Shannon Woods - Starting RB

I can't help but pull for Shannon Woods with all of my heart.  Obviously he has not been on Leach's good side and that is between him and Leach.  I commend Leach for setting the bar for discipline within this OUTSTANDING program.  I remember seeing Shannon Woods when he was backing up Taurean Henderson knowing he would be a Raider Great.  Let's not forget the most under-rated play arguably in Red Raider history where Woods made a key block at the end of the game giving Graham Harrell the extra SPLIT SECOND to find Robert Johnson in the end zone for the HUGE VICTORY over A&M in 2006.  The play was unbelievable, but not too many commmented on the block by Woods....

Harrell also looks much more confident when he has Woods on the flat if in danger.

Shannon, I am pulling for you this year!  MAKE IT HAPPEN!  We need you on the field.

PS:  I realize the experts have us 3rd in the South and a dark horse in the overall Big 12, but is it too early to start talking BCS?  C'mon, it is a DEFINITE possibility!

I gotta believe
that the best back will get the majority of the playing time at running back next year.  There will be no playing favorites or seniority issues when it comes to this group of players.  We have 4 legitimate starters at the RB position and I think it is anyone's job to take at this point.

All the reports said that Woods reallly impressed in Spring Ball, and I hope he can hold it together and play a big role in what looks to be a historical season for our Red Raiders.

I have always liked Woods, he plays with a swagger, but I feel confident that the best players will see the field this season.  Last season, the coaches claimed that Baron Batch (who was then healthy) was the "best running back on campus" but they didn't want to burn his redshirt so late in the season.  We don't really know much about Batch other than he is extremely talented but has had some injury problems.  Then a guy like Aaron Crawford steps in as a true freshman and does a very respectable job as the starter for the second half of last season.  Kobey Lewis will probably always be a situational back, but that is what he does best.

Who knows, maybe even Harrison Jeffers will come in and compete for some playing time.  After all, he is probably the highest rated RB that Leach has signed since he has been here.  All I know is that I am excited about the season, and may the best man win!!

I'd also
add that Woods, Batch and Crawford will all see carries this year and I'd imagine that Jeffers is redshirted, just because there's too much talent to see it wasted for minimal playing time. I'd love to see Woods and Batch returning kicks, I think that could be pretty interesting.

Overall, I agree, the depth will create competition and competition usually breeds success.
