Texas Tech Saturday Morning Notes - Eastern Washington Game Day Edition

Double-T Nation News:

It's game-day. Thank goodness. I'm at home for this game (DFW area) and will be listening intently on the radio. It appears that the weather may not cooperate tonight, but let's hope that it does. I've got my fantasy football draft at noon today and the open game day thread goes up around 4:00 p.m.

For those of you who haven't seen the live commenting system here at DTN, it's a thing of beauty because you don't have to refresh your page for comments to show up, they somehow (I think with internet pixie dust) show up automatically, which should make for a lively discussion for those of us who can't be at the game.  I know all of you are out there, so make sure and join the discussion and if you haven't joined DTN, it's free, simple and easy.

Texas Tech Football:

The LAJ came out online with all of their preview material yesterday, so if you're needing to get your Red Raider football fix on a Saturday morning then here you go:

LAJ's Don Williams features running back Baron Batch as he is ready for his comeback from 7 ankle surgeries. Batch is one of my favorite players on the team and so I'm openly cheering for him to succeed, as I am with all of my Red Raiders, but especially with Batch. Good things should happen to good people and I'm convinced that Batch is a good person. Anyway, here's Batch on his maturation:

"Especially my first year up here," the Texas Tech running back said. "First one in the club, last one to leave. Tried to be a player (socially). Tried to have as many girls … Tried it all, and found no satisfaction in any of that.

"I bring that up, because it was the old me," Batch went on. "I did not get any satisfaction out of any of that. It led to a road that brought emptiness."

Now Batch is a changed man.

"I was up in the hospital, I think after my sixth or seventh surgery, and I was (thinking), I need a change. I need some help.’ And those two came and prayed for me," Batch said. "They were like, You need to come to Bible study. Start coming to church.’ And I thought, it’s not going to hurt. That’s where it started. Those two planted that seed. God has been faithful to water it, and it’s just grown, and he’s blessed me abundantly."

LAJ's Don Williams asks if this Texas Tech team can live up to the hype and it sounds as if Texas Tech isn't taking EWU lightly:

"It’s not really a difference," said safety Darcel McBath, one of the eight starters back on Tech’s defense. "They’re good players. They’re just playing at Eastern Washington, and we’re more in the spotlight than they are. They’ve got a lot of really good players. Their offense is a force to be reckoned with."

The weather’s looking good so far. It was supposed to rain all day, but it hasn’t at all yet. There’s a big storm heading up from Mexico, but radar appears to indicate it shouldn’t get here until 10:00 pm at the earliest, if at all.

After all is said and done, more is said than done.
