lack of discipline...
worries me. already a 15-yd late hit on Britton and holding on Hamby. really, really need to avoid starting the year off piling up penalty yards like this.
i think b. jenson
said julius howard was blitzing on this last play before the quarter
Go Raiders . . .
mcneill
said before the game that it’s easier to bring guys down (being excited) that to get them up, with all of these penalties, they may want to re-think that.
Go Raiders . . .
it would be nice to see
the team come out a little smarter and a little more inspired. this is not what i expected
Go Raiders . . .
it’s about discipline and only the coaches can teach and enforce that….it seems that they were lacking that in the stupid losses in the past and i don’t see anything that tells me the coaches have done any better of a job….oklahoma is up 50-0 at halftime on chattanooga…guess how many penalty yards for OU?…ZERO…there is no excuse for their performance….good teams don’t have first game jitters and definitely don’t play down to their opponents’ level…we’re seeing both and i blame the coaches for not preparing them properly
you dissing TO’s alma mater? ha
at least they are I-A…EWU, not so much

agreed
and it seems as if it’s riley and britton who are the main culprits on penalties. it’s strange, you would think that there’s enough talent on this team so that you could look across the line of scrimmage and say “this guy isn’t going to beat me”. not sure if it’s the quick defense or what
Go Raiders . . .
shows both 1260 and 1530 should be carrying the game

yeah…14-3 over ARK St…although they gave UT a good game last year

hopefully they’ll drop in the rankings and it will have a humbling effect…don’t know what it will take
would make me even happier if someone had expectations for the aggies

Well, it took a 49 point thrashing by the “best offense in the nation” last year for Leach to finally see the light and can Setincich. Maybe the 200+ yards in penalties we’re probably going to end up with tonight will finally get his attention.
jeremy maclin 99 yd kickoff return for TD…looking much better than chase daniel who threw a screen pass into the chest of a defensive lineman who ran it back for a TD
i thought it
sounded right. those teams are playing for a “football championship” whereas the BCS teams are playing for bowls. seems wrong to just play for bowls, unless it’s for all the marbles.
Go Raiders . . .
You cannot compare
Mizzou playing the Illini to us playing Eastern Washington……this is embarassing……
EWU taking the stop with plays of 18 and 19 yards. Defense seeming to play very poorly after series of the offense doing poorly.
i'm sure we're
all thinking it, but nevada, on the road, who happens to have a really good offense and not so good defense. who’s worried?
Go Raiders . . .
this worries the hell out of me, but a minute over on Texags right now will help anyone feel a little better. They are totally deflated and talking about how they are a basketball school now anyway. He he.
This is the best team
in the history of TTU football? I think not……
We are being exposed as overrated……I can already hear the critics saying “we told you so” about our defense……
And probably one of the most unprepared teams I’ve ever seen in terms of penalties…..what the hell have they been doing at practice?
i don’t know what we can read out of this game. We struggled with penalties, we struggled with blocking. harrell had a few brain farts, and Nichols showed that our pass defense is either very poor or that he is very, very good.
I expect that next week will be very telling. If this continues, then we’ll know that this is not the team we were hoping for, but I don’t think you can go doom and gloom yet.
An FCS team just
ripped us for 335 pass yards…….how ya think OU would do? I’m not saying the season is a wash…..but all that talk about how this is a completely revamped, hard-nose defense needs to be rethought.
must’ve been listening to the game…poor thing…he took it hard

Texas
Tech Red Raiders are in trouble if they do not fix those lapses in concentration—too many penalties, two blocked kicks & a missed field goal, over 300 air yards allowed. This is a win, and that is good. But, if we expect this team to be an elite one, boy! Do they have some work to do this week….and I hope they make Detron and the defensive backs run in sand for about, oh, say 4 days…….plus anyone who had a penalty called on them.
This kind of leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Let us all hope they get it right before conference play begins…
TTpilk
What did you see Detron do wrong?
I don’t think the pass defense was prepared for 61 attempts against. I think they expected EWU to run a lot against them like most teams try to do, and that’s not what happened. They looked like they got tired, which is inexcusable.
The offensive line was terrible, as well, and Vasquez going out isn’t an excuse. They sucked when he was in the game, too.
After all is said and done, more is said than done.
maybe he meant britton…for all the bonehead penalties

On the bright side this was the perfect game to re-align everyone’s understanding of this defensive squad’s ability, because the initial letdown from some pretty lofty expectations didn’t end up being fatal. Against a high-caliber opponent, tonight could have been really ugly. The secondary dissapointed in a big way, more or less re-inforcing the notion from last year that their Big XII-leading stats had less to do with their performance and more to do with teams’ tendency to rush at will against Tech’s front.
333 is the number of passing yards Nichols hung on Tech, almost uniformly with a short game that didn’t look much different from the Air Raid. Against the run, the defense locked down on Morris, a tailback who posted nearly 1000 yards last year in an offense that obviously isn’t geared for ground-pounding: of course, EWU ran the ball only 22 times as a team, and Morris only made 9 carries- it’s still anyone’s guess how this unit is going to hold up against a 1-A bruiser who plans on hitting them in the mouth 20 or more times a game. Henley ended up grabbing a pick and Dixon sacked Nichols once, but that is more or less all the front four can claim in terms of breaking EWU’s passing rhythm. Against a passing team they will have to make plays on the line without linebacking assistance, given the secondary’s apparent inability to squelch a competent pass attack. It’s also worth pointing out that Sesay was an almost complete non-entity: he needs to up his performance.
In a game where the defensive stories were a secondary that couldn’t cover and a front four that couldn’t pressure the QB, the linebackers probably stood out the most with some good plays that ended EWU drives prematurely. Duncan’s interception and sack, along with some clutch coverage by Williams and even a couple notable plays by that new guy from Permian were some of the only defensive moments of the night that helped offset that acidic taste in my mouth that comes right before Tech goes .500 in Big XII conference play.
