Open 2nd Half Thread :: Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers
Thanks to some plays on defense Texas Tech is up 24-3 at the half. Can our banged-up O-line keep Sheffield upright long enough to extend the lead? Can our defense continue to pressure Nebraska QB Zac Lee? Join in the 2nd half thread.

and you're saying that wasn't deserved?

Our defense has been great
Really. Can’t believe how tough they’ve been playing.
I'm not worthy. Really.
So proud of them
for the past 6 quarters they have been absolutely dominating

Still no running game to speak of
Jeffers has the one run for 21 yards and Batch has 4 carries for 4 total yards. We must improve that – but hard to do without starting O-Line
I'm happy with the play calling overall
We did run for a first down. And it wasn’t a QB sneak.
I'm not worthy. Really.
now it would take a miracle for Tech to win the south
need 2 losses by UT against no one and Tech run the table

I dunno...
UT hasnt impressed me too much. Look for mizzou to give them a run for it next week, and we all know atm wants nothing more than to beat them this year in kyle field. Plus UT always struggles with Ok st. Its an outside chance, but its still a chance.
I think the Aggies and the Cowboys have a good shot since both are away games. Texas has played nobody of note in a hostile environment. Must be nice.
I still think Jordan Shipley is the best player on their team. Colt McCoy is an above average QB but I think if you watch him play, calling him the best college football player is pretty ridiculous.
Tech needs to work on commercials bad!!
The Nebraska one was really good. Texas has the Whataburger guy talking for them.

what a burger….
Glad I’m about to start the smoker and get my 1.75" new york strip cooked (barely) YUM!
I
remember going to a playa lake when taking biology at Tech. There was a girl in a bikini sun tanning along the edge of the playa. As the instuctor discussed the general ecology of playa lakes, he gestured to the girl and said, “And over there we have a yellow-breasted matress thrasher”.
I'm not sure, is McDaniel out for the game?

Damn, then I think it's Joe King after that......Maybe. I dunno for sure.

Can't worry now....
All TTech cab do now is keep winning! Awesome first half..SS hasn’t been great but his mobility has kept him at least upright. 14-18 isn’t bad and he really is a leader. If we score 2 more TD’s we will win! Wreck’Em Tech
It's the defense that's kept them in the game
Gotta hand it to Ruff. He’s got them believing.
I'm not worthy. Really.
Olsen's in now
Olsen needs to step up in the 2nd half. Moore just needs to piece this together! Wreck’Em Tech
I've decided that we need a drop down depth chart available at all times when we're on the page.....

So far...
reminds me a little bit of the Kansas game last year. Except for all the red…and the stands not emptying.
Off topic....
Wasn’t that the sloppiest Red River Shootout ever?

Rice
may lose every single game this year – tough to go from a bowl team to winless the following year
Wasn't the QB's fault
but they need some kind of spark

Our o-line
needs to reach out and touch somebody!!!! There is no excuse for that many people coming free, even if its 3rd string
they are struggling
we don’t have very good depth behind the starters, and 2 of the starters are out

hey did yall read sheffields lips when he was talking to torres?
he said “we gotta get you the ball”
The
announcers are struggling for something to say. So when does Craig James abandon the professional objectivity act and scream, “Hell yes….Go Tech!”?
I don't think they will go for 3 anymore

Yes, only Pelini. It’s not the Nebraska players standing around during plays, receivers dropping passes, blockers not getting anything open for running game. It’s just Pelini. We as a team suck today.
it has to be frustrating to not have any offense to speak of – hard to win games without any semblance of an offense
by jeffinhouston on Oct 17, 2009 5:08 PM CDT up reply actions
Absolutely
I would love o have him for a d-coordinator. NU is pretty solid and wll probably win the north
4th Quarter... Power
Time to get some offense goin. Also if Neb.wants to run let them….3or 4 yards is fine.
Wreck’Em Tech
Well..
there was never any real evidence, sans the 4th quarter of the Missouri game, that Nebraska had a productive offense.
Sheff hasn't been a special qb today
other than not commiting a turnover, very pedestrian performance

I thought our D would be the difference....
Give Ruff credit! Now go SS! Give it to Jeffers! Wreck’Em Tech
Nice redzone D…ruffin is pumped. The D came ready to play today. I know there are a lot of games left today..but any thoughts on if/where we will be ranked next week if we win like this?
by Wreck Em on Oct 17, 2009 5:18 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
We we’re turning it over to our defense? They have played stellar lately, but that makes me a little nervous. Still a lot of time.
what do you expect
when you have 5 guys in your face every single play? Our o-line sucks corn cobbs today!
Time for Potts to go out there?
if he’s cleared to play?
by jeffinhouston on Oct 17, 2009 5:22 PM CDT up reply actions
If his head is right...
I think he’s the better choice.
Sheff’s mobility isn’t benefiting us when he’s running backwards.
Sticks
He’s good, but he needs time to throw. Right now he’s just getting the ball and trying to run away from 2-4 guys who toss our Oline aside and start charging him. I wish he was doing a better job of keeping his eyes downfield and throwing it away if need be, but whenever he’s had protection today he’s been solid.
I disagree…this is his 1st away start in neb against a great D. I think he’s done good. But our D and neb’s penalties are keepin us in the game.

Congrats on being the team to show up and play. This could have been a close game, but you have deserved it by far (still not giving up hope for some kind of miracle NU comeback).
Really hope the #15 ranking didn’t get to us because we did not deserve it. We nearly beat VT on a week where they suck. We get a downpour in Mizzou where it’s just messy, but a win.
sheff is not going to save the day guys….he’s not that player yet. He just needs to manage the game/clock.
DOGS
Today. Our OFFENSE is a BLOODHOUND that occasionally gets up and hunts.
The DEFENSE is a DOBERMAN.
except we aren't located in the same place

Sweet…a great drive right when we needed one!!! I’m really proud of our team the past couple of weeks.
No coming back from this one for NU. Congrats Raiders on an important and deserved win. Hopefully Florida will lose so we can have some company in our misery. :(
Nebraska still is the favorite to win the North – good luck the rest of the year. We appreicate your sportsmanship.
by jeffinhouston on Oct 17, 2009 5:43 PM CDT up reply actions
we will definitely be rooting for you to beat UT

I’d still rather have a coach that has a spine and fights for his team. :( That call was just insult to injury. But agreed we’ve played bad this entire game.
that pass interference was pretty weak, but so was not awarding us the interception on NU's TD drive

Pellini is a good coach—teaches discipline and smash mouth football. last year’s NU team almost beat us.
think how different the season would look with that one game being a different result

Nebraska came into the game with the number 2 defense in the country
by jeffinhouston on Oct 17, 2009 5:53 PM CDT up reply actions
yeah
Okay…..
Congrats to you guys. Now you know (if you read the Q&A, and if you didn’t shame on you) why we were so apprehensive about our offense.
You kicked our ass. I’m a little apprehensive about saying you beat us up as much as we screwed ourselves, but that’s a long conversation.
Anyway, congrats. Take care. Good luck with the rest of your season. I’ll be rooting for you guys (some times, Ha!)

and good luck the rest of the way – win all the remaining games on the schedule (especially UT)

Corn and Dave
I agree…NU didn’t have their best today. REally beat themselves to a great degree. Something we at TTU are familiar with and feel your pain (see Houston game). We had a good defensive effort today and enough offense in the first half to make the difference.
Good luck the rest of the way.
You know..
this is a significant Tech win. Shame to let the second half performance of the offense sully the victory.
