Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Could be worse - Texas A&M

It's dissapointing to lose the Cotton Bowl after such a great season but Tech has a whole lot of things to regard positive moving forward.  Our program gained national attention throughout the season and our coach will be the focus of Sunday's 60 Minutes episode.  ESPN featured Tech on almost every high light and not to mention fully televised games.  Recruiting is way up and we have lots of depth on the remaining team.  Now if you look at the aggies you can't say anything is moving in a positive direction for those envious losers.  I read their chat board Texags as the season moved along and all they talk about is Tech in a negative fashion.  I find it really interesting how a program as bad as theirs can actually talk so bad about Tech's.  New Baylor as we now refer to them will be lucky if they can muster 6 wins next season.  Red Raiders can feel good as one of the south division leaders for years to come.  We had a great year and will continue to improve to the likes of Oklahoma and Texas.  Congratulations Red Raiders and to the Raider nation alike.

I don't blame them for being angry

Despite having the PUF to fund their largess, and having the 5-star talent that their tradition brings them, New Baylor can’t even win half their games after a decade or more of struggling. Hell, they can’t even stay on the field with the old Baylor which is practically built with string and baling wire. It must frustrate the hell out of them to see Tech do such much with so limited a set of resources, so they set their frustrations loose on us.

But I don’t really care what New Baylor fans say on their own boards. The horn fans talk a lot of trash on theirs too, although there are always those at BON and BC that try to keep the T-shirt trolls under control – at least to the extent that anyone can control idiots and children.

I don’t mind hearing from most other teams’ fans over here, but IMO we really need to think about banning the few that constantly abuse the privilege. Hearing another viewpoint offered in a respectful manner is one thing, but asking our members to suffer continuous harassment from abusive idiots is something else. The beergut troll who’s been antagonizing us the last two days comes to mind. When a person has such an insecure and damaged sense of self-worth that he has to attempt to regain his manhood by kicking other folks when they’re down, there is nothing positive to be gained.

what does the Permanent University Fund have to do with athletics?
Despite having the PUF to fund their largess

No PUF money goes to athletics, so what does this have to do with anything?

Hell, they can’t even stay on the field with the old Baylor which is practically built with string and baling wire.

I’m sorry, if Baylor was such a pathetic team this season, why were you losing to them in the 4th quarter at home on Senior Day?

The beergut troll who’s been antagonizing us the last two days comes to mind.

I’ve been here all season, not just two days.

When a person has such an insecure and damaged sense of self-worth that he has to attempt to regain his manhood by kicking other folks when they’re down, there is nothing positive to be gained.

My self-worth is fine, thanks for your concern. It is funny that you criticize people for talking smack, and then you engage in a personal attack on me. Hypocritical much?

My presence here has nothing to do with “kicking people when they are down”, it is more the fact that I was rooting for y’all in the Cotton Bowl and you had to go ahead and pull a “Typical Tech” and embarrass the conference. I’ve been arguing all season long that SEC defenses do so well statistically because they face unimaginative, mediocre offenses while Big 12 defenses faced explosive offensive attacks led by upperclassmen QBs this season, which hurt conference defensive stats, and Tech went ahead and turned that argument on its head.

So because PUF money funds things besides athletics at A&M university, it doesn’t have anything to do with athletics? Do you believe that?

If it funds things that make the university better off, doesn’t that put it in a better position to recruit, generally? Don’t students want to go to well funded universities?

Doesn’t money used by the PUF preempt the need to use other moneys on the same, thus freeing up additional funds for, say, athletics?

I have no idea why you’re so hostile towards Tech for proving you wrong. You’re so often wrong, about virtually everything, that you should be used to it by now.

Go register. Or else.

Yes, I do believe that. I think Tech fans, for whatever reason, grasp onto the PUF as a reason to hate A&M without fully understanding what it is. It is like Baylor fans who whine about their taxpayer money going to fund A&M athletics (also a myth).

If it funds things that make the university better off, doesn’t that put it in a better position to recruit, generally? Don’t students want to go to well funded universities?

I’ve talked to plenty of college students and prospective college students recently; not a single one of them mentioned a university’s funding as a reason for attendance. I think if you made a list of the top 50 things a prospective college student looks at in a college, their university’s funding wouldn’t be on it.

Doesn’t money used by the PUF preempt the need to use other moneys on the same, thus freeing up additional funds for, say, athletics?

No, because no other university money goes to athletics; it is a separate entity and is funded separately. They university doesn’t say, well, we have $100 million here, but since we have the PUF money, we can push this $20 million over to athletics; it doesn’t work that way. Athletics is funded by revenue and donations from boosters, and that money is donated directly to athletics, i.e. they aren’t donating to the school and having it moved to athletics.

Yeah, we return record-setters at QB, two WR spots, and RB, AND we received a commitment from one of the top RBs in the nation yesterday during the HS All-American Bowl. [sarcasm]Yup, nothing to look forward to there [/sarcasm]

Envious? Sorry, there is nothing to envy about a team that was just humiliated for the second time this year on national television, and went 1-2 to end the season.

of note: you need that RB recruit, Goodson is declaring for the draft.

I, though, am not a fan of picking out certain posters from other teams, nor this constant whining about the other teams except in the case of pointing out that we’re doing better than they are and speculation on what the teams will do in the future, etc.

You do troll a bit much, though, beergut.

if you ask me

we have too many RBs.

We struggled rotating Goodson, Stephens, Gray, Smith, Lane, et al.

With Gray and Stephens coming back, RB is not a “need” position, although Michaels is a great pick-up. He’ll be a nice complement to Gray.

Glad to hear that the team that went 0-3 to end the season doesn’t envy our last win, I guess that explains your 4-8 record and the loss to that “lone win” over Baylor. Of course, if we’re really matching it up it’d be the team that closed 2-2 vs. the team that closed 0-3 (and no bowl). And while I think the loss to Ole Miss was humbling and VERY disappointing, it was far from “humiliating”, humiliating is losing at home to Arkansas State, but yeah, I guess at least that wasn’t on national TV, so good on you for keeping your humiliating team off TV. :)

A&M Not Relevent Anymore

Big 12 football has pushed these clowns to the bottom of the conference and it’s only going to get worse for them. They think they have a coach and QB that can bring some dignity back it’s not going to happen. Enjoy the basement and your true rival in Baylor. Tech will fight on with the big boys OK and TX. You guys continue to bash Tech as much as you want. Go back to your Texags and make it all about Tech and how happy you are that we lost our bowl game. You losers will be watching plenty of more bowl games from home in the future that include the top three powers in OU, TX and Tech. New Baylor and Baylor should be a great game next year.

I was really “impressed” with the fight you showed against OU this season.

Go back to your Texags and make it all about Tech and how happy you are that we lost our bowl game.

Are you illiterate or just stupid?

What part of

I was rooting for y’all in the Cotton Bowl

do you not understand?

BG, bashing Tech just makes you look pathetic.

Any sane A&M fan would gladly trade the last decade of results with the Red Raiders. And constantly saying that Tech is an embarrassment to the Big 12 is silly and only emphasizes just how irrelevant the Fake Army is now.

One more thing: Arkansas State.

by the1austin on Jan 5, 2009 1:02 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You are disingenuous.

You would have to think we were all stupid for us to believe that you were rooting for Texas Tech. Everything you’ve ever said about the school over the past football season has been overwhelmingly negative and suddenly we’re supposed to think you really just want the Big 12 to look good and that Tech simply let you down.

I don’t buy it, nor do I think others should either. The idea that you were pained by our loss to Ole Miss is unbelievable.

Go register. Or else.

Look guys, BG has to come over here to have any sort of football conversation. The Aggie site has been almost devoid of any interaction since the fourth or fifth week of the season. They may have an outlet for their internet fix, but it’s not the 12th Man of SB Nation.

It’s not an indictment on BG, but it tells me that Tech fans are probably a bit more passionate about intellectual athletic discussion. TexAgs will make your toes curl with the goofiness that goes on over there, so I can’t include that in the argument at all.

Did you think

that after reading this post that Beergut wouldn’t have something to say about it? I don’t think he’s a troll, but this post is sure troll bait.

That being said, it’s important to acknowledge and applaud this program for doing so much with so little. It’s no surprise that an aggie has something negative to say about Tech. Yeah, we could ban him, but then we would miss out on his groundbreaking, original, and awe-inspiring commentary we never get to hear from an aggie, especially not like anything – say – on texags.com.
