We don't look as good as we thought

I don't know about you guys but we look awfully sloppy.  We used to tend to business, move the chains, and take advantage of oppurtunities we they made themself available.  It is starting to look like they are trying to make a big play out of every play.  That gets you a lot of 3 and outs, even against some less than stellar teams like we have played.

Hopefully we get a hold on whomever is calling the plays by Kansas St and I hope we never see another QB smeak again.  Harrell isn't a running QB and everyone knows it.  Even in short yard situations.  He will get hurt against a good defense.

If we had not have had all the INT's against SMIU the game would have been pretty close.  Too close.  They were all freshman and sophmores.  Their D line was 100lbs lighter than our offensive line and was getting pressure!  Thats not good.

Not trying to be negative but there is a lot of work that needs to be done before we will be able to play with the big boys.   Hope we get there.

REALLY??

I mean it wasn’t a perfect game but I was pretty pleased how the entire team played tonight (minus the kicking game).

I thought we stalled out on offense the first two drives, but after that the offense was humming. Harrell does tend to go for the big play more this year. I have noticed that he doesn’t look for the short stuff as much this year. I don’t know if he just doesn’t feel as comfortable with Detron Lewis as he did with Amendola or if he just feels like Crabtree will catch every deep ball thrown his way.

If we hadn’t had all the interceptions the game would have been close??? That’s like saying if Harrell hadn’t thrown 5 touchdowns, the game would have been pretty close! The defense played great! The secondary finally redeemed themselves from 2 sub-par games for how talented this group is. Our d-line looks pretty good. There isn’t really a drop off in the level of play when our second unit comes into the game on the d-line….and that is something we have never had under Leach.

SMU recorded the first sack on Harrell of the season! Thats one sack in 3 games. Chill out a little bit. Harrell may not be a scrambling quarterback, but he can buy plenty of time to get his throws off. Plus, Vasquez and Reed have been dinged up. Nothing to worry about here.

Really Ditto

Looking back at the game. Harrell had plenty of time. He actually probably needs to make some decisions quicker. Get Vasquez and Reed healthy we will be fine.

SMU didn’t do squat until the last drive. True Bo Levi made a few bad choices, but 3 of those picks were pretty good plays that turned incompletes into picks. The game wouldn’t have been close if those were incomplete passes instead of picks. I could say Harrell would have had 600 yards passing if those were incompletes.

Tech left some out there

There were about 17 points we should have scored but didn’t for various reasons. But I think the team looked pretty solid. Never once did I get the feeling the game would be close, never once did the crowd ever get antsy (I was there…very enthusiastic crowd considering the opponent).

Nice win. But really, our next quality opponent will be our first quality opponent this year. We’ve played garbage teams (and how dominating does that Mizzou win over Nevada look???) and played like garbage at times. Last night was not one of them, though.

We won’t win the south, I’m positive of that, but we’ll manage to get our normal 8 wins. We really aren’t elite and that will bear out down the road this year. But I’ll enjoy #10 for now.

Not so sure about that

Why are people throwing the team under the Bus right now?

Who is left on the schedule? Of the teams left Texas, OSU and Oklahoma are the only ones that can smack our team right now.

Kansas is overrated. If Tech shows up like they did for the first game and with SMU, we win.

The true tests come from OSU and coming out of a win on the road against a power running team. That has always been a problem and still remains a problem.

I am glad that Ruffin is seeing to the problem by recruiting in some extra large Tackles. All top defenses have defensive tackles between 290 and 320. Think of a Reed on Defense here.

Texas is a game I think we have a good shot at winning. Texas secondary is struggling mightily. Their passing game is not all that but they are winning with the run.

So it boils down to our defense this year. Can we stop the run against the 3 tough running teams.

Yes there is plenty of places to see improvement.

I would like to see our Secondary jam receivers off the line and not give up 15 yards as a freebee to the receivers. That would be an improvement in my book.

But there is no reason 3 games in to throw the team under the BUS. They need to improve and improve they must to be anything in the toughest conference in the nation.

Where Tech is at

I don’t think we’re at a place where Tech can take down Texas or Oklahoma just yet, but give the offense and defense a few weeks of working out the kinks and we should be fine when we start playing the big boys.

I just thank my lucky stars we won’t have to play Missouri in the regular season, although I would like to see how we’d fare against the Tigers.
