Just watched the senior bowl
I just watched the senior bowl and with the miserable commentators, miserable sideline reporting, no blitzing and terrible route running that game is just about unwatchable. Anyway I, like y'all tuned in to see how our boy Graham would do. I thought he'd be a little better and I am really not worried about his arm strength like those absolute horrible commentators were saying, but what I am worried about is where he puts the ball. With those little in routes and out routes that Leach runs that are just designed to get 5-7 yards that the quarterback are supposed to put at the receivers right knee or left hip etc where the receiver just catches it and falls down or slides to catch it, (which Graham was unreal at by the way). I think that will be his weak spot, he can learn to throw from under center, he just needs to get into the habit of throwing to shoulders and face masks. Does that make sense or am I just crazy with thinking Leach had Graham throw to receivers where no one else but the receivers could catch the ball?

Oh, I think his arm strength when he drops back, due to bad footwork and balance, is terrible. He pushed the ball all night long. He’s got lots of ground to make up. He’ll get a shot as a late pick or FA, but he’ll have to fight to make a roster. Feel bad for the guy, really. Tonight was ugly any way you slice it.
Due to bad footwork
that is the key. He gets happy feet worse than any QB I can remember of late. It’s hard to evaluate his arm strength because of that. The few times he has actually planted his feet and delivered the ball, I think he’s got adequate strength, but nothing noteworthy.
If Graham wants to make it in the league, he has to decide whether or not he wants it bad enough to be willing to stand in the pocket, step into the ball, and take a hit the likes of which he has not yet experienced. And be willing to do it 10-20 times a game. If so, the mechanics of good footwork can be coached, and a little extra time in the weight room will improve his arm strength to where he can compete. He’s got the football smarts and ability to make the reads. He has better touch than most guys. But ultimately, he has to look deep inside of himself and decide whether he wants to be a player or be a coach.
Either way, hats off to him for a great tenure at Tech.
There will probably be a spot for him in
Canada, or Europe, or arena (if it comes back), and if Graham so chooses. However, I never thought he was an NFL caliber QB. The sad, and simple truth is, his last shot for glory was to beat OU, then roll into the BCS. He, and his team, failed. Unfortunately.
Go Tech!!!
I think if he spends time in the weight room and adds about 20 lbs, he’ll be able to get more zip through hip rotation. He doesn’t need a Favre arm to succeed. But he can’t rely on anticipation alone to get a pass to the receiver in time. He’ll get picked apart…like he did last night. I consider that he really threw two INTs, though one was a terrible drop – and should have been a pick-six.
Give the guy a break....
My thoughts:
1) First time this guy has been under center for the first time since pop warner.
2) Never got into the rythm that he’s used to dealing with a new offense and WR’s—
3) No o-line protection…did you all notice the other QB’s having time to throw? I remember seeing Rhett Bomar being chased all nights.
4) Maybe the spotlight got to him……it was only his career and livelihood on the line.
Ok….so he doesn’t have the arm or weight. He’s not going to be a pro QB overnight. If the right team can put him on the practice squad and give him time to develop, then he might have a shot. If not, I would agree that he could be a good arena QB or assistant coach.
I think he’s the best pro prospect Leach has put out — so i’m not ready to write him off yet.
…not writing him off at all. I just believe his road to climb is steeper than I originally thought. I never viewed him as a star in the pro’s (and still don’t), but the performance was shocking to me. I just hope he makes at least a practice squad so he can get the coaching that will only help him improve.
He may very well go on to have nice career, and I’ll definitely be in his corner to make it. But people paid to think about this stuff (GMs and scouts) aren’t all that impressed either.
West Coast Off
I think Graham has the potential to flourish in a WC offense. I was thinking he might have been a good fit in Tampa Bay. Not so sure now that Gruden is gone. I think he’ll have a legit opportunity to prove himself. Let’s hope it’s with a descent team.
On the contrary........
#1-It doesn’t take an expert in Quantum mechanics to adjust the footwork when coming from under the center. It only takes about a week for even a monkey to master.
#2-Estimation of arm strength is woefully inadequate. Go back and watch the throws he made in past games especially in 2006 against Texas or the dart in 2007 OSU vs TT were Crabtree couldn’t handle the frozen rope through by Harrell. He is always throwing excellent passes with tons of defensemen around him.
Hopefully it was realized that this season the coach hindered alot of his long distance throwing due to his favoring 3 and 5 yard passes using his passing game as a running game. Again even the monkey could perfect his long throw in due time.
….If you guys are from Texas Tech it is hard for me to feel the support in your posts….Let me undestand…or is it just monkey see, monkey do
