Camping out already?!?!

I'm just as bummed as the next guy that the game isn't televised on TV Saturday. I think it would be a better option than several of the Big 12 matchups that got air time. But is it really worth camping out for?!?! I know it's fun to have an excuse to camp out outside the stadium and hang out with friends... but starting today may be a little overboard.

As per Chris Levels Twitter stream: Camping.

Also, he has this to say:

Fairly juicy rumor on RedRaiderSports.com about a wideout quitting the team. Trying to track it down now. If it's true it's not surprising.

Do we know how trust worthy he is? I haven't ever heard of him until this last week or so when someone else linked his twitter. Obviously I'm assuming that the tent picture isn't made up... but he seems to have a constant stream of updates about TTU football and I was wondering if it is worth checking in on regularly or a waste of time.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors.

He is legit

He is the publisher of redraidersports.com.

Second of all, why should anyone be complaining that our fans are excited for a a football game. At no point in time has anyone been “too good” for camping out. Penn state has fans camp out every game as does Duke basketball… we should be rooting for people to camp out for every game instead of questioning camping out for a big rivalry game (even though they don’t have a winning record)

Yep

He’s legit. Part of the Rivals.com family. And he appears to have access to Leach, the players and to practices. He calls in to a Houston sports radio show once a week and seems to have the lowdown on who’s doing what in practice and what kind of medical paraphanelia is being worn by who. He’s a good source of TTU info.

Why can't we get something like that in DFW

I’d love to get a weekly update.

Also, don’t look at it as if the kids camping are excited BECAUSE its ayunem, look at it as if they’re trying to get the best seats for a good view of the train wreck Saturday. If it’s anything in Lubbock like it is in Plano today, those kids are dedicated, hadn’t stop pouring since dawn here.

Honestly, it’s a good excuse to hang out, get a little buzz on and have fun. Who in their right mind would care if they did that?

by Tech92 on Oct 21, 2009 4:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Truth be told

I enjoy deer camp much more than the actual hunting.

by Plano Jeff on Oct 21, 2009 9:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Nice

Doesn’t get much better than hunting/fishing, camping, and 42… If we ever end up meeting up for a tailgate or watching party (if you guys are in the metroplex) I’ll bring by TTU dominoes :)

I could play 42 right now. Did you know that when you leave the Republic of Texas and enter foreign soil most people don’t know what 42 is?

I kid but still, they really don’t.

Sad but true

and its surprising how many kids here in Texas dont know how to play. I for one spent every day at lunch playing in the cafeteria.

I’m interested in the last sentence of his post…“If it’s true it’s not surprising.” Wonder what THAT is supposed to mean. Widespread WR discord on the team? One guy always in the pig pen?

My guess? Adam James. No reason why, just seems like he’s struggled. Though it’s very early in his career.

by Tech92 on Oct 21, 2009 2:19 PM CDT reply actions

That baffled me too… unless it is someone WAY down the depth chart that is a senior. I’m not too familiar with the scout team depth at WR.

I'm all for camping

But you have to admit it is a little overkill to be out there on Wednesday for a game that has failed to even sell out last I checked. I spent my fair share of hours in the student line outside the Jones, and love to see the current students stoked enough about our team to camp out. I was just pointing out that it is probably more of an excuse to chill with friends/camp out with this awesome weather/skip classes this early in the week.

The quitting Wideout

If id have a guess it’d be Rashad Hawk. Tons of potential but no focus

by Thundarr on Oct 21, 2009 3:32 PM CDT reply actions

Hawk

If I had to guess, it’d definitely be Rashad Hawk… loads of talent and speed but just seems content to stand on the sideline

by batmantt on Oct 21, 2009 4:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Evidently he's not content to do it anymore...

Maybe we’ve just got too much talent ahead of him…
I wish him the best in his track career…
He contributed pretty well last spring and I understand he’s going to stay with that…

I'm with you on this

Hawk has been dropping of the radar for a while now. Wasted opportunity.

I second the comments that this is fantastic if students are camping out and that anyone who discourages this behavior is crazy. I’d like to see people camping out for the opener every year.

And lets hope the guy quiting is someone who is not that good.

Clarify

I’m certainly not discouraging camping out… I love it. Just surprised they are already out there on Wednesday for such an ‘irrelevant’ opponent.

by jdeeTTU on Oct 21, 2009 10:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Ahh to be in college again and be able to just take 3 days to “camp out” with my friends and party all the time. Wouldn’t it be nice.

And they will remain irrelevant as long as we destroy them in the game.

by logan5555 on Oct 21, 2009 10:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Only problem I see with it

is the fact that, because of the construction on the east side, they are camping out in the raider alley area. Tech officials usually start setting that up on thursday. What are they going to do then?

by RdrPwr on Oct 21, 2009 11:41 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm guessing Hawk as well....

Not James he is in the middle of everything and has a role. Hawk was somewhat highly sought after but has made zero impact…lost in the WR shuffle. Wreck’Em Tech

Looks like those who said Rahsard Hawk were right on the money. Cousin tells me he has left the program (he had dinner with a coach’s family last night). No link to provide…sorry.

by Tech92 on Oct 22, 2009 2:14 PM CDT reply actions

Chris Level has a pay-story on the website right now that confirms this. Does anyone have access that could confirm Hawk? Sounds like Tech92 has a pretty reliable source.

Will this affect the receiving corps any? I can’t remember Hawk really doing anything memorable this year.

by pcrawttu on Oct 22, 2009 2:58 PM CDT reply actions

i could have sworn that hawk had a few catches in one of our high scoring games, but when i checked ESPN, they had nothing on him

It is Hawk

I can confirm that Hawk has left the program. I’m not an expert and don’t have connections in the program (at least not anymore) but I do have a half semester class with Hawk that started yesterday. I would have posted then but I didn’t realize that you had to wait 24 hours before posting after opening an account (and for some reason I didn’t have one…).

When he introduced himself to everyone he stated that he was playing football but he left the program to concentrate on track.

by TheScarletandTheBlack on Oct 22, 2009 4:39 PM CDT up reply actions

He lost ground

To torres and Austin z that weren’t around last year…..good luck in track.
