Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Friendswood Quarterback Jacob Karam has decided his college choice. Karam, who has thrown for over 4,500 yards and 46 touchdowns in the past two seasons announced his choice with KPRC Sports and VYPE, High School Sports the Magazine on Monday.

Karam, after vistiing a camp this past weekend, has decided to play for Mike Leach at Texas Tech.

"It was just a great fit as far as the offense goes," said Karam. " I am really looking forward to getting up there in Lubbock next fall and be a part of Coach Leach's program where they throw the ball 50-60 times a game.

Karam had a dozen offers from programs all over the country including the University of Houston where new Cougars head coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff make a strong push. Missouri and Arizona were also serious contenders for Karam's services.

Congrats

Great pick up guys. Kid is going to be a baller. I have no doubt that OU would have offered him but he just wasn’t going to wait and I don’t blame him. You got a good one.

good pick

I don’t know much about him other than what I found online, but he is a 4 star recruit, and hopefully he will pan out when he gets his shot at the starting job. He also has some decent speed, so maybe he can make plays outside the pocket.

WR

Now we need to get some 4star wrs that want to catch 50-60 passes

No kidding!!

It seems that we can get fairly good quarterbacks that Leach wants every single year, but what is the deal with WR’s not wanting to come here???

If Crabtree’s season last year and this coming year don’t convince top WR recruits to come to Tech, then nothing will. I thought surely with the season Crabtree had last year, we would literally have to turn away top WR’s that wanted to come here. Not even close!! We got a really good one in Aaron Fisher, and we are still in the running for some big-time guys, but I really thought we would have much better success in recruiting that area.

Huh...

I think all it will take to start getting a good WR pipeline going is for Crabtree or other very recent Tech grad to have success in the NFL . Welker could be argued, but he left Tech about 5 years ago and he wasn’t a big name when he was at Tech, so most people outside of Lubbock knew much about him. Certainly, he wasn’t getting any awards pub.

Top-flight recruits want to go somewhere that offers the chance for success in the NFL. Admittedly, Tech has not fared well with athletes in the NFL except for a very small number of players (Thomas and Welker).

If the kids looking at colleges today see Crabtree dominate again this year, then go on and catch fire in the NFL, I think we’ll see the slow trickle of WRs begin. It took this long for top level QBs to look at Tech and we’ve been putting up eye popping numbers for 8 years. It’s only a matter of time.

Yeah,

that makes sense, Tech92.

One thing that is encouraging is the overall upgrade in talent level that Tech has had since Leach took over. I remember back a few years ago when Antonio Huffman, Brock Stratton, and Vincent Meeks were forced into starting roles as true freshmen. They were starters from day 1 because they were a talent upgrade from older players on the roster. They ended up having solid careers, but it’s nice to see more strength, speed, and athleticism out on the field rather than overmatched players getting constantly burned. I don’t think there are many true freshmen that will see the field now (except for kicker Donnie Carona). If a true freshman were to see the field at Tech now, they would have to be a serious football player. This is also good because it allows us to redshirt good players to ensure that they will be ready by the time they are needed.

I agree

I wish the NCAA would just say, okay, you have five years of eligibility to erase the worry of redshirt burning. It is SUCH a leap from high school to major division I competition that only the elite can survive as freshmen. And even if they have the physical tools, I like the idea of letting a freshman get used to the whole major college environment and make the mental adjustment before being asked to contribute. But sometimes, that gem comes along that makes you throw conventional wisdom out the door.

Schedule

Really? All of our games except the aTm game are at night this year? Coolness!! Nothing is more fun than night games at the Jones!

p.s. I hate that I have post 75 words to add a new thread…

try starting up a conversational fanshot. it’s not quite as neat as a fan-post, but it gets the job done.
