Open Recruiting Thread

Here's your open thread on recruiting. Please feel free to comment on recruits as they sign.

Again, after the dust settles and all of the Letters of Intent are signed, sealed and faxed, I'd love to know from you guys, which 5 players are going to have the most impact next year and which 5 players are going to have the most impact in 3 years.

GO RAIDERS . . . AND GIT YOUR GUNS UP!

Askew and Christopher
have signed with Arkansas.

Arky pulled some underhanded stuff today.  Apparently, Lavunce Askew told Arky that he wanted to sign with Tech, so Arky told him they would offer Brian Christopher (good friend and Tech commit) if he signed with them.

We got used.  Askew used us to get Christopher into Arky.

Looks like we are 0-2 with the guys who "committed" on that day (Cooper and Christopher).

Not going back to AR
I don't think we'll be back in Arkansas any time soon.  We spent a lot of time and money there, and went 0-5.

This is still a good class.  We addressed some immediate needs with the DL, got a good RB and QB, and added some depth at DB, LB, OL and WR, and got us a nice kicker.

Not too shabby.  The guys who switched on us would have just been bonuses.

Not a very impressive recruiting class
I would expect a program that is supposedly on the rise would be able to recruit better than this.....

Pat Forde
Forde takes a break from writing his normal set of crap to write this editorial on the football recruiting process:

As far as the Keanon Cooper switcharoo - Stupid! First off, U of M is a commuter school, it's cold, and they're barely a mid-level school in the Big 10.

What is, is. -Col. Charlie Beckwith

Wow
This class is very disappointing overall. It's one of the smallest we've ever had. This does not bode well for a program supposedly on the rise, as walker72 wrote. I believe we had 25 scholarships to give...and we got HOW many?? Yikes...

by Tech92 on Feb 6, 2008 2:56 PM CST   0 recs

Yikes is the word....
I believe at least 3 or 4 of those scholarships are for JUCO players too. Looks like a bunch of 1 and 2 star recruits with the exception of Jeffers.

With the defection of Cooper do we have any top 150 recruits?

by walker72 on Feb 6, 2008 3:02 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

ok maybe a couple more 3 star recruits than that..
but still is this the best an "on the rise" program can do?

Did we out-recruit Baylor at least?

by walker72 on Feb 6, 2008 4:14 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Pretty good.
We only had 18 scholarships(I believe) to give, out of the 16 commits and the transfer of Chris Perry I'm fairly happy with this class.

The five players I think will impact the most next year are:

  1. Brandon Sesay
  2. McKinner Dixon
  3. Broderick Marshall
  4. Jarell Routt
  5. Corneilus "Cornbread" Douglas

sucks
This class is terrible. I really think Tech spent way too much time/money on some big names, and it shows. I hope we didn't let any diamonds in the rough get away while chasing some out of state 5 star.

by ST04 on Feb 6, 2008 5:25 PM CST   0 recs

I'd like
to see where we only had 18 to give. That doesn't sound right to me. We had very few seniors this year and as far as I know, we're not on probation. Did they load up the last two years?

Either way if our avg. class ranking is about 50, that barely puts us in the top 50th percentile. That's crap. That's on Leach. Again.

Let's just hope there's a Welker/Amendola type diamond in the rough in this class. I'm actually pretty shocked this is the best they can do.

by Tech92 on Feb 6, 2008 7:48 PM CST   0 recs

I agree
I think Leach jacking around on not stating that he was staying at Tech, and not giving Ruffin the job at the end of the season really hurt this class. I am trying to be optimistic though. We do tend to find people that noone wants and makes stars out of them. Just look at who was playing in the Super Bowl the other night. Welker was barely picked up by Tech, and look what he became. I know this post sounds like I am flip floping but I do agree that Leach should have atleast pulled in a few more 3-4 stars. I don't really care too much about 5 star players bc they tend to hurt programs too with their egos.

If you have few seniors
you have few people coming off scholarship.

you answered yourself right there.
