Olin Buchanan has his early top 10 Heisman candidates and Crabtree is his number six candidate. No Graham Harrell? Olin did include a disclaimer that only one player per team was included.

6. Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

BUZZ: There may be no better player in the country. Certainly, none is more productive. In his debut season in 2007, Crabtree had at least nine catches in 10 games and scored at least one touchdown in 10 games. He set numerous national freshman records in posting 134 catches for 1,962 yards and 22 touchdowns. And get this - his coaches say he improved this spring. The problem is that no receiver has won the Heisman without also returning kicks, which Crabtree doesn't do. Well, not yet, anyway. Coach Mike Leach says that could happen.

He won't be a legit Heisman candidate. They don't usually reward passing system QBs; it's still viewed as gimicky unless they can run like the wind, as well.

I have to disagree

with you on that....

Last year before the Mizzou and Colorado games, Harrell was getting legit Heisman love and even, and if he builds on his performance last season and leads us to 10, 11 or more games, I believe that his name will be in the thick of things.

Colt Brennan was all the hype last season until he started sucking it up against crap competition. There isn't much more of a system QB than Brennan was.

I expect Harrell to be right in the thick of things once the season starts. Nobody will unseat Tebow, but many will try.

with liquidsmoke. If Brennan and Daniel were legit candidates, then Harrell can be as well. He's got to improve though and not have a midseason slump peppered with INT's.

I'd rather...

...hope that you be more right than me on this, but I doubt he'll get the love. Those voters have a memory and I would be willing to bet many of them see Harrell as they saw Brennan. A good QB, but living in the shotgun and never really throwing the ball downfield much. It's not a fair assessment, but I think that's how many people see the Tech offense - that and they often really struggle to score versus good teams. I think Harrell has adequate arm strength, but I've never seen him as the best player on the team, much less the nation.

Tebow is a freak and we can pretty much agree, I think, that if he has another good year it's his to lose. Again, though, I don't see Tech winning 10 games and that will be a factor working against Harrell since Tech isn't a power school in most people's eyes - that's why Tebow could win on team with less than 10 wins.

Tech can usually be counted on to lay an egg versus someone they should beat and the QB gets a lot of the blame in that case. Happens every year, and I don't see them beating UT and OU in the same year. I fear a loss against either Nebraska, Kansas, A&M (sort of...it seems they're due against us at some point...same could be said for us vs. UT), or even OSU - or possibly two of those teams on top of a loss to either OU or UT. Tech is much improved defensively, but the offense worries me this year for some odd reason. It shouldn't because of the experience factor, but it does. Several other teams in the conference look to be a much improved as well, which can't be overlooked.

We've been pretty much free of a major injury to our key skill players for most of the last few years, I think. Will that be the thing that rears its ugly head? Man, I hope not. I just get a weird feeling about the 2008 season.

I will say that it is my full hope and desire that in mid-January, I can come on here and eat a massive plate of crow. Nothing would make me happier than a 10-2 or 11-1 season with a major bowl win and Tech Heisman winner.
