I hope Tech Defense reads this quote

http://www.kansas.com/sports/story/545869.html

"I think we can put 40-plus points on them," junior wide receiver Brandon Banks said.

This is quoted from the Wichita Eagle, September 30, 2008.  I used to live there so I read the paper online occaisionally.  I am, however more concerned with our offense playing up to their potential.  I think the defense is steadily improving, but like many sports writers and fellow Double T Nation members, I am not happy with Harrell's progress this year.  Saturday could be a great day for us or it could be last year's Oklahoma State game, though I don't think K-State has OSU's fire power.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors.

Game

I think this game is shaping up to possibly be a passing war with the potential for 90 points total. While I don’t think KState can keep up for the full 60 minutes, I also don’t think we’ll be able to shut their passing down. They will get plenty of yards and plenty of points, but I expect Tech to pull away late. Maybe with the help of a defensive or special teams TD. Let’s go with Tech 49 KState 31

hope it's not a passing war

they are terrible against the run, giving up an average 206 per game with an average of 4.92 per attempt, on the other hand they only allow 164 per game through the air… Tech averages 146 and 5.9 per attempt on the ground. Keep it on the ground this game. we have weapons in the backfield hopefully leach will us them, also graham is being smart this year so far in checking to the run.

I seriously doubt Leach is smart enough to game plan for a running first attack. That would kill, just KILL, his ego to not come out and force the passing game. He will do everything possible for Harrell and Co. to put up huge passing yards, even if it means a struggle of a game. He’s too wrapped up in the pass to adjust with the run on a consistent basis. Side bar…a guy in our company was an OL backup at A&M who was recruited by Tech in 2000. He never considered Tech seriously simply because it’s not very much fun for an OL to spend all day pass blocking. He said something to the effect of, “Spending four years in a backpedal seemed like a nightmare to me…let me drive on someone. That is what makes being a lineman even halfway fun. Hot chicks, though.” Had to laugh at that.

I doubt there's much of a running attack planned.

because it would probably be a bad idea considering the name of the website is ‘pass or catch.’

or there could be another website called ‘running away from the heisman’

Man do I hate Longhorn fans, well except for the ones that actually went there.

If Leach...

…doesn’t try to run the ball down K-State’s throat, it will be the coaching mistake of the year. I’m not saying you can’t beat us throwing the ball, far from it, actually, but Tech could ensure this is an easy victory by giving Shannon Woods 30 carries.

Be afraid of Baron Batch
He's similar to Woods, but can be just as explosive. Plus his first name is "Baron". Tell me you're not afraid.

I don't know..

…Baron kind of makes me think of Snoopy’s alternate character on Peanuts.

Hadn't thought

about that, I always thought of the actual Red Baron.

164 through the air

They do that because everyone can run on them. They are also going to be missing their starting safety and the other secondary members are pretty green. I see us passing all over them if the offense is in sync, if not we will run the ball down.

Wrong

You guys are wrong. The reason that they are giving up more on the ground than in the air is because of the other teams’ philosophies. If they aren’t stopping the run, then why pass it. Their pass defense is just as bad as their run defense and we are better at passing the ball. The way Leach runs the offense, this weekend we’ll see that anyone can run around on them or throw it all over the place too. The other teams kept running the ball to keep control the game better and it is safer for them to keep it on the ground because they don’t have quarterbacks like Graham Harrell.

It will be interesting...

to watch and see how often tech runs the ball as opposed to our previous games. Last game Shannon Woods and Baron Batch ran for 108 and 55 yards respectively. That is a long reach from what they were doing last year. Everyone knows tech is going to throw the ball, and throw it a lot. With a weak defense that K-State apparently has, it will just be interesting to see how many more yards Tech stacks up on top of their passing yards.

I dont think this game will get out of hand, scoring-wise. Ruffin will make sure that his defense looks good against a team that is supposed to be #6 in the big xii north. Remember the SMU game… they tried throwing the ball a lot, and got shut down. Also remember Nevada, they got in the Red Zone multiple times, and only scored 1 TD…

Tech needs to take what the defense gives them

Who cares what we have been good at in the past. The fact is Harrell needs to execute what he does best and that’s read the defense. If they are loading the box “pass” and if they are playing zone “run”. It’s that’s simple. Our running backs and O line are finally set up good enough to chip away yards while getting first downs. We don’t need the who scores last concept as in years past.

As long as they keep the defense off balance with delayed hand offs and screens, no going for it on 4th down during the first half of the game unless it’s a yard or two with 30 yards to go, and run enough offense to keep our defense from passing out we’ll be just fine. Go Tech!

don't go to vegas, banks...

because he can’t see the future. They got 28 points and 14 of those were gimmes (punt block and Leach’s bonehead call on 4th and inches).
