Double-T Nation News:
I'm officially on holiday. That's right, I'm headed to the great Smokey Mountains and other points of interest in Tennessee and perhaps Georgia (plans are pending). I'll be posting sporadically through the week, but I'm not promising anything. I've got a couple of posts scheduled for next week that are already ready to go.
This post is going to serve two purposes.
- What do you want out of DTN? Do you have any research projects, ideas for articles, things you'd like to see discussed on DTN? Consider this an open thread and leave comments on things that you'd like to see out of me in the next two months. I plan on coming back energized and ready to go, but I'd love to hear some feedback from you guys on what you want to read on DTN. Of course I don't want anyone to feel bashful and if you see something that piques your interest, then throw up a FanPost and pontificate. I'll throw it up on the front page and we'll all discuss.
- This leads me to my next thought which is since I'm going to be away, I want to lean on the readers of DTN for content. I'll be close enough to a computer that I'll be able to promote FanPosts and FanShots to the front page as you guys write them. For example, we know that there's going to be a baseball press conference today at noon. I'm sure that we can all guess that Dan Spencer will be announced as the new baseball coach of Texas Tech, but I'd love for one of you guys to give the readers of DTN some feedback or your thoughts on Spencer. Also keep in mind that if you read something that you like, you can "recommend" it. In fact you can recommend almost anything, whether it be a Story, a comment, a FanPost, or a FanShot. You'll note that kayakyakr's FanPost, "Another TTU 2008 preseason look" has a "1 recs" at the bottom of the post. That was me who recommended his work because I thought it was well written and there was quite a bit of thought and work that went into the post. You can recommend something and once there are 4 or 5 recs for a particular FanPost or FanShot, there will be a category of Recommended FanPost and Recommended FanShots that will go to the top of that list rather than the order they were written.
The long and short of it is that I hope you guys keep this thing up while I'm out of pocket. Have fun and waste those precious hours at work for the good of DTN.
Texas Tech Football:
RaiderAde has a preview of Dave Campbell's Texas Football, which will prominently feature Mr. Crabtree, Graham Harrell and Captain Leach on the cover. I should also point out that DTN reader BMAXW emailed me and let me know that the coverage doesn't stop with the cover, but there will also be an Fox Sports Net special @ 10:0p p.m. on Saturday June 14th (yes tomorrow and make sure and set your Tivo's) called Under the Lights: The making of the 2008 DCTF cover:
FSN Southwest to unveil 2008 Dave Campbell's Texas Football cover06/10/2008
It won't hit newsstands until June 16th, but readers around the state can get a sneak peek at the cover of the 2008 Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine.
At 10 p.m. Saturday, June 14th, FSN Southwest will air Under the Lights: The making of the 2008 DCTF cover. The show takes a behind-the-scenes look at the cover photoshoot, as well as break down several staples of the magazine, including the Reebok Super Team, college football Top 25, and offer interviews with the staff of DCTF.
The program will re-air the following day at 1:30 p.m., as well as Monday, June 16th, again at 10 p.m.
This year's edition marks the 49th consecutive summer that DCTF has previewed all levels of football in Texas, from the 6-man ranks of high school football up to the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.
The magazine will be available at your favorite newsstand starting Monday, June 16th. The 2008 DCTF is also available for pre-order by clicking here.
[Note by Seth C, 06/13/08 7:10 AM CDT ] Wanted to update this, Fox34 has some footage of the magazine and cover (it's so strange to give a magazine some much publicity, but when was the last time DCTF had an all-Texas Tech cover?)
I've been meaning to post this for a while, but Phil Steele has included some of your Red Raiders on his All-American teams:
Congrats to Mr. Crabtree and Louis Vasquez for the well deserved honor.
I don't play fantasy college football, but Mr. Crabtree is the #1 ranked fantasy receiver according to Rotoworld, while Eric Morris is the #31 fantasy receiver (hat-tip to raiderintherough).
[Note by Seth C, 06/13/08 7:14 AM CDT ] Another update, Tech Talk's Robert Giovanetti and Chris Level talk about the suspensions of Kobey Lewis and Steven Harris.
Texas Tech Track:
Here's a nice update from the LAJ on the men at the NCAA Championships, including the following:
Rodney Mims, Tim Foster, Shawon Harris and Gil Roberts won the first heat in the 1,600-meter relay. The Red Raiders' time of 3 minutes, 4.37 seconds was the second fastest in the three heats, trailing only Texas A&M's mark of 3:04.17.The Tech men advance to Saturday's final.
Harris also qualified for today's semifinals in the 110 hurdles after finishing second in his heat and sixth overall at 13.62.
Teammate Omo Osaghae, competing in his first NCAA Championships, also advanced in the 110 hurdles after setting a personal best at 13.69. His previous best was 13.87.
Sally Kipyego (1,500) and Patience Knight (shot put) also advanced. Send some good mojo to Des Moines, Iowa as Kipyego will race in the 5,000, D'Andra Carter will throw in the discus and Irene Kimaiyo will also race in the 3,000 steeplechase.
