Community Projections: Edward Britton
Up Next: Edward Britton (6-0/177) / #27 / WR / Junior
The Facts: In 13 games last year Britton caught 48 passes for 631 yards and 4 touchdowns. Britton was second behind Crabtree in yards per catch (Crabtree's 14.64 compared to Britton's 13.15) with more than 30 receptions. Britton was 4th on the team in receptions, 18 receptions ahead of Grant Walker.
What I Think: I've always liked Britton and felt that he adds something that this offense doesn't have, which is a deep sideline threat. Britton was plagued by dropped passes, and although I don't have verifiable proof otherwise, I've felt that Britton was better late in the year in terms of holding onto the ball. Perhaps Britton's biggest flaw, even bigger than the drops, is consistency. To be truly elite he has to eliminate the drops, but he also has to figure out how to get open on a more consistent basis. Here's Britton's catch totals for each game: 2, 3, 2, 6, 2 , 1, 3, 2, 7, 5, 7, 3, 5. That's a 3.7 receptions per game average, and I keep thinking that Britton is better than that. Britton is capable of more than 3.7 receptions per game.

Big year for Edward
I think Edward could have a huge year because a lot of defenses will be looking to stop Crabtree. Tech just has too many offensive weapons and Britton will benefit if defenses key on Michael.

If Britton
can control the drops and really work to get open, then he can be quite a player. I’ve always loved the idea of a former running back at receiver, he should be better in open space and have the ability to break some tackles.

Edward Britton
Britton has sprinter’s speed and is a tough player. He’s the best blocker of the receivers and has the tools to excel. He must eliminate drops. If he can learn to catch the ball first, the sky’s the limit. Britton gained more than 2000 yards per year in both his junior and senior years and averaged about eight yards per carry. He was not overused by his coach; in fact, as an “opposing fan”, I was amazed and thankful he was underused. There is no reason why Britton can’t be a 1000 yard receiver. I f he catches sixty or more balls, I predict he will be.

2nd receiver
I think that britton, if he can get rid of the drops, will be the #2 option for harrell. If he can establish himself as a playmaker early in the season, I can see a situation where leach calls some set plays to try to feed him the ball later in the season, more, perhaps, than plays called for crabtree (crabs will still get a whole hell of a lot more balls thrown his way, they’ll just be part of the normal play while britton will be fed more screens and outs and gadget plays).
But that’s all centered on britton proving that he can be a consistent catcher and player early in the year. Otherwise we’ll see a deep TD with britton streaking along the sideline 2-3 times for the year and have an otherwise quiet receiver.
if he doesn’t show something, Leong and Walker may see the field more in his place.
