Texas Tech Monday Morning Baseball Notes - Tough Day Edition

Texas Tech Baseball:

Date Texas Tech Oklahoma Result
Fri. 04/25/08 @ 6:05 p.m. 7 (L: Zach Stewart, 2-2) 12 (W: Andrew Doyle, 6-3) Boxscore
Sat. 04/26/08 @ 2:00 p.m. 6 (W: Chad Bettis, 4-3) 2 (L: Jeremy Erben, 1-1) Boxscore
Sun. 04/27/08 @ 1:00 p.m. 2 (L: Brian Cloud, 1-2) 3 (W: Chase Anderson, 4-3) Boxscore

It's probably not a popular thing to do, but I'm going to consider Sunday's 3-2 loss to OU a good loss. Yes, the offense went to sleep again, but Nate Karns really pitched well. I know, this makes me a bad sports fan, but Karns has been really bad for the most of the year and he finally had a pretty good outing. Karns pitched 4.1 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, none earned, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Brian Cloud came on in relief, getting the loss, with 3.0 innings, 2 hits 1 run, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout. James Leverton did not give up a hit, walked only 1, and struck out 3 in 1.2 innings of relief.

Chris Richburg and Monk Kreder had the team's only 2 RBI, while Joey Kenworthy also went 2-4 for the day.

LAJ's George Wattson (no permament URL) recaps the game, but most importantly notes that Texas Tech now needs some help to make the Big 12 Tournament:

Now, Tech must hope for some help. With just two series remaining -- taking off next weekend for finals -- the Red Raiders have put themselves pretty much in position to need to sweep from here on out to hope for one of the top eight seeds in the Big 12 Tournament. But that will have to come against an Oklahoma State club sitting squarely in third place and a Baylor team hovering around .500. Plus, Tech has now lost tiebreakers to both Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma, further advancing the movement toward missing the tournament for the second straight year.

Reliever Brian Cloud is staying positive:

"It was a tough day," said reliever Brian Cloud (1-2), who took the loss despite allowing just one run on two hits over three innings. "We battled hard and were right there at the end of the game, just a few more plays go our way and we walk away with a victory. But we've got to rebound. We still have six conference games left and we have a chance at the end. We just need to keep our heads up and forget about it."
