That's the definition of a bad week. Splitting with New Mexico and getting swept by Kansas, the team that was in the cellar prior to this weekend's series. The lone win came on a shutout by Lorenzo Douglas on Tuesday. In previous weeks I had updated stats for both batters and pitchers, but I thought the thing to see what's going on is to point you to the Big 12 Conference Stats. Last in batting average, second to last in slugging percentage, and next to last in pitching. That's all I want to spend on the negative. This team is really hurting, and it's all over the field (although the Red Raiders have the best fielding club in the Big 12). I'm not sure if Hays and Spencer have enough time to turn it around, and I'm interested to see how this club reacts.

I'd still like to hand out team awards for the week.

Pitcher of the Week: The bullpen. For the most part, the bullpen has been outstanding all year, but this week, they've really done their jobs. Check out their outstanding week:

  • Tuesday: Brian Cloud and James Leverton pitched 4.0 innings giving up 1 hit, 2 walks and striking out 2.
  • Wednesday: Sam Janca, Owen Brolsma, Robert Kilcrease, and Zach Stewart combined to pitch 6.1 innings, giving up 6 hits, 1 run, striking out 6 and walking 4.
  • Friday: On Friday, the bullpen faltered a bit, and the usually infaliable James Leverton had his worst outing of the year. Still, it's hard to fault Leverton for his outstanding work this year.
  • Saturday: Brian Cloud pitched 4.0 innings giving up 1 hit, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Robert Kilcrease pitched 0.1 innings, walking 1 and striking out 1.
  • Sunday: Zach Stewart wasn't great, but he gave the team 2.2 innings, on 3 hits, 2 runs, both earned, walking 2 and striking out none. If you can take any solace in these numbers, Stewart was throwing strikes, 26 of 45 pitches.

Hitter of the Week: Joey Kenworthy. At the top of the order (every game except for Sunday where he was hitting 3rd in the lineup), Kenworthy was 9 for 20 (.450) with 3 RBI for the week. Kenworthy was certainly getting on base and he was putting the ball in play, which is probably part of the reason why he was moved to 3rd in the lineup.
