Random things to worry about against Texas A & M
First of all we all need to get ready for a verbal lashing by Beergut. And a lecture on how we aren't worthy of Tier 1 status- yet.
Next get ready for the wounded and cornered animal syndrome. If you think someone like Baylor is ready for A Bowl game you haven’t seen anything yet from the Aggie faithful. They actually have been to some in the past few years and by golly they really want some more.
Defense: A& M’s Jerrod Johnson –is a good QB, he is a great passer and he has several good receivers. They need help with the O line. Staying upright and not scrambling if he gets to do those things he can sting the Raider secondary. Last Saturday the Raider Dline rattled the Husker QB and tipped or broke up passes and I know I’m going to hell for saying it tackled in space rather well. For A&M an uncomplicated blocking scheme would help these big uglies as well. What can they do is try to play ball control and insert trick plays for some extra pop. Defensively we have seen several meltdowns in the Aggie secondary last week vs K state ouch! But Von Miller is the real deal. I think they are probably down in the mouth but Joe Kines is not going to let them slack off in Lubbock. Heck the governor will probably show up. And the Aggie band despite the rumors will attend. And march.
Offensively: It’s important for the Raiders to take what’s given. Limit the number of opportunities for A& M to get a big play no I’m not espousing a conservative strategy here just don’t want the wounded beast to get the Sticks induced pick "6". Let’s hope our own thinness on O line is not an issue. A very healthy dose of Raider blast blocking and a steady diet of Batch, Jeffers and Stephens is in order. Sweep, dive then sweep again. Except for Von Miller we may have a bit more speed (Do you think?) than the Aggie d line. On a serious note these guys are dangerous and can rise up (unless) the Raiders - must be / are/ very, very careful and very fired up. The usual formula would be prescribed. Tech must get up 2 plus scores and play downhill. I was very pleasantly surprised the defense got a TD against NE. Howards score was just a flat A$$ed heads up alert play. There may be an opportunity for the secondary to do the same to A& M just based on Jerrod Johnson forcing things i.e. a desperation mentality. The Raiders need to play fired up but patiently induce/create/ force the Aggie mistake then push it down the field very methodically. I like the fact that our sack hurry ratio is up- I swear 5 or 6 time vs. NE the D ends were leaping at Zac Lee’s outstretched throwing arm as he released the ball. We will need more of this.
Special team must refuse to allow the trick play. Mike Sherman is an old hand at this stuff. He saw the Notre Dame hide out play vs USC. I think we could see several of these type plays. BTW isn’t Ryan Tannehill the holder? And he is a real QB/Wr . I.e. he came into last year’s game as QB. Sherman wants TD’s not FG’s last week’s win against NE just reinforced this thought. To get any kind of hope going they must match the Raiders scoring. Guess I ‘m trying to say allow no momentum changers. Desperation may cause them to create somthing we have not seen. Be on your guard special teamers! In all the congratulatory posts we forgot our two covergae gaffes and a less than impressive return game for the Raiders. Except for the E. Stephens 4th Quarter return to spark the nail in the coffin final Tech drive.
Reacting to adversity: The home team view: Excute, reset, excute again. The injury to our O-linemen T. McDaniel and S. Byrnes is a tough blow. Getting the 3rd string QB ready is mandatory. Potts will play but must be protected. Don’t be surprised by a running back reprise. They - the RB's are now the strength of the team. Like last week deal with the adversity Raiders. Either Potts or Doege must quite simply just manage the game. Use the weapons, let the Aggie defense over commit then stick a knife in them with the E.Britton, B.Batch, H. Jeffers, D.Lewis and T. Swindal weapons. Don’t over try just push down steadily and cause the Aggie offense to implode and their defense to melt down. Defense just smother the Aggie run game. I feel the team, coaches and support staff are ready: remember it’s a reload event. I don’t think anyone on this forum really cares about an ugly win. Just win then sort out the details later. Raider team leaders know it’s the last half of the season. Steady Boys just steady as she goes.
Its at home, I love the Jones. It’s worth the drive to Lubbock. And the place will be rocking. I can feel a sellout. Wreck Em!

All good points—Our team is a team that should never be over confident and be aware of all the points you list above.
I just hope that they don’t see the Kansas State win against TAMU as a reason to be flat all week. They need to come out with the same energy as they always do.
Wreck em Tech!!!!!!!!!!
+1 on not taking them for granted
That never seems to work out. I think that’s what happened to North Dakota last week.
About Beergut and his trolling – Nobody is any more tired of that crap than I am, but….. I stuck my head in over at the 12th man site yesterday just to see how they were reacting to the blowout and noticed that a couple of guys claiming to be Tech fans had done some trolling of their own. At first glance it may not seem like a huge deal, just 2-3 posts taunting them late in the game. But I remember when beergut came over here and started taunting in the last few minutes of the Cotton Bowl last year. That was completely and utterly classless and I can’t stand the thought of any Tech fan lowering himself to that level.
I will point out that I didn’t recognize the name for either of the two trolls. They are certainly not regulars here. For all I know they aren’t even Tech fans at all, but fans of some other team that’s been the victim of beergut’s immature abuse. I guess you reap what you sow, a lesson Mr. gut has yet to learn.
Beating the Aggies is always fun...
I could see this being a “trap” game in that we stomped a hole in kstate, who stomped a hole in A&M… so its gotta be hard for the guys to not just assume this is a victory. I’m hoping the ‘rivalry’ (if you can still call it that at this point) aspect carries our guys to another emotion filled stomping building momentum for the next week against a very good offensive Kansas team. It’s always fun rubbing it into those aggies and hopefully this week is no different, but maintaining momentum without getting big heads is important. We could have a special run, but games like this really test the maturity of the squad to get up and pound aTm. I can’t fathom losing this game, but you gotta think the Aggies are getting desperate.
Agreed
This is classic trap game material. I think the fact that it is aTm will help though. None of the older guys will slack too much this week I don’t think. Although they don’t play like it, they do still have the ‘better’ (ask rivals) athletes and if they happen to put it all together one week we could be caught with our pants down. Look at the last few years against UT… down years but they stepped up for an emotionally important game.
Considering how down they are this year, they may step it up for us since UT is presumably totally and completely out of reach for them.
I have faith in our players and coaches not to overlook this game… just need to keep the freshmen D focused and we’ll be fine.
remember like Beergut says...
it’s our “Super Bowl”..
wonder what he would call last year’s UT game or OSU game? I mean, not that it matters, it’s not like Automatic Teller Machine has had any game that big…in the last decade.
Cause you have to be ranked…of course.
Only random thing i'm
worried about is how I’m not going to be able to see the game!
GET THIS!!! I’m going to a wedding that night! GUESS WHOS WEDDING?
My friend (who started for Tech Football last year) is getting married on ATM night!! He must have known it wasn’t going to be aired… or we would have demanded a tv be put on the Church Altar!
I’m hoping he invited alot of the graduated players too. I’d love to meet a lot of them and grab pictures.
-If only crabtree wouldn’t have signed.. he could have showed up too. :(

He is seriously a great guy! His whole family are amazingly nice. They all came to my wedding in July… he actually drove the get-away car after the reception.

Here's another thing we may have to worry about.
SB Nation crashing because the game isn’t being televised and everybody and their dog will be on the open game day threads while listenting to the game online.
We should hit 1000 comments on the first half thread alone.

Yes, that is awesome!!
It will probably read TECH – sideways 8 Aggies – 0

If we don't have a hell of game, what are the odds of us dropping in the polls even though we win?

I think this is the ploy. I am hearing the “100” number everywhere, and someone at 12th man put a post up about it. So people get the stupid 100 number in their heads (it will NEVER happen) and then if we win by a couple of touchdowns, we drop in the polls? There are a million reasons that Tech will not score 100, not the least of which is that Leach, despite his reputation, does take his foot off the gas in the second half if we are up by a bunch.
The fact is, this could be a tough game if Tech lives up to its reputation of playing to the level of the competition. I would take 52-6, but it could be more like 31-6 if we start a third string QB.
As to people trolling at 12th man…
1. Beergut deserves what he gets.
2. I only saw one troll over there bashing after the game.
3. You can look at someone’s profile to see how much they’ve posted and where.
4. Just because someone doesn’t post over here incessantly doesn’t mean that they don’t read every day, aren’t fans, aren’t Tech alums, aren’t worthy to post, or don’t get the fact that Beergut deserves whatever he gets. He’s a clown, and has no credibility at all.

I don’t have any sympathy for him either, none whatsoever. It tickles me to see the participation on that site dwindling down to nearly nothing. With the huge fan base they have to draw from, it just shows that they don’t like him and his product either.
I just think about how it looks to the innocent atm fan over there (few as they may be). If they don’t check out other sites, they may have no idea of what a troll beergut is. So they end up with the impression that we are all a bunch of jerks – kinda like how we feel about the whorns when really there’s just 8-10 of them that are persistent asshats over here.
I don't know about you guys....
But I worry more about these tards coming to town more so than the aggie football team.
