BlogPoll - Initial Draft
I wanted to go ahead and get out the first draft of DTN's inaugural BlogPoll ballot (it's due on August 18th). I've always like the way that Kyle elicits feedback from his readers as to why teams should be ranked where they are. Personally, I want as much feedback as possible. I've never done this before and I think that if this can somewhat be a community effort then I've done my job.
For those of you wondering what is the BlogPoll, well, Rock M Nation has your answers in terms of definition and how to vote. Brian offered additional thoughts on voting methodology as well. Just to be clear here I'm still not sure which method I've ranked these teams, I've probably used Method 2, the Power Poll, because no one has played a down and without any current statistics or resumes, there's not much to give you a rational, other than I think Team A is better than Team B. After week 1, I think I'll merge into a resume based methodology.
1. Ohio State
2. USC
3. Georgia
4. Missouri
5. Florida
6. Oklahoma
7. West Virginia
8. Clemson
9. Auburn
10. LSU
11. Wisconsin
12. Texas Tech
13. Penn State
14. Texas
15. South Florida
16. Arizona State
17. BYU
18. Oregon
19. Virginia Tech
20. Wake Forest
21. Kansas
22. Michigan
23. Tennessee
24. Illinois
25. Utah
Comments and criticisms are welcome. I will say this, that trying to put a little bit of thought into the entire process is difficult and at times, especially now, choosing one team over another is probably personal bias seeping into the thought process.
I'll steal a bit from BON and attach a poll as to who you think is the #1 team in the nation.

Georgia’s my #1 until they lose in the SEC. It just feels like they have that aura of being the team that the SEC will spit out for the NC game this year.
I’d reverse USC and Ohio State since I think OSU is going to lose their early season matchup and also OU and Missouri.
Auburn, LSU, and Penn State all seem a bit high, though I don’t know where I’d rather see them (since it pushes our own ranking higher than i think we deserve). Kansas seems a bit low: I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until they screw up. And Michigan wouldn’t even come close to peaking into my top 25.
Not bad otherwise.

If I had
done this last week, Georgia would have been my #1. Just a lot of serious injuries lately. I’d agree about the Auburn, LSU and Penn State. They do all seem high, and all of those teams are bringing in a new quarterback, they all haven’t decided on a QB, and I’m thinking that they will all struggle to score, but they all have really good defenses.
Good comments and by the voting I’m thinking that everyone else likes Georgia as well.

Michigan that high?
I think they’ve got too many question marks with lost players(Henne, Long, Hart) to rank them right off the bat.

I thought the same thing
going into this deal, but then I was having to decide whether or not Fresno State, Alabama, South Carolina, etc. are better than Michigan. I went with Michigan because I think they still have quite a bit of talent (I also think they will struggle at first at QB, but I also think they’re going to be a better team than last year) but could be talked out of that one for sure.
