Around The Big 12: Week 3

Baylor: Just man-handled a bad Washington State team. Robert Griffin is the truth, the guy can play. I watched quite a bit of this game while flipping between Kansas and S. Florida. Griffin ran, that's right, ran for 217 yards. He's going to be good and Briles is smart to play him early. The Baylor defense limited Washington State to 77 yards on the ground (boxscore). Up Next: Connecticut

Colorado: The Buffaloes were idle this week. Up Next: West Virginia

Iowa State: A pretty ugly game, but the Hawkeyes prevailed. I think this says a little something about Iowa State, as they were able to hold Iowa to 3 points through 3 quarters and allowed an 81 yard punt return for one of the 4th quarter touchdowns. Arnaud completed 61% of his passes, but also threw for 2 picks. Iowa was dreadful passing the ball, and Iowa State limited them to 244 yards total. That's not bad (boxscore). Up Next: UNLV

Kansas: At the beginning of the season I thought for sure that Kansas would be due for a drop-off, but that's not happening. Reesing threw an untimely pick, but I'm pretty impressed with the Jayhawks, to go on the road and beat keep pace with a pretty good South Florida team. The Jayhawk defense gave up 458 yards (338 passing and 120 yards rushing) so the good defensive performances we've seen prior to this game, may not be an indication of how well Kansas will play against Big 12 competition (boxscore). Up Next: Sam Houston St.

Kansas State: The Wildcats were idle this week. Up Next: Louisville

Missouri: Best offense in the Big 12 and probably the country. I'm pretty sure of that. Missouri just took apart a pretty good Nevada team and they made it look easy. Chase Daniel threw for 405 yards and a whopping 14.5 yards per attempt. Nevada did roll up 362 yards, 182 coming on the ground, so there may be a weakness there as we gear up to Big 12 play, but I think I'm just being picky (boxscore). Up Next: Buffalo

Nebraska: A 31 point victory for the Cornhuskers and Joe Ganz did it all, rushing for a touchdown, passing for a touchdown and catching a touchdown. Nebraska did get their ground game going, as Marlon Lucky ran for 103 and 2 TD's, and as a team Nebraska ran for 330 yards. The Blackshirts did show, limiting New Mexico to 225 yards passing on 39 attempts and 114 yards rushing on 32 attempts (boxscore). Up Next: Idle

Oklahoma: The Sooners just dismantled Washington. Sam Bradford was superb, throwing for 304 yards and 5 TD's. OU also had two-one hundred yard rushers with Chris Brown and DeMarco Murrey. Oklahoma also seems to have replaced Malcolm Kelly with Jermaine Gresham and Ryan Broyles. The OU defense held Washington to 49 yards on the ground (boxscore). Up Next: Idle

Oklahoma State: Another dominating performance from OSU. The Cowboys are just running the hell out of the ball, rushing for 450 yards against Missouri State, led by Keith Tolston (148 and 1 TD), Beau Johnson (138 and 2 TD's) and Kendall Hunter (132 and 2 TD's). QB Zach Robinson only had 4 pass attempts for the day, one of those going for a touchdown. Missouri State only had 23 yards passing and 178 yards rushing. I'm interested to see if the OSU defense is really improved (boxscore). Up Next: Idle

Texas: Delayed due to Hurricane Ike. Up Next: Rice

Texas A&M: The Aggies were idle this week. Up Next: Miami (FL)

Around the Big 12 Kansas

FYI Kansas lost and South Florida figured out Reesing can’t throw if he can’t see. So don’t let him out of the pocket.
