Texas Tech Tuesday Morning Notes - Lady Raiders to the WNIT Edition

Double-T Nation News:

In no particular order, DTN's Top Five:

  1. SMQ on whether individual recruiting rankings relate to success.
  2. Mark Cuban still talks about bloggers, but I still haven't seen where anyone has asked the question as to whether or not official Maverick blogger Art Garcia is allowed in the locker room.
  3. Wooo, hooo! Mizzou is climbing up the Fulmer Cup standings. Also in the car, receiver Jeremy Maclin.
  4. Bill Raftery likes to draw onions.
  5. OU's Malcolm Kelly may be dropping out of the first round. Note to draftees: you have to jump through the hoops.

Texas Tech Football:

Big hat-tip to DTN reader Naik2001, it appears that Texas Tech and Oklahoma State have come to terms on a game at the new Dallas Cowboys' stadium for the next 10 years, beginning in 2009. I'm starting to waffle on this issue (taking away a home game v. playing a home game in a great recruiting area and fan base).

Texas Tech Basketball:

Congrats to the Lady Raiders for being selected to play in the WNIT, have a 1st round bye and will play the winner of Prairie View A&M v. Texas State. Make sure and check back with Hyatt who will no doubt have better opinions and info on the game than I ever could.

I had a DTN reader email me yesterday asking if anyone was upset about Pat Knight and Gerald Myers not accepting a bid for the CBI. Personally, it doesn't bother me not to be playing in the CBI, for whatever the reason. I would love to have seen Zeno end his career on a better foot, the freshmen a little more playing time, but given the shortcomings of this team, I'm not convinced that this team can do much more. If it makes anyone feel better, Missouri also declined to play in the CBI, which means that there are no Big 12 teams playing in the CBI.

Over the course of the hiring season for college basketball coaches I thought as candidates are hired for other programs we would ask ourselves how this newly hired coach compares with our very own Pat Knight. I've always been on the side of the fence that PK is an excellent hire, but there's nothing wrong with stiring the fire and asking the questions. Here's a list that we'll watch throughout the season. Jobs that are comparable: LSU, Oregon State, Prividence, and South Carolina.

Texas Tech Baseball:

The baseball team travels to Corpus Christi to take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders tday at 7:00 p.m. There's nothing on the official website, but according to the LAJ, Russ Fornea (1-2, 5.56) will be getting the start. The Red Raiders start a 10 game homestand after traveling to Corpus Christi tonight. Playing at home for a change should help this team immensely.

Okie Lite game
Don't forget that it also takes away a road game in Stillwater...where Tech has not fared very well.  Plus, the $$ pull from 2 neutral games will be far greater than the $$ from 1 home game - $$ spent to get to Stillwater game.  The program is in need of all the $$ it can get right now.
