Open Post Game Thread: Texas Tech 35, Nevada 19

It wasn't pretty, but it was a win, and I'll take one of those every Saturday than a loss, ugly or not.  Feel free to discuss the game here.

Great Road Win

Even though Nev. had alot of yards the D played great tonite. I listened on Sirius and it was a classic off nite for Harrell as he seems to over throw receivers just a tad when he is off. Other wise considering what E. Wash did today and all the critics about this game I think did just fine. We are used to great numbers in the non-conf games but these 2 were somewhat harder than non-conf. the last few years. Back to Jones to rack up on Jones and Co. Wreck’em TECH

Two and Oh

Well, in order to be undefeated you have to win the first two. Mission accomplished. As far as criticisms go, Harrell was the misfiring piece of the offense. If he would have been on and made his throws, this game would not have been in question. In any case, two more scrimmages to get through until the regular season starts.

Defense won this one.

Ruffin’s D kept us in this one. Otherwise, this would have been another frustrating bad loss. This is the defense we’ve been wanting to keep us in games when the offense has a terrible game. Thank you, Ruff, and thank you defense.

Also, the kicking game is now a liability. Carona 0-3 for the year on FG’s, 2 of them blocked. Gotta get this fixed. He needs to get his kickoffs into the end zone like he did in the offseason as well.

? about Harrell

Harrell got hit hard last week one time and I wonder if he is hurting? I would let Fowler have a chance on field goals. I do like the running game. Nevada had 2 times as many carries but we had about 60 perecent of their yards. Harrell has got to be more accurate. Wreck’em TECH

Harrell played like garbage.

Frustration.

I’m not shaving my mustache until Tech loses a game and I really thought it was coming off tonight. If Harrell plays like that ever again, it will.

Go register. Or else.

National folks questioned this game

It seemed the national reporters were wondering if we could win this one on the road. Well again 2 years ago we probably would have lost this game. Remember TCU? But a we needed a win and we got one.

We won on the road and thats always a good thing.....

BUT…. some major adjustments need to be made before we enter into Big XII play in a few weeks. If this was just an off day for Graham, lets hope he doesn’t have anymore. At times, he looked completely lost, out of sync with the receivers, and when he did find the open man, he would miss horribly. His play was downright scary today.

The bright side, however, was that I did see improvement on defense, although you couldn’t tell from the stats on the box score. But they looked a lot more aggressive and had some really big plays. Sure, there were times when they got beat and gave up more than they should have, but overall, much improvement. Baby steps, baby steps.

Wake up call

Watched the webcast through the Nevada site – I know it was last minute, but the actual webcast drove me nuts. Between the quirky webcast and our first-half offense, I was ready to boot my laptop out the window. As horrible as the cast was, I have to send thanks to Nevada for setting that up – always great to see the live action.

We did get the “W” and beat the spread – I guess that’s all that matters. BUT – very sloppy at times. It was good to see Crabtree getting some catches, and ultimately impressive YACs (and TD!!). I hope our offense watches these tapes extremely close and make the necessary changes. I definitely think we should have broke 50 with these guys.

Defense was awesome. I know they gave up a few yards, but that was by far the best performance I have seen over the last 2 years (close second may be Virginia). Great job D!

Nevada is a great team, with top-notch coaching. They made for great adversaries.

There has definitely been a lot of hype with TT this year – I think this played a minor part last night as well.

My brother

got online webcast and we watched the game together. ell, when we could bare the horror that Harrell provided (is it halloween yet?)…. Otherwise, I agree about the “D”. I bent, a lot, but stiffened enough to allow us to “escape” with a “W”. Horrible way to get a win. I really do think this team needs some serious butt kicking after each practice, just to let them know they are not going to get away scott free when they play so poorly. It’s not just getting a “W”, it’s learning something and improving each game. We took a big step backward, it seems, at least offensively. And the “D” could have bent a little less. Maybe if the “O” would not have given it over (Mike, are you listening?) so much on blotched 4th dowh attempts, we could have prevented Nevada from gaining any momentum. There is a reason for punting. If the head coach would just oull his head out of his ass at least once, he might be able to see that going for it on 4th down may not be the best choice. Leach has been a coach long enough to know this, but apparently his head is so large he can’t pull it free from his tight ass so he can see the real truth. It’s kind of hard to see through all that shit. This team had best shrink the size of all their heads and start playing with purpose, or this could turn into a nightmare of a season.
