes don’t close until Wednesday but it is likely he is top 4 and expected to be invited to NY for Saturday

1] TEBOW or BRADFORD 3] MC COY 4] HARRELL —with a win or a close loss at OU would have probably won,,or close 2nd

Bradford
McCoy
Tebow
Harrell

Crabtree.

I’m guessing that Crabs will finish 5th but will be far enough behind that he won’t get the ceremony invite. They can invite up to 6 players, but have never brought more than 4. Tebow was going to be at the ceremony anyway, so I say he should give up his spot to Crabtree anyway.

I'll physically puke

if Tech92 is right. Colt and Graham had the Perfect Heisman face-off and after Colt lead his team down the field, Graham put on a clinic. Hope if Graham can’t winit, Sam wins and takes that as a sign he needs to go to better hunting grounds next year.

Yeah

I am not really excited to see that as the outcome, but I think that’s what will happen. Bradford and Tebow did get the final opportunity to impress voters, but from what I read voters feel McCoy meant more to his team’s success than any other player on the list. Texas had almost no running game most of the year and his receivers were unproven for the most part – this was SUPPOSED to be a reloading year for the Horns.

Or at least that is the perception out there.

Plano, didn't Colt and Sam have the same "Perfect Heisman Face-Off?"

And didn’t Colt put on a clinic and lead his team to a masterful fourth quarter win while Bradford was completely shut down in the fourth quarter?

Yes, he is great and think he's a fine young man

And Colt would be deserving of anything he is awarded. I just happen to be looking at it from a TTU grads eyes. That’s why I didn’t post this on the UT board. If you want to have the three-way stuff again, Tebow’s cocky arse gets it by default. I don’t see it from UT’s perspective because I hate all that is UT, probably just the result of growing up a West-Central Texas rancher’s son, who went to Tech, then A&M for grad school as my father before me. You don’t know how much I wish Tech and A&M were the ones going to all of these great bowls. You don’t know how much it hurts to see things not go your way time and time again because you chose UT either for your education or as the team you root for. You already have at least 2 of those pretty little stiff-arm trophies that I know of on display in your Temple to Sports. And you get to go straight from watching a great football team to watching a top 10 basketball team, and by the time your baseball team is finished, they’ll already have preseason rankings out and they’ll be in love with Texas and Colt all over again. I just would like to see us have a Heisman to put in our little portable building we use to showcase our tradition for recruits. I said it would make me puke because it does hit a nerve. You take a kid from our part of the world and he wins the trophy I believe our kid deserves. Then you take another kid who we have that is the best reciever in the nation, and your coach has to point out for everybody else that the only reason the kid is at Tech is because UT didn’t want him. This is the one place I have to be with other Techsans and I was not writing that comment as a hot sports opinion, having been prepared to back-it-up. You’re probably right. Colt beat Sam, but the way I look at things, Graham beat Colt.

Crabtree and Harrell have one commom problem – they play for Tech, which means they get no respect. Put a big T or O on their hats and they lead the voting. Screw those homers on the committees.

by TT_ on Dec 9, 2008 9:31 AM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm not so sure about that

I think that could have been true about Tech’s other quarterbacks. They were instantly disregarded as “system qb’s” and their numbers were disregarded. This year, though, Harrell was truly the front runner for two or three weeks late in the year. Colt lost his front-runner status when his team lost to Tech. Harrell lost his front runner status when his team lost to OU. If Graham loses the trophy, it won’t be because he played for Tech, it will be because his team lost that game to Oklahoma.

by the1austin on Dec 9, 2008 1:45 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yep

and the fact that he only had the Baylor game to make it up. Colt benefits from having had a few games to get the loss out of the voter’s mouths. It’s really an award that has lost a lot of its luster in the last few years, though. There are soo many fantastic players this year. It’s a shame that it is given to what people think is the best player on what people think is the best team.

I can’t see how Tebow is considered the best player, though…not this year. Good, even great. The best? Not close, but I think the voters have such a het-crush on him they’ll put him pretty high.

Even in the post-UT games where Harrell was getting lots of good press, he was still not the solid Heisman leader like the talking heads were saying – at least not on the various Heisman-centered sites I saw. He was still battling the ‘system’ label and was locked up with the QBs from the ‘real’ teams. Not to bad-mouth the red-headed kid ,but he’s got a solid 5-star cast to prop him up. Harrell doesn’t.

And the Rocky Mountain News says.....

Yeah the Rocky Mountain News has picked the winner 18 out of the last 21 times and they say it will be………………………..Colt McCoy. I think he gets the Heisman while Tebow and Bradford get the NC game. Harrell will be there and that is great pub for Tech but I hope they invite Crab as that is double the exposure. So not too bad this should be the best finish ever for a Tech player—4th. Wreck’em Tech Keep Leach

It’s all politics, the OU disaster , cost Harrell the heisman and Tech a Bcs bowl.
