Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Texas Tech running back Kobey Lewis and safety Steven Harris have both been suspended for the 2008 season, Tech head coach Mike Leach said Tuesday.

Leach said they were disciplined for violating team rules, but said he wasn’t free to elaborate.

"I’m not really allowed to say because of the whole privacy act and that business,’’ he said. "Long story short, they’re both suspended and don’t expect them back anytime soon.’’

CRAP!!!

This really sucks! I mean neither of these guys were going to be starters, but Lewis was our 3rd down back, and the guy we used for screen passes. He was our “change of pace” back, and there was definately some playing time for him. Harris was a special teams ACE and though he would probably not have seen the field at safety this year due to us having 6 seniors, he was going to be a key as early as next season.

I really hope these suspensions are not permanent. Hopefully both of these guys can get their heads on straight and get back in good graces with Leach and the team.

Joey Fowler was arrested sometime early in the morning for DWI. I have to wonder if the incidents were related.

After all is said and done, more is said than done.

I haven't

seen that confirmed anywhere, is that true?

Jeez...

Coach Leach is a ball-buster.

I don’t think we’re necessarily downgraded at RB, sicne we, hopefully, have Shannon Woods back.

My question to Lewis… how can you not look at what happened to Woods last year and not realize that Leach is impatient with violations?

Go register. Or else.

You would think that everyone would realize that Leach means business and secondly, if this is going to be Texas Tech’s year, he isn’t going to screw things up by having guys on the team who may cloud what we hope is a tremendous year.

A running back rotation of Woods, Batch and Crawford will be fine.

I’m guessing this was either a drug-bust, public intoxication, or a weight room fight. Haven’t seen any charges pressed, so i’m guessing weight room fight.

If charges are pressed for Fowler’s DWI, then I would expect a bit of a suspension, but I think that most of the time, Leach overlooks minor, first time offenses.

Rumor I heard

From what I understand, Harris was involved in an armed home invasion a while back.

I’m not sure who was with him, but a good friend of mine got jacked by Harris and associates.

I heard it was under investigation by LPD, but I just assumed they blew it off.

I think that a lack of discipline has held Tech back in the past; maybe now that Leach has become stricter the team will stay focused on football. I have a feeling that if they’re both suspended for entire 2008 season; this was a little more serious than a violation of team rules or a weight room brawl.

It is unfortunate anytime you lose a player for whatever reason but if Tech ever had enough depth to compensate for the loss, it’s this year.

I don't know

anything for sure, but I am pretty sure that it was more serious than a weight room brawl, etc. I am pretty sure it wasn’t an issue with grades. However, I have seen some hints to drug abuse as to the reason why these two are no longer with the team. This isn’t confirmed, just something I have come across.

It really sucks to lose players, especially players who I thought had a pretty good reputation. I don’t know if there will be a noticeable difference in the team due to these guys’ loss, but it sucks to lose players nonetheless. Hopefully we can move on without skipping a beat, but I wish Kobey and Steven the best and hope they can get things together.
