Longhorns must show fire
This article by Pete Fiutak with Fox Sports is an overview of Texas Longhorn football program and 2008 predictions. I don’t have time to comment but I will list a couple of things I found interesting. By the way, interesting doesn’t mean I agree with them. This article is definitely worth reading. What are your thoughts?
Texas players are currently known for being ridiculously talented — there's an NFL farm system in Austin — and for good and bad, for having brains, or at least for being more pensive than your average college football meathead.
Does any big-time program have as many big-time talents sticking around for their senior seasons? While that's admirable, and we'd all like it if everyone stayed in school until their eligibility was up, it questions whether or not Texas cranks out killers.
Texas Tech will be nasty and traveling to Lawrence to face Kansas isn't like it used to be.
Best Offensive Player: Junior QB Colt McCoy. It's easy to get swept aside in a year when Missouri's Chase Daniel becomes a Heisman finalist, Oklahoma's Sam Bradford leads the nation in passing efficiency, Texas Tech's Graham Harrell puts up ridiculous numbers, and Todd Reesing of Kansas becomes a national breakout star, but McCoy, outside of his 18 interceptions, deserved more attention after throwing for 3,303 yards with 22 scores, while running more than usual with 492 yards and four touchdowns.
The season will be a success if ... Texas wins the Big 12 South. This year, just winning the division, much less the conference, will be a monumental achievement considering Oklahoma is national-title good, Texas Tech has a loaded team that might be its best ever, and Oklahoma State and Texas A&M should be improved.
Conducting the show is the underappreciated Colt McCoy, who's one of the Big 12's better quarterbacks but gets lost in the shuffle.

The Texas Longhorns
are without a doubt a team to be concerned about this year. The fans and media here in Austin have a strong expectation that “Mac” will get them another national championship. They hate Oklahoma and EXPECT a win every year. They totally look down their noses at Tech and the rest of the south division of the Big-12. They ignore any prognostications placing any Big-12 north team in a similar category as them. They are, in one HUGE word, “ARROGANT!” That being said, they do have a great amount of talent because Mac is a great harvester of talent. But if you consider the talent he had, has and will continue to get, he is woefully short of the attaining level of success he should be having. This says to me that he is simply not the calibre of coach everyone in Austin THINKS he is. They will win many games with talent alone, thus they are dangerous any given gameday. Mike Leach on the other hand has matured as a coach and a harvester of talent and they are about to surprise many teams not ready for this step up in talent. Tech is going to force Texas, Oklahoma and all other Big-12 teams to respect them as they do any other TOP LINE program. This year in particular will set the tone for future endeavers. Despite the talent overload in Austin, OK City and all other big time school locations, Texas Tech is joining the group, starting with lesser talent, better coaching and increasing positively with both.

That’s trash. One of the better quarterbacks in the Big XII? Yeah, behind Daniel, Harrell, Reesing and Bradford, and about on the same level as Cody Hawkins and Zac Robinson. So if “better” means “better than some,” then yeah. But if “better” means “one of the best,” that guy needs to watch some games.
And Texas players are “pensive?” Really? I hadn’t realized DUI’s and B&Es counted as “pensive.”
This quote really got me laughing: ”... McCoy, outside of his 18 interceptions, deserved more attention after throwing for 3,303 yards with 22 scores, while running more than usual with 492 yards and four touchdowns.”
Yeah! Man, he was great once you take out all his interceptions! Geez, you can say that about any quarterback. That’s ridiculous. “Other than the assassination of President Lincoln, I thought the play went well,” is a congruent statement.
After all is said and done, more is said than done.
