WHO WOULD YOU TAKE?

Way too much time on my hands (look in the mirror) so I thought I would come up with this little exercise for all you hot blooded red raider football fans. After a few games.....but just before the real bloodletting starts answer these questions.

From the entire big twelve, which of these would you choose to go to war with once conference play starts.

1. What offense would you put on the field?  Mine would be Mizzou.

2. What defense would you put on the field?  Mine would be Oklahoma

3. What one offensive player is the pre conference mvp?  Can you say Chase Daniels?

4.Who will be the conference offensive mvp?  Sir Mike Crabtree here.

5. Who will be the conference defensive mvp/ OU DT Granger.

6. Who will be the conference newcomer of the year? Baylors Robert Griffin it says here

Bonus question.  Who will be the coach of the year in the conference? I'll go for a good old Texas high school coach in Art Briles of Baylor who will get the Bears four wins on the year.

Let me hear from you.  I'll be in the Hub this weekend.  The only way we get into trouble is if UMass brings their basketball team to play Harrell and Company.  Guns Up Ya'll.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors.

1. What offense would you put on the field? Mine would be Okie-State.

2. What defense would you put on the field? Oklahoma, by far.

3. What one offensive player is the pre conference mvp? I agree, Chase Daniels?

4.Who will be the conference offensive mvp? Chase Daniels, again.

5. Who will be the conference defensive mvp/ Not sure but—-OU DT Granger.

6. Who will be the conference newcomer of the year? No doubt, so far- Robert Griffin.

Bonus question. Who will be the coach of the year in the conference? Baylor will be improved, but the man is…..Bob Stoops.

Tech is left out, unless their head swelling goes down and they start playing the way they are capable.

This is easy

I would take Tech offense
Tech Defense

Revamp the kicking game for Tech’s special teams, then light a fire under their butts so that they have a need to win to get the fire off their butt.

Simply, You are either going to support Tech or swing the axe of destruction against Tech.

Sometimes swinging the axe is the right move sometimes not. It really depends on how good the coaches are as to if I ever pick up the axe. And when I do, It will be to call for the firing of a coach or coaches.

I called for a coach to get fired 3 games and a spring practice ahead of his actually getting fired. You can go back and read my posts from last year. I did swing an Axe for a new DC.

It take approximately 3 to 5 years for a new coach to get his program in place and get the right personnel on the field with his philosophy.

Right now, I am seeing Ruffin making some good choices. Unfortunately, we will not get to see some of those choices for a couple of years.

Tech has always suffered from undersized Defensive players in positions it can not afford to be undersized. Mainly the defensive front 4. Ruffin has gone out of his way to improve this section of the defense.

What most people never understand and still refuse to accept reality is that a team rises or falls with the quality of the linemen they play. On defense this is especially true. You can not have your front 4 being blocked 4 and 15 yards down the field. That is just can not happen.

When you look at past bad defensive performace games, you find that the problem started with the front 4. If the front 4 can not control their areas of responsibility then the total defense fails. What is a secondary if the line can not stop the run? What is a secondary if the line can never pressure the QB.

That is how important linemen are to the defense. the front 4 need to be not just big but also have the attitude of a head hunter who likes to hit and make tackles.

Offensive linemens primary job is protecting the QB through power blocking. They also need to power block holes from the Running back to get positive yards on every down. All offensive linemen should be able to get 1 yard no matter the defense. If they can not get a single yard, then they are not very good linemen.

So I take Texas Tech as they are with a few adjustments and a new approach on lighting a fire under their butt.

Because if our boys play the way they are capable rather than how they think they should play, then there is no better offense in the nation. Defensively, has to rules, attitude and a temperment to want to kill. Size helps but that is normal. Give me some smaller guys with attitude and willingness to go head hunting against a big boys with whimpy attitude and you will see the smaller guys kick but. However, Size does matter when you have two teams with boys with attitude on the field. Bigger and stronger will win out at the end of the day.

We are seeing this first hand for the first time with the higher level of recruits we are getting.

So I take Texas Tech, you can go join OU or Mizzu fan central. Because I believe in our boys with the right attitude and proper coaching!

LIGHTEN UP DUDE!

Good grief! Its just a fun exercise dude! And don’t be telling anybody to go join OU or anybody else. Some of us laced them up for Texas TEch and actually got in the arena. I’m betting you, like most blowhards, never laced em up for anybody higher than your junior high team. Unless you make your living based on how any team does on the field you have no business calling for anybody’s head. Some big man calling for a coach to get fired in years past. . I bet Gerald Myers sat straight up and saluted you! Its always those that never did, who prove what big men they are by screaming at coaches at games or calling for their dismissal on blogs. I must tell you that such blowhards are laughed at by coaches, athletic directors or people who have actually played sports. And those of us that have supported and played at Texas Tech before you were biting on your mama’s tatas tell you to get a few skins on the wall before you open your mouth! Now lay down….dim the lights…..put some ice on those veins popping out of your neck…..and say after me…….THEY COACH AND PLAY…….I SHUT UP! Good boy now try to stay calm until Saturday’s game when you can justify your existence by being smarter than everybody else.

yo, calm your rhetoric brotha-man. You can’t go off on a rant every time someone posts a response to a topic of yours that isn’t quite what you wanted to see.

OK

I live for great discussions…….but I have about had it up to here with "you are with us or you are against us refrains. Its ridiculous to drink your schools kool aid and not appreciate the greatest that surrounds you throughout the college football universe. Thanks.

It’s not the fact that you think that “Its ridiculous to drink your schools kool aid”. That’s fine and, as you can tell in many of my posts, I am a very moderate poster tending to see what could be better with my team rather than what is good.

The problem is that no one here cares if someone gets their rocks off on rampant homerism except you and even that’s ok except that you take that caring too far. Tone it back and everything will be gravy. Keep it up and you’ll be just another ellipsis using poster that most everyone ignores.

Hey, I love the elipsis! Does that mean I’m ignored?? ; )

Easy boys

Play nice in the sandbox or it’s time out for you both : )

Being an optimist with a large smattering of pragmatism, here’s who I take – based on actual peformance, NOT potential (thus, no Tech squads make my list becuase the performace on field is average in relation to potential):

Offense – Mizzou. Hands down the scariest in the nation
Defense – OU. Stout. Stout. Stout.
Conference MVP – Bradford. OU will win the Big XII and that means their QB edges out Maclin/Daniel (no ’s’) at Mizzou
Defensive MVP – Charbonnet. Kidding, but he was huge Sat. Let’s go with Granger since he had all the preseason pub and nobody has played better.
Newcomer – Griffin. This kid will cause major fits for defensive coordinators for the next few years
Coach – Stoops

So sad....

Such hateful words. Does not even know who I am. I have played sports including football. Just not football in college. I played Tennis in College. That was the sport that got me short haul scholarship.

So back off. All I am saying is please do not trash the boys in Red and Black! There is no need for it. If you want to talk about fantasy football, there is a place for that. If you wanted a discussion of fantasy stuff then do it right. NO need to trash talk the Tech players or program because they are not up to your personal standard where they do not deserve any praise until they win the Big12 or the National Championship.

I Only blog for one purpose! Its not really about football in general. Its about bettering the School! Sports is a very visiable portion of bettering the school because it brings in new students, money and attracts higher levels of respect.

Thus I want to see Tech succeed with the end goal of a National Championship. I am not so deluded as to not understand that its a building process. To get to the point that Tech is the best team in the nation takes effort and it takes people to support the program even while it is struggling.

I am 100% behind the program as long as I see progress being made. When I do not see that, I speak up to the people I know in the program and at the university. Some of which are the people who are movers and shakers of Tech sports.

So Forgive me if you felt slighted. But consider it a gental reminder that we as fans have to support the program and not detract from the program by saying you would pick a rival school over our own.

That stinks in my book!

I kind of think you completely missed the entire point and spirit of eddyc’s original post. I also think you are asking for blind support – which most of us give. We’ll all always love Tech. But the support can come with criticism of weaknesses. Did your dad never tell you where you could improve? Of course he did…but he was also your biggest fan (or he should have been). Eddyc was asking, in a VERY hypotheical sense, which of the various teams units would you want in conference play. To say I’d rather have the Mizzou offense isn’t a slight to Tech, it’s props to the Tigers. I like our offense as well, but no sane person can say that RIGHT NOW TODAY our offense is better than Mizzou. Tech has the POTENTIAL to be amazing, but it’s not right now.

Side note: I, and many others here, pay for tickets. Plus, I donate more than $500 per year to the alumni assoc and the Red Raider Club (total, not each). I think I have the right to voice a dissenting opinion of the program – because I help pay for it. They have to answer to us, the donors. That’s how it works.

Tech92

No I did not miss the point of the post. It was originally a fantasy question. And I got it. The problem was the over all tone and some disrespect that I see.

As I pointed out, I am not deluded into thinking our program is currently the best in the nation. Its in the top tier. But not the best.

My point was that the fantasy question was posed in a way which detracted from our Players and program.

For example, Who is the current best offensive player in the Big 12? That would depend now would it not based on position?

I am not getting hypertechnical here. My overall point was that early in the season is not the time to say you would have OSU or a Chase Daniels or OU or UT players.

We have some good players and we have some very average players here at Tech. That is reality. But its a team sport. I am not a fully blind follower of Tech. I expect the program to progress forward! If it does not, then I will speak out and say hey, This has to be fix and put the train back on the track!

But Honestly, I would take the Tech Offense right now and pit it against any in the nation. Even as bad as Harrell has struggled in the first few games I would take our offense.
I mean 2 yards short of 700 yards of offense against SMU is damn good. Yet we see this kind of production with the offense.

Our boys have everything they need to be National Champions this year. No I am not losing my mind. All they really need is the right attitude matched up with the desire to be a team player!

So in all honestly, my point is valid unless you wanted to discuss the Fantasy football from the Big 12.

My reponse was to say hey we are 3 games into the season. Think about the possibilities of our boys over that of other teams that may look good early but finish historically bad. See OU and Texas for that Example.
