Tech vs. Tamu Game Not Televised

Hey All,

I just saw this link today--it stinks we will not be able to watch Tech beat the Ags in our own living rooms.  Are they trying to sell the seats in order to make the air?  I don't think it's a sellout yet.  The game that is scheduled for showing is Colorado vs. K-state--yuck!

Surely that will change.

When we sell out maybe. That is the first week that the new seats on the north end will be open. That is why there are still 10,000 tickets left. But the ’08 tech/nebraska game is coming on fsn tonight!

Thanks for the heads up
But the ’08 tech/nebraska game is coming on fsn tonight!

I'm not worthy. Really.

Wow..that would suck. Let’s hope they sell that thing out.

this is a bit shocking. How can the game not be televised. Amazing.

by logan5555 on Oct 12, 2009 7:29 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

The TV thing has nothing to do with attendance or if it’s a sellout. The networks pick the games, and they normally do this ~12 days before kickoff. Why they looked over this one is bizarre. One of the most lopsided series in the last decade may have something to do with it. Maybe something will change between now and then.

I think it will get picked up...

by espn2 or possibly the late FSN game. The time was moved from 1:00 to 6:00. My guess is that this was done for a reason. It would be a shame not to televise it. I’ll be there and can’t wait to add another notch.

I was really epecting a…“No it won’t, and quit calling me Shirley.”

by Raider75 on Oct 12, 2009 9:08 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

i bet it will get picked up somehow.

But if it doesn’t, i won’t be too broken up because i bought my tickets so that would mean no stupid tv timeouts. It’s the only game i’m gonna see this year except for the baylor game at jerryworld.

There aren't enough hotel rooms

in Lubbock and surrounding areas to house that many fans. People will have to fly home that night after the game or pitch a tent.

That’s the reason I miss home games… i need to book rooms a half a year a head of time. It’s BS!

maybe for the Aggies, BUT

I just booked two rooms (for KU weekend) at the Hawthorn over by St. Mary’s/Methodist Hosp and there were still rooms avail as close as the Days Inn at 4th and Univ. I also didn’t HAVE to book two nights like every one said, though I did book Fri and Sat anyway.

If you go to Hotels.com or whatever, and put just the Saturday night there are LESS rooms avail than if you request both nights, so some hotels are making you book two nights.

I just stayed at that new hawthorn off quaker. its a really nice hotel. Looks crappy from the outside though.

We checked on hotels last May and yes you have to book both nights for almost all of them.

by logan5555 on Oct 13, 2009 7:52 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

As of yesterday, there were still several choices available for Sat only (atm game) but the prices are all over $200 per night. YIKES!! There’d have to be nubile young wenches involved before I paid that much.

I dropped down Hwy 84 30 miles to Post (since it’s on my way home) and got one at the new Best Western for $100.

smart choice

There’s plenty of not so nubile old wenches in Garza county I hear.

Doesn't make sense

I’m not TV exec, but consider the viewer ratings for a moment on the 10/24 games.
No. 3 Texas at Missouri = no brainer
No. 20 Oklahoma at No. 17 Kansas = see above
Iowa State at No. 15 Nebraska = logical I suppose since FSN hasn’t had Neb on tv this year.

But, this is the one that doesn’t make sense.

“Versus, with the last selection, took No. 16 Oklahoma State at Baylor” (quote from RedRaiders.com)

No Dez Bryant, no Robert Griffin. Ok State somehow still in top 25. Baylor likely not going to qualify for bowl this year.

Question becomes does Versus really think they’ll have better ratings with OSU/Baylor compared to Tech/aTm???

Frankly, most of the Baylor alum I know moved to Austin and root more for UT than Baylor. This is somehow justified in their mind and they have no problem wearing Longhorn gear. I don’t pretend to understand this.

Here’s hoping for a victory this weekend over Neb which would knock some of the luster off of the Iowa St/Neb selection by FSN.

by imisswesttexas on Oct 13, 2009 10:46 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

we can’t even get espn, espn2, espn360.com, espnu, espn on abc (not probable for this game, i know), versus, fsn regional, or espn classic or anything? i know neither of our team’s are ranked, but come on… NOTHING?

i’m not really gonna complain though since i’m a student… i know i’m gonna get in…

by RedRaider621 on Oct 13, 2009 11:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is why the Big 12 needs to get a TV contract.

by ST04 on Oct 13, 2009 2:39 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

They have four (ABC, ESPN family, Fox, Versus (which is a subcontract of Fox))…did you mean a network?

by Tech92 on Oct 13, 2009 11:41 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Didn’t this happen a couple of years ago as well? Seems like I remember being in shock that a Tech v atm game wasn’t going to be televised. Or, mayby I’ve lost too many brain cells between then and now…

by Plano Jeff on Oct 13, 2009 9:15 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Just an observation.

But I have seen a few times this year where Tech was not scheduled to be on TV up to 2 weeks before the game, then something changes the week of and we are on. I know around Houston there will be some sort of visual on it, and if/when we beat Nebraska I say there is no doubt we will be on tv. I will start to worry if I dont see us scheduled the week of the game… I say give it time.

by Vassago77379 on Oct 13, 2009 9:22 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

The selections are made no earlier than 12 days prior to the game unless it’s considered a “special event” game. ie. Texas v. Texas A&M. Those games are scheduled for telecast in the summer.

During the season ABC picks first, then ESPN, the FOX, then Versus. Versus went with Nebraska as the final game for the week. Unless it’s on PPV or only in Lubbock and College Station locally, it won’t air. It won’t be on a widely received package cable channel. That much is certain.

by Tech92 on Oct 13, 2009 11:39 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

IT will be on TV if...

Tech beats NU and a&m beats K State.
Tech would be 5-2 and in the top 25
a&m would be 5-2 also.
That will put it on tv for sure.

Almost no chance of the game being on TV….slim, but that’s probably just rhetoric.

Someone will pick the game up,,especially since it is in Lubbock. TAMU alumni base is large, and this will help in getting it on the tube. If the game was in College St. , there would not be the incentive, plus Tech only allocates so many tickets for the visiting team. I’ll be in San Angelo that weekend, and i’m willing to help pick up the pay-per view if anyone is interested.

by Dr. Mark on Oct 14, 2009 12:11 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

In that RedRaiders.com article, our lovely AD said that if the stadium does not sellout, there is no incentive for him to try and get us televised. I won’t argue that the stadium was expanded too much, but Myers needs to be more realistic.

I’m sure that the stadium would be sold out already if the tickets didn’t cost $95 each, and those are the tickets in the end zone i imagine, not even the actual seats. Myers would be doing himself a favor lowering the ticket prices. $95 is too much given everything that’s going on. If he did, he has a better chance of selling out, and then he can try and get us on TV.

by RedRaider621 on Oct 14, 2009 1:31 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

$95...

Is about average for all in-state big 12 games. I wonder how much the big 12 gets per ticket sold? I know two years ago I was going to go to the baylor game because it was close to home, but the cheap seats cost $85. Frickin Baylor! I’m all for the stadium expansion, but it seems to me it should have started a year or two later in order for it to fill up. As it is now, it MAY sell out for OU, that is if we dont lose again until then. I’m a firm believer that we will win the big 12 next year and possibly the year after, stadium will be filled to capacity then. But get used to these renovations, from looking at the future plans for the Jones they are building above the south booths and the north ticket office to enclose the space. As long as its full, and the tech fans stay rowdy, the Jones will be one of the loudest stadiums in the nation when this is finished. (Not to mention the nicest!) Now my question is with such an increase in students over the next few years, is there any talk about increasing the student section?

by RdrPwr on Oct 14, 2009 2:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

i thought they were going to increase the student section a little this year with the north side expanding, but i’m not sure. It would only make sense. we have over 30,000 students now…

by RedRaider621 on Oct 16, 2009 12:51 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

unless they allow some students in the second deck, they havent expanded the student section at all.

by RdrPwr on Oct 17, 2009 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have no doubt this game will sell out. We’re more than a week away from kickoff…how far in advance do you guys expect us to sell games out?

by Tech92 on Oct 14, 2009 2:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

yea

its aTm it will sell out less than 8k tickets left and a week and a half to game time

If you not having fun....then your not playing the game right.

by texastfan on Oct 14, 2009 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

5k now, according to Myers on a video at the official web site.

I just read that

3k tickets in 2-3 days of selling I think it will sell out

If somehow it ends up on pay-per-view

Come on by! What are you doing in the home of the REAL Texas Tech campus? I kind of hate saying that. I still don’t know how I feel about my alma mater being in the Texas Tech system.

by Thorne on Oct 14, 2009 10:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's just a mutual relationship I hope benefits Angelo

TAMU-Commerce has a program where to lure really smart kids there for undergrad, they are guaranteed admission to the new TAMU Med school(with some minimum standards I assume). There seem to be many allied health type majors this new system will benefit with us having Med schools in LuBB, Amarillo and EP, Permian area? YOU did get to keep your name unlike some of the Aggie system schools. Anyway, the city of Commerce just loves having ayunem money revitalizing their campus, hopefully you will see an influx at ASU.

by Plano Jeff on Oct 16, 2009 6:21 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

ASU

I think all those schools that have changed their name to “TAMU at…” and “UT at…” did so to acquire a piece of the oil/landgrant money. ASU didn’t get any money with the move to TTU, instead ASU brought it’s already budgeted money to the TTU system.

We were a medium to big fish in the Texas State system. Now, We are THE little fish. In the old system, the Regents were pretty diverse, trying to represent all the schools. ASU will be lucky to get one regent in Texas Tech system.

My reservations seem to place me in the minority of ASU alumni. I became even more skeptical when almost immediately, the Texas Tech Regents started strong arming the City of San Angelo over closing Johnson Street, although I think that was just a feint to win the battle over another minor road closure

ASU changed directions during this last decade, so I was already apprehensive.

We had a longtime president that envisioned ASU as a regional school with 75% percent of the students on scholarship. He and was doing well on his goal (Carr Scholarship).

Since that president has died the emphasis has become growth.

Sad to say, but the extra or unsold tickets would be gobbled up by the A&M alum, if they were available.

by Dr. Mark on Oct 14, 2009 1:40 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Now we know why!

Because, it’s not wort watching … I know I’d like to see TT put 80 points on A&M on national television, but the rest of the world doesn’t!

by maliath on Oct 17, 2009 8:31 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Speechless.

I suppose any chance of TV might be out the window at this point after the KState beat down. Huge blow to aTm to lose to KState by 48 pts. Wow

I never saw that coming. Impressive for KState to bounce back, but how?

So we took KState by 52, aTm lost to KState by 48. Does that mean we might beat aTm by 100 pts? (joking)
